AFTER DARK at Texas Motor Speedway 2.4 mile "ROVAL" (road race & oval course together).

YES, Texas MOTOR Speedway (Fort Worth)

NIGHT TIME High Performance Driving Event at Texas Motor Speedway.
Saturday Night, August 12, 06 on track 6:00 PM till 12:00 AM.

Another history making night of high performance driving.

Sign up on-line NOW to be part of the After Dark Track Action only The DriversEdge can provide. Note that all cars need working headlights and taillights, and this event is only open to drivers who are solo qualified with DriversEdge (which means you have to have run with them at least once and be signed off to run solo - there are DriversEdge events in June at TWS and July at MSR-C before the night event, so there is time if you haven't run with them before).

I would really like to do this event. I missed it last time because of the dirt racing I was involved in.

Now, I have officially retired the street car and the CMC car won't be built in time and doesn't have head lights anyway. I guess I won't ever get to do it.

I've driven the infield at night and with headlights and supplemental light from portable systems, it's a little weird ...

Rent CMC #8, reinstall the headlights, and go have fun.

there is a verbal agreement w/ regards to #8 that it is spoken for and no longer for sale. look for it @ MSR-H.

Maybe NASA should outlaw the 350. Go with a 305 like A-sedan used to do or still does?

Oooh, cool novel idea, a 4th gen with a 305/T5 at 3150 lbs.
Yea baby!
Count my vote.

complain all you want, but look @ what platforms hold the Texas track records. look @ what platform holds ALL Texas CMC Champ titles.
i keep hearing all this 350, this and 350, that. i offered to go 305 TBI w/ a T-5 @ 3150 when i was building the car. got a big no go on that.

i know you guys are busting my balls, but there is no c.i. advantage.
where does the 302/305 make peak TQ?

Considering I came to the table with less than 300 cubes....I think the displacment issue is as glenn put it...non issue. Usable RPM range is another story!

What's the easiest/best way to tell a 305 from a 350? Is it hard to tell by looking at the motor or are there things that give it away?

The differences between and 305 and SBC 350 shortblock are basically seen with a micrometer.

Just like a 289/302, 283/305/350/400 ... the parts interchange to a large degree.

In terms of CMC legal motors, a 305 has what appears to be a distributor in the transmission and the LT1 350 has the distributor behind the water pump.

also, the intake setups are dramatically different ....

Thanks, Mitch!!

I was talking to a guy about the old mid 80's IROC-Z's. I had an 86 IROC w/TPI 305, but sold it a year later. He was telling that they came out with a 350TPI in later IROC's (88/89?) and sent me a picture. I couldn't tell the difference between the two. I thought the intake would be wider or larger for some reason. No?

No basically the only difference is the bore and the crankshaft or stroke.

This site sort of shows the differences between the different cube Chevy engines.

Cool! Thx for the info. So, basically if I was in the market and someone told me that there is a 350TPI sitting in the engine bay, I wouldn't be able to tell if he was pulling one over one me and it was actually a 305TPI?

I'm sure there are subtle differences, but I don't know them.

From the factory - the 350 TPI never came with a manual transmission or t-tops.

Ah!!! Thx! See.. I don't know much about the L98's, LXYZ..etc. :D

So, if someone (street smack) says they have a 350TPI with a 5spd then they would have had to install the L98 in a 305 5spd car at some point? Is that possible?

GlennCMC70
05-03-2006, 11:46 AM
thats it eric, no 350TPI cars built w/ the T5, all autos. if it has those two together it was done by an owner. also, all 350's and 305's will have a "350" or "305" cast into the block just behind the driverside head where the belhousing meets the block. all you gotta do it get your head back there and read it.

also, know that there were no 305 4th gens made, and no carbed 4th gens. all must have fuel injected 350's. and the 305 TPI motors are known for there TQ. they were a very good motor for mid-early 90's.

Mitch,
From your own prophecy, we are now entering "Week 2" after the event...please let the inter-race-evolution transpire.

PS- While Glenn & Matt "sound" alike on the internet, Eric is plotting and plopping gingerly about, strangely with the same effect. :D

The webmasters have pasted my name all over this forum as "the moderator" however have not given me any control to change or modify anything.

The men behind the curtains are CL and JB...If things are going well...see them. If things are going poorly, I'm the moderator. hahahaha
