I was poking around and found this pretty cool video. It's a bunch of our west coast brethren trying not to get run over by an ASC mob.

Enjoy...

Mirrors are your friends.

(Nice job, AL, at the top of the hill!)

I thought it was AL too but if you look closer, the car number is 33.

Totally awesome. Makes me want a ZZ4 in my sled.

Don't ZZ4's only put out 400hp? That's like 340 at the wheels? Get a set of heads and a cam and come on over to AI! ;)

Now after watching the vid....those weren't ZZ4's!!! reminded me of an ALMS vid with prototypes and GT3's... looked frustrating.

Definitely not a ZZ4. They are 345 hp I think. I have one and if doesn't make anywhere near 400 hp and doesn't sound or run like that.
Good vid Boudy.

ASC run ZZ4's.
He's the west coast ASC champ.

When I raced there, they were GT America cars.

those things must not weight anything then! Are they similar to the Super Race Series cars that run with us in August 06'?

Think he was WAAAAY late at finding the middle peddle.
Too much rear bias.
There are stills of the car on a rollback in his Infineon gallery.

Yeah, I watched that several times myself and came to the same conclusion. Too much, too late on the whoa pedal. I think he saw that his line was going to t-bone the other guy and probably pulled slightly left to make the outside line and it just didn't work.

A few things.

First off, I love his camera. It is obvious it is on a little slower frame rate but it really helps the aspect of speed. I'd love to know his setup stuff for his cam. Ditto for the controls (fastforward/rewind) on the display as they are awesome and work perfect and easily.

Second, the missing-of-the-spinning-car at the beginning...WHOAH!

Third, I'll agree with the whole uber-late-brake-with-incorrect-bias but I think he threw in a dose of steering-wheel-not-straight-when-hammering-the-binders also. If you watch that section he is about in the middle when he needs to be over to the left and it KINDA (I'm guessing here) looks like he was easing left to get back online and really threw out the anchor and then bammo into and onto the wall.

Awesome find though....thanks for posting that. I love the sound of a real straight-cut box. Unf.

There's a big dip in the braking zone there that loads and then unloads the suspension. Looks like he got a little sally-whomper while gettin' busy with the binders.

Ouch!

Um, anyone think they would think twice before getting on track with that nucklehead?! Looked like he was on a bonzai run to win the race on the first lap on cold tires, completely boned the esses over driving the car and then looked like he moved inside to dive bomb those guys going into the hairpin...

Moron comes to mind!!!

Good camera though!

Yeah, what a moron. '04 & '05 consecutive ASC Championships and running limited '06 & '07 schedules preparing cars to move to NASCAR’s Grand National series. This guy must be some hack...

I thought he did well. I saw plenty of about-even-money moves, but nothing that I'd consider low-percentage. Like I said in my first post, I think the frame rate on his cam makes everything 'look' a little faster than it was in real life. I started my roadracing in an ASedan back before they were a national class so we ran with ITS/A/B/C cars and it looked about like the same kind of matchup.

Hard to argue with results also...

Those ASC cars were regulars in the AI/CMC group out west for a long time. That is also one of the few few times NASA has run the NASCAR configuration at Infineon!

ASC cars run the ZZ4 motors or a fairly equivalent Mopar or Ford. They also weigh 2700-2800lbs. The kicker is they run Goodyear slicks, so they have unbelievable grip...not to mention $800/weekend tire invoices.

I never liked running with those cars. As the videos show, the speed difference was pretty high and it always ended up being a case of avoiding them instead of just being passed. :?

To be honest, I thought this class would be HUGE in places like Tx with all the roundy round cars out there available for cheap...

Are those cars the same and the GT America series? When I used to live on the left coast, GTA was just getting started in the SanFran region SCCA. Seemed like a good way to go racing with a pretty serious tube frame car. They were lapping a few seconds slower than a full on GT-1 car as I remember.

That series never seemed to spread out to other regions...

Texas is developing their GTA series. Look for more of them racing with us next year. Most of them are former ASA Touring Series cars with 450-500 hp LS1s with Jerico transmissions.

I am going to have SO much fun when a fox stang beats Glenn...we can all sit around and rub it in that he just got beat by a 78' Fairmont! Even better is if someone finally built the REAL fairmont and beat him!!! IF that ever did happen, I think Glenn would even laugh at himself!!!!
