View Full Version : Houston Dyno Day and Annual Inspections (THIS WEEKEND!!!)

Looking at the calendar it looks as though THIS Saturday is the only time prior to Round 1 that we'll be able to pull together a Dyno Day and annual tech inspection.

So...post here if you're interested. I'll nail down a location on the north side of Houston for Saturday morning between 9 to noon. Top 3 dyno location candidates right now are 1) HPE 2) Houston Performance 3) New shop in The Woodlands

#3 is a prime candidate if it's only Al, Rob & I!!!

Let's pull it together. Who's in for dyno, annual and lunch!?!?!?!

if someone in the DFW area needs or wants a series director present for the annual dyno cert, let me know. as Todd said, there are only 2 weekends left to get this done prior to the season opener in Houston.

I'm in. Todd, are you going to call around to find shop availability?

of course you pick a weekend that I am going out of town... I would say I am in at any location. Maybe I can get my car there without me being there.

Todd, you take that car to the body shop yet???

Rob...you call your shop and I'll call the other two.
Let's talk this afternoon and pick the best.

What's the normal fee - 3 pulls for $50?

Rob Liebbe

`I just talked with Tony at Village Automotive on Kuykendal Rd. He said he could accomodate us this Saturday for $50 for three pulls. The only problem would be parking space as he has a very small paved lot with a dirt (mud this week) lot next door. But as far as the dyno goes he can take us in and is open from 8 to 3. I vote for before lunch as I have a soccer coaches meeting in the afternoon.

The new location of Horsepower Engineering is at 1960 and Perry and has plenty o' parkin'.

Also, I found this handy dynojet location search.

Despite minimal trailer parking, Rob's dyno location is most accomodating and will be our site!!!

DATE: Saturday, 1/26
WHEN: 9AM to Noon
WHERE: Village Auto on Kuykendahl on the way into The Woodlands.

Village Automotive
26211A Kuykendahl Rd
Tomball Woodlands, TX 77375
Telephone: 281-516-7628
Email:VILLAGEAUTOMOTIVE@ATT.NET

Plenty of room for racecars, but trucks & trailers may need to go down the road a bit. We'll make it work. This is a new shop and a new dyno for us.

From the intersection of 2920 and Kuykendahl, go north towards the Woodlands. You will cross a set of railroad tracks and continue north. You will see a red/yellow/orange sign for Savannah's Steakhouse on your right after about 2 miles. Village Automotive will be on the left about 1/4 mile past the Savannah's sign. There is virtually no parking at Village Automotive so watch for other cars and trailers parked just off the road nearby.

My cell is 281-413-1948

We are scheduled to start at 9 am.

This is a new shop, very clean and organized. The owner used to have a couple of Goodyear retail stores and got tired of "changing cv joints on Dodge Caravans" and started a shop where he could do more interesting work. Last time I was in there he had a Model T, a 66 Mustang Fastback, a 911 of some sort, and a 4th Gen Camaro build up of 600 hp. If I remember correctly the owner used to race motorcycles at TWS.

Todd, how about a list of items required to bring to the dyno/annual inspection?

I know there is a dynojet dyno off of 249 and 1960 at a placed called Bavarion hyper speed. He has a clean shop, but it has no room for trailer parking... he dynoed my car the first time when it blew out the clutch...

Al Fernandez

the car, dyno sheet, gauge to check tire pressure (and air to fill them up!), a fuel pressure gauge.

for 302s and 305s a timing light

for 4th gens a flat screwdriver a 10mm socket and a stack of restrictor plates

...thats about it :)

Todd Covini

...and for annual inspection, present yourself and your car as "race ready". So all your safety gear, balaclava if applicable, etc. Prove you have all the stuff it takes to go racing!

Anything missing will be logged in your logbook and will need to be verified at Round 1. So bring your logbook too.

you H-town guys have an altitude for that shop?

Todd Covini
01-24-2008, 10:46 PM
It's in the mountainous region of Houston.
We're going to come down from the mountain with our low HP dyno sheets and kick everybody's butt!!! WooHoo!!!

(I don't know...but I think everything in Houston is at or below sea level.)

Google Earth shows it as 30deg8min25.45sec N and 95deg33min4.37sec W at an elevation of 163 ft (approximately).

Todd needs to get back his sea legs - his sea level referenceometer is a bit off. :)

Rob,
Let's not just throw a ballpark altitude # out there now.
Is this an in-ground Dynojet or elevated dyno?

He didn't ask about the dyno, just the shop. 8)

But I do believe it is the slightly elevated type.

so this is where you guys ended up going?
I may have to stop at a place the 8th on the way to MSR.
were the numbers repeatable to prevous pulls w/ the same setup?

Todd Covini

I was happy with the readings.
They were consistent with what I've made before, although I was hoping for more given the tuneup work I had done.

From what I saw of Liebbe & Fernandez's #'s, they seemed very consistent with their 2007 dyno decal #'s.

Their shop may be a bit off the beaten path of I-45, but worth the trip.
You could try www.horsepowerengineering.com as their shop is equally away from I-45, but on major freeways (and they are an F-body shop).

If you are looking convience on the way in, Strictly Performance (http://strictlypro.com/) is on the I-45 frontage road in Houston. Easy access to the track from there. They have two Dynojets. Might want to give them a call.
