Car is ready and on trailer attached to motorhome. All I have left to do is get two spare tires mounted to my new wheels, install new custom wiper cowl, and throw the tools in. Car looks great with the new paint job and new wheels. Boudy is going to help me install the graphics Friday. The car will at least look fast.

Since last season I have ripped out all the stock wiring, installed painless harness, removed both front windows and crank assemblies, removed wiper motor and arms, changed wheels, and repainted CMC17. It is no longer "Eric's car" it's Team Jordan's car.

more details please. this sounds intresting.

Lets just say it helps to have a laser, punch press, and press brakes at your disposal. I was thinking about Team Jordan cut out in script. I've also thought about cutting holes from the engine compartment into the wiper arm area and putting louvers in the wiper cowl to help get hot air out from under the hood. If it's not required I will do something cool just for looks. Something out of polished stainess or anodized aluinum.

Not to rain too much on your parade, but if doesn't say you can do it, you can't...

This has been brought up before. Mine is "custom." I'm not in CMC...

Your right Richard. I'll bring the old broken plastic one if it becomes a big deal. One thing though.....I see lots of stuff on CMC cars it does not say you can have but since they have nothing to do with performance nothing is done about it.

two things.
1) Richard is right. i dont think it would be legal. lets just take a look at it foirst.
2) point those things out to the car owner and ask them about it. i would also like you to point this type of stuff out to me. this could be a simple oversite by the car owner, the directors, or you. shoot me a list w/ your observations.

CMC is always more strict than AI, on purpose. Always always always the best plan before modifying your CMC car is to get a hold of one of your CMC officials and ask. Get their opinion. If it sounds like its approaching a grey area, submit your proposal in writing to a Natl. Director and ask for a formal ruling. That is the correct process.

Jerry, not saying whatever you did is not considered legal, just saying what the risk-free process is.

Jerry - congratulations on getting the Team Jordan soul into the car.

If it sounds like its approaching a grey area, submit your proposal in writing to a Natl. Director and ask for a formal ruling. That is the correct process.

Is there a running list of formal rulings or do they get codified into the ruleset?

What about seemingly innocuous things like ducting in front of the radiator? I see it on all the cars, soon to be mine included, but don't see it in the rules.

Al and Glenn,

I did not really think about all this. I have a broken wiper cowl and thought I would make a new one out of sheet metal with my team name cutout in script instead of the $85.00 the dealer wanted for a new plastic one. I was not trying to circumnavigate the rules. Still not sure how a wiper cowl would make a difference. I guess I could make it with a big wing on it for extra downforce.......LOL Since I have not made one yet I guess it's a moot point.

How about stupid stuff like a helmet hook? I could have missed it in the CCR but even if it's not there I could care less if everyone uses one but if it's not there then we go back to the "if it does not say you can then you can't" deal. I put a wiper cowl in the same boat as a helmet hook so you can see why I did not think it was a big deal.

Dave - anything that is submitted to Natl. that is discussed among the entire team that is thought to probably justify changing the wording of the rules (or its just new to us!) gets added to the tech bulletin in the rules section of the national forum. Anything in there then gets added to the list of items to discuss at year end when we do a rules revision.

Jerry - never implied otherwise. Believe me, the vast majority of times someone is out of compliance they never intended to be.

As to how you could turn a cowl into a competitive advantage...well, buy Richard a beer Sat night and I'm sure he'll give you a quick run down 8)

Jerry, its not so much you made one from steel, its that the next guy will make one out of aluminum, then the next guy will go carbon, so on and so on. if your winning w/ a carbon cowl, the slower guys think they need one to win.

as for simple things like helmet hooks...... back in 2005 i told Todd and Adam i was going to protest them for putting fuel in the cars. no place inthe CMC rule set does it say you can put fuel in the tank.

i think there is some verbage in the CMC rules that covers radiator ducting. i'll look for it.

Mine was going to be made from titanium right off the bad so they could not one-up me.

Point taken.

I got a kick out of that one too! Probably one of the reasons I could never run CMC....the rules are just too frustrating for me.

I like that attitude Jerry. I don't see a big deal about titanium as there will be some in my car.

The rules are not so bad if you always think original show room STOCK....and then see if the rules allow for anything but stock.

I still think the rules could be cleaned up a bit and force a few things back to show room stock, but for the most part they work.

Cool and thanks.

I thought I read in the rules that you had to notify an official of a protestable offense as soon as you were aware of it; i.e. you couldn't sandbag and let a guy go on track with the purpose of protesting afterword. If it's in the other guys rules and not NASA's, maybe we ought to think about it. That would keep someone clever from protesting fueling the car unless they were going to "Fred Flintstone" their own car.

I still think the rules could be cleaned up a bit and force a few things back to show room stock, but for the most part they work. They do work most of time and fuel may be considered a given and a helmet hook, a box to put the legal radio in, a cool suit or helmet blower, a violation.

Whenever possible, the rules should be as unambiguous as possible.

James, you can probably use Michael's Keystone to wash the truck. I hear it makes for an above average bug/tar remover.

Gotta get fuel/drinks/ice, hitch up the trailer and head out. I cant wait guys. :D

JP's is a Race time.
Seems like JP and AF have a qual lap in Oct '07 that was in the low 48's.

Anyone have an OBD2 Scanner that they will have at the track? As I was loading the car the service eng soon light came on though it maybe because the restrictor is still in there. Though I would like to know for sure as well as see if the code is caused by the restrictor.

Still need to pick up some Bud Light as I don't think Keystone or home brew is really Potable Beer.

GlennCMC70

my time is not a qual time. we dont count qual laps as track records.
mine was R1 Round 1.

1 11 Michael Mosty 9 20:06.312 1:48.497 6 79.634 -
2 70 Glen Landrum 9 20:28.496 22.184 1:48.239 7 79.823 -
3 95 Morgan Dawdy 9 20:34.098 27.786 1:51.105 2 77.764 -
4 28 James Proctor 7 17:15.353 2 Laps 1:51.517 4 77.477 -
5 2 Taco Nandez 6 20:16.851 3 Laps 1:49.722 2 78.744

this is sunday qual from Round 6. the new track layout record was set in R3 and i dont have the paperwork fromit and there is no info on my laps. i did confirm it the day after the race. not sure what happened w/ the race results. anyways - JP has it for now. i expect it to fall.

1 5 Al Fernandez 1:48.809 6 79.405 6 -
2 28 James Proctor 1:48.982 5 79.279 0.173 0.173 6 -
3 70 Glen Landrum 1:49.570 2 78.854 0.761 0.588

Going by that, the new config is just a tick slower huh?
Should be good air and not enough heat in the track.
Dunno?
Times always seem to go down as track heat goes up.
These tires like heat.
