Apparently Grand Sport Speedway (http://www.grandsportspeedway.com/) is paved and open for business.

The first track event there will be the San Jacinto Corvette Club on June 23-24. http://www.sanjacintocorvetteclub.org/HitchcockJune07flyer.html

It's not too far from MSRH. It might be time for a field trip...

Some of us will remember this location as "The birthplace of Texas AI/CMC"!!!

StangBang!

I'll post those old photos this weekend.

Sweet... another Texas-South course.

I did a PCA autocross out there years ago.

If the the other two new tracks get operational, I'll have four tracks within an hour and a half and TWS not that much farther; no wonder I had to put a car together.

Now, if there was some elevation change...

For those who want to do a field trip to GSS from MSRH while you are there for the NASA event, I've attached a map. It's a bit less than 30 miles driving between the two...

Hope the racing surface is better than the last time Texas AI/CMC raced there! 8)

We had different rules for standing starts back then.

Some people couldn't conserve tires and wouldn't make it past T1...we had to change the format.

Minimum weight for F-bodies was 4000lbs at the time...made for much better competition. :D

In any case, I'm ready to go back.
Grand Sport Speedway is "Mustang Country"!

There is an open house at Grand Sport Speedway this Sunday (Sept. 30th). http://www.grandsportspeedway.com/

Parade laps on the track in your car. Hot lap rides around the track. From 9 am to 5 pm.

I'm going to try and make it down there if I can work it between my kid's baseball tournament games.

Anyone else???

My kid has a baseball game in Alvin at 12:00. I'll go straight from there so best guess for me is around 2:30.

Hope to see others there.

Jerry,
Sorry the let the cat out of the bag and I hope Eric didn't describe your car as an "adult-owned creampuff Sunday driver".

2:30 seems like a do-able goal for me too.
Hope to see others there.

He did say something about only being driven on Saturdays and Sundays and only twenty or forty minutes at a time.

Went down between rainstorms yesterday...

Track is fresh asphalt, curbs are in but they still need to do some backfilling. Track was fairly wide, layout seemed ok and seemed to have good flow counter clockwise after a handful of parade laps. Not sure about the track base - in the past there was a damp area affectionately known as the "swamp."

Brief conversations make it sound like their primary focus is the resident school and memberships. I heard $3500/yr (first two years paid up front) for 20 track days per year.

I have a friend in the San Jac covette club that is trying to organize a club event there so I'll have some more feedback after that.

I didn't go.
Mama wasn't feeling well so I kept the kiddos busy so she could relax.
(Watched the 12 Hours of NASCAR @ KC instead.)

If you or RP got pics it would be great!

If you or RP got pics it would be great!

Imagine a 60 year old, WWII blimb base airfield on native Texas coastal grassland... now imagine a 40ft wide ribbon of fresh black asphalt winding it way over the level ground... sorry no pictures, not that there was much to take pictures of unless you need more photos of C5 Corvettes with bolt in cages and Cobra kit cars.

The video at www.grandsportspeedway.com shows the track layout pretty well. The "classroom" is quite a walk from the track entrance and paddock. I think it's fair to call it a work in progress.

I would like to have pictures of the two old skool big block 'vette roadsters that Mongoose Motorsports had out, far left in this picture, even if they are replicars: http://www.mongoosems.com/images/100_0993.jpg
