View Full Version : Annual Dyno certs - any interest in renting a dyno for a day

I just spoke with Daniel at Simple Quick Racing in Benbrook.

He is willing to rent us the dyno for $50/hr for as long as we need it.

3 cars in 2 hours is possible if we don't bench race too much. If each person paid $50 for a dyno cert, then we would have plenty of cash to pay the tab at the end of the day.

Realize, though some may need more dyno time than others in order to shuffle restrictor plates.

The only caveat is that he prefers to do this on a weekday, rather than a weekend. Daniel said a Saturday is possible, but will depend upon participation.

I thought since we have several southerners headed this direction for the banquet, this might be an oppurtune time to increase head count.

Too much activity and mileage for one day for me.
(Plus...car won't be done in time.)

I get the impression you are more interested in go karts than getting the ranchero running again?!

I think everything is priority over getting the ranchero fixed. :P

Mitch,
I am going to be testing at Cresson on 12/28 and might try to get the car dyno'd on the way back through Benbrook. I will call and talk to Daniel to try and arrange a time?
Thanks,

In case anyone was wondering, the shop is closed the week of Christmas. Will re-open after the new year.

James, let me know and i can meet you up there if you want.
same goes for anyone in the DFW area that wants a 2nd pair of eyes for the dyno cert.

things to look out for is the type of correction standard. read the 2nd page of the dyno sheet very well. tires to 30lbs. be sure pulls start low in the RPM range - big deal for 4th gens. make sure pulls show HP and TQ both dropping off past peak's. i think 5K is the area for most all platforms in CMC.
warm the car up well before making any pulls. note the tepms each pull is required to be done at. get the altitude of the dyno not just the town. the dyno at Cresson is 600ft higher than the one at SQR in Benbrook.

get two copies of the dyno, one for you and one for the AI/CMC director file. same goes for the dyno tech sheet.

got there at 10 to see Jeff Burch finishing up. early bird and all that jazz.
Michaels car did well. he'll be faster this year...... i may have to use 3rd and 4th on him at TWS.
James' car did nice too. his dyno aint gonna make him faster, but that 21mm rear bar i delivered him will.

the guys over at RPM are pretty cool guys. many thanks to them for letting us crash the magazine photo shoot for a cam and header install.

i have the dyno sheets for James and Michaels, but somehow left w/ not getting one from Jeff (FYI Jeff). i know he printed one for me, i just didnt get it.

i was told that Houston had some good results as well.

Just out of curiosity and for completeness, what cam is in your two Cobra motored cars: actual Cobra spec or normal HO?

michaelmosty
02-04-2008, 12:02 PM
Mine is a cobra cam. I got it from a guy off dfwstangs and the only markings on it were a date (10/21/94) and he said it came out of his 95 Cobra. For all I know my camshaft might be out of a stock 5.0 and not a Cobra but I figured I'd see what happens.
I tried calling various Ford houses for this specific cam and was told that Ford no longer made the camshaft and when they last sold it she was $567.

I put it in midway through last year as I was under the impression that I would pick up torque from the change but instead I lost power. During the off-season I did the rest of the Cobra parts and got to where I am now.
