WSC does NOT equal WSR.

WSC = full on badass cars sporting gobs of power, bigazz tires and factory support. See 'Ferrari 333SP'. See 'Buick Spice'.

WSR = the 'spec' car that died after the shelby can-am died. It is a semi-monocoque open sports racer but scaled down and about the size of a Sports2000 (the racing class, not the honduh product) such as a Lola, Tiga, etc. They had toyota MR2 power and uprights and brakes IIRC and they sold a few dozen of them but it didnt catch on. I ran the Dallas Grand Prix when they came to town since their field was light and they invited the scca S2000s to come play. At every round they did that, an S2 won overall. Heh.

Google 'toyota worlds sports racer' and you'll see images and specs.

Yeah, but the point would be a 40 car field of cross regional participants, all of which have never seen this direction would not be a good formula. Considering how much contact we had last year (mostly minor), it might not be such a good idea?

Well crap, if you can only trust your guys on tracks they know then where is the fun in that?

I think (and would hope!) that everyone can be trusted to learn the track first, race hard second. Hallet has a lot of runoff area....so maybe ya'll will be doing some agricultural racing too.

Heh...seriously, the track in either direction is pretty quick to learn and hopefully folks that are new to that orientation take full advantage of practices and get up to speed quick.

Should be interesting...and hopefully I can make it for that event.

K thx.
I miss MD!
jb

We just exchanged PMs.

His car is off the frame shop but still needs a lot of work.

I offered up a seat in Jeff/Jerry/David's rig for him to at least ride up and spend the weekend with us. Who knows ...

I told him he needs to show his face occasionally.

I spoke with him this eve.
He just needed a break from us.
He's making more progress at this point that that other car that had a mishap at the same track
If all the central Texans got together for a jam session at MD's he might could make it.
Mostly re-assemble with some fab stuff.

Michael,

Very limited vacation time this year due to rolling layoffs. We'll be coming out Friday so no practice. Just hoping Glenn will volunteer to lead us around for a few laps.

Now we just have to put a transmission and clutch in my car and fix Bryan's sick motor in the next three weeks!

Yes, the car in a box you saw a couple months ago ...

I'm going to pile on here. I'd like to go. I'm sticking my thumb out for a ride. Anyone have a spare seat open?

Anyone with some extra space in a trailer to crash? I'm not picky.

Can provide expert setup and tuning assistance along with rule stretching consultation. :-) Will work for beer...

Richard,

If you can drive up to Austin, I should have a seat open. I can use all the help I can get!

As far as a place to sleep, no help at all as I am looking for a place to sleep other than the back of my pickup.

still on the fence... wouldn't do me much good to be chasing you without a motor...

Interested in renting an unproven, never been on the track in CMC trim 4th gen for the weekend?

Yes, the car in a box you saw a couple months ago ...

You would have to tow it, would need your seat belts and it would have to be a fun run as it has no dyno sheet.

But if all the stars align just right, it could be ready and a sweet deal could be reached.

Gunter's car will be at hallett come he'll or highwater. He is even going to be towing it himself....

How much for the rental?

Matt, I'm not so worried when you're in control... what I do worry about is all the problems that are possible between now and 8 days from now...

Whatever you do, please don't get the wiring harness in between the motor and transmission, and then proceed to torque down the transmission, then try to figure out why your O2 sensors don't work, the speedo is screwed, fuses are blowing, and the car won't rev....
Who's responsibility was that anyway?

I hope to make the festivities....

Just a little reminder.
One of the owners of NASA is supposedly attending.
The last time (TWS '05) he attended he was on safety patrol during the weekend.
A fine were handed out for not having nomex socks.
I was asked to add rollbar padding.
Just be aware and look your stuff over.

I had it at the TWS event. It's a 35' Fleetwood Bounder. Sleeps 6 (3 dudes). I easily tow the 20' open trailer. The guy I bought it from was towing a 24' enclosed.

OK, to get a little more hype going for this event, I thought I'd post up a classic race from the first time NASA raced at Hallet back in '04.

