For Trade - one perfectly good, never raced Firebird dash pad. Complete and in "good" shape, only 2 large pieces.

Need one for the #39 Camaro. Don't want to stay afoul of the rules, well this time anyway, any longer than necessary.

no love?

I guess I'll break the TransAm one into smaller pieces and tape it down.

hey, do you still have this? We actually do need a TransAm dash pad for ours. Got a new dash, but the old pad is a bit torn up. I don't have a camaro one to trade :(

will you accept his DQ for the logbook entry he got from the last event if he shows up to MSR-C w/ the same violation?

Yep, Glenn's good...

It's a 94; I was "smart" enough to grab the dash cover out of a TA I got some generic parts off.

Rules are rational enough it's just one of those crappy pieces that's stoopid expensive for what we use it for.

I just haven't taken the time to try to find one outside this group.

Still lookin...

Now I gotta go look at the logbook - or just run at the back.

What if I hold the dash pieces together with glued on green shaggy bathroom rugs?

In the past i've asked to allow this part to be excluded from the required part of the dash. I think the Fords usually dont have this. (could be wrong). I'll allow you to miss MSR-H while I work my end w/ this again.

Stand by.

quit sittin' around playin' with your pud...

1.) get it out of the car
2.) Call me @ 281-414-1738 (yes Glenn, the number is right, I called it)
3.) I'll come pick it up
4.) I will have my custom car trim man rebuild it and stretch new vinyl over it.
5.) I'll deliver it back to you
6.) Merry Christmas...

All you have to do is #1 and #2 and I'll take care of the rest... Save Glenn having to worry about a little trivial thing like this and DO IT!!

Yes.
And my email sent to the directors over this issue.

The CMC Rule States:

7.8.7 The OEM stock dashboard must remain intact except to accommodate the installation of the roll cage.

7.8.8 Other than the stock dash, all other interior parts and panels, including all passenger seats may be removed. Undercoating may be removed. Floor mats, spare tire, tools, jacks, etc. must be removed. There must be no remaining sharp edges that could come in contact with the driver. Other than to provide for the installation of required safety equipment or other authorized modifications, no other driver/passenger compartment alterations or gutting is permitted.

My first question applies to 7.8.8. The 4th gen F-bodies come from the factory w/ a plastic interior panel that resides between the base of the windshield and the OEM dash. Does this part fall under the catagory of OEM Dash, or Interior Panel? I've always looked at it as the later (Interior Panel) and felt we should not be REQUIRED to have it. Prior to being a Director I asked to be allowed to remove it based on safety, cost, and the way the rule is written, it leads one to think its allowed to be removed. At the time I wrote it off as a possible "difference in interpretation", and moved on. I have since seen inconsistent application of this part of the rules to the dash as a whole.

Safety - This item is very fragel when new. It is dificult to install and keep in one piece, especially when installing it between the front downbars of the cage. I've broken more of these than I care to admit. Once these things have been exposed to sun for a couple of years, they become extreamly brittle. Often breaking into multiple pieces when reinstalling. Often the only option the owner has is to replace it, or install it as is - broken. I often worry about my own panel breaking into multiple pieces and injuring me in a possible rollover situation. I like having it in place for the reason of appearance, but really dont want to place that above safety. This alone should be cause enough to be allowed to remove it based on the current rule - its an interior panel.

Cost - I have provided a few links to allow you to asses the cost of this item. If a driver feels his only option is to replace a broken or missing upper dash panel, they are facing a cost of $200 - $300 dollars. See the below links. The 2nd of which has a picute of the part in question (copy and paiste).

http://www.ecklerscamaro.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=777230&dept%5Fid=1648

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=214858&chapter=&Sectionids=0,2610&groupid=2610&subgroupid=9375&componentid=0&make=6&model=Camaro&year=1995&graphicID=CD93340&callout=3&catalogid=2&displayCatalogid=0

And lastly, is there an equivelant part on the other eligable platforms that has been allowed to be removed based on the current written rule?

I would like a quick ruling on this as i have a guy on hold who has had a logbook entry made (by me) to have one in place by the start of the 2010 event.

The 2nd part of my email is based around the glove box doors and the holes left from the removeal of Ford Airbags (see link). The rule:

7.8.7 The OEM stock dashboard must remain intact except to accommodate the installation of the roll cage.

Last I looked, we were not running cage bars thru the glovebox door area.

Can we mandate that guys must reinstall the glove box and cover the hole left by the airbag removeal? This looks far more ugly than the missing upper dash panel on a 4th gen.

Feedback please!

I had to replace the same panel in my 95 T/A 4 years ago and got it for $123 from Showcase Chevrolet. This could be a good option if they hadn't gone out of business.

Let me know if I can be of any more help. :)