In this video, there are five AI cars visible (more in the race that are not seen), three champions, four different race leaders, lots of side by side action but no bumping, a championship secured, and a question on who won the race. Oh, and one broken windshield after the checker... All good stuff that I miss a bunch.

Right click and save...

Hope you enjoy.

The short: Car has issues and I was wondering if I could run an external fuel pump (wik stock tank) just for Hallet and still get points?

The long: TWS during the last race, the car would momentarily cut out for 1/2 second. Got worse near the end of the race. During the cool down lap it was barely running and ending up dying completely after T10. Towed in, pushed car onto trailer, get home, rolled it back into the garage. The next weekend, go to find the problem, car starts, runs 10 minutes no issues. Repeat the following weekend. Same results.

Took car to a shop last week, get it back today (running) drove onto trailer, get home, now it won't run again. Ign on, start, runs for a second or two then dies. Crank again and nothing. Sounds like what Nicks did when they sold him a TBI fuel pump instead of the TPI one. So I'm leaning towards the fuel pump is out/going out. To swap it out is a royal pain in the ass (not to mention the other items I've procrastinated that I was planning on finishing up this weekend).

*If* the f/p is the problem, would it be possible to use an external one (I have the one we took out of Nicks car) just for the Hallet weekend (or should I have just kept my mouth shut and used it if I had to)?

Something has to be wrong for you to have numbers that low if you dont have a restrictor in it.

My car originally put out bad numbers, but after I changed the original 150k valve springs it was much better.

Dual 34 plate; seemed like a reasonable place to start and was in for Houston and Cresson.

Shop was late opening, but Ross came by... dyno had a car on it (650hp Kenne Bell blown Mustang)... Had to help hang some sheetrock... Date day with the wife... flat ran out of time to swap plates. If you guys feel generous I can put a bigger one in.

Can't disagree about springs, need to change plug wires also and will probably do so before TWS.

Car is a '94 converted from auto, not sure of vintage of T56. Trade you the 4L60E for an M29?

Also swapped on the B&M shifter and new BlaineFab shift knob... maybe even a couple more surprises. No, I don't have an RA1 inventory like J.K.

Rookie needs excuses - low dyno numbers provide one.

GlennCMC70

for some reason i was thinking you were CMC-2.

your TQ is right where mine was in 2005-6 w/ a OEM junkyard motor. once rebuilt, the TQ jumped up. depending on the dyno, i've had to run a big as a 37mm twin. you can up the plate if you want, but you will have to be legal post Hallett to to keep pionts. Hallett is NOT a HP track. run what you have. spend some time on the dyno prior to TWS w/ new springs.

Yes, especially the first run. Shop guys were thinking plugs since the next two were better and the car has been sitting since Feb. You thinking valve float? And I have a copy for the master file.

I couldn't "hear" it during the pulls but the machine tells all. Picked the 34 because the forum research told me it would be safe. Not a hp track? Hmmm.....

p.s. - no more muffler either.

p.s.s. - yes, muffler off for the pulls.

Ok, i really lol'd

I'm ready (for the most part, who needs gauges anyways? It'll give me something to do Friday evening)

Discovered the cars issue... bad #$%@ing VATS ground. FYI, if the vats doesn't get the correct feel good fuzzy, it starts a 2-4 minute timer that won't start the car even if everything is corrected and perfect. AND any attempt to start it again resets the timer! Yay for service manuals.

I'm planning on leaving Houston Thrusday morning, shooting for before 10a. Still undecided on the route, either thru Waco to 35W or 45 to 75/69. I just hate paying $12 in tolls just to get out of Houston the latter way.

I have to travel to San Antonio on Thursday. So, I will leave my house near the Woodlands at 7 am Friday morning. Route will be I-45, to Dallas and then 75 to OK, 69, Indian Nation, Tulsa route. The towns give me a break from the RV driving task. Should be going through Dallas about noon if anyone wants to join up. I will likely stop for fuel north of McKinney/Mellisa/Anna. Not sure about the return yet, may leave the track and drive part way. Some of this will depend on my co-pilot.
