BTW...whoever arrives first needs to carve out a big area for the Texas Crew. I have some cones but I like the idea of circling the trailers and tow vehicles and having a nice paddock area for about 5 or 6 cars....

I think you guys did something similar in 2007?

As much as I despise all the social networking sites, for our racers, I signed up for twitter so you can all get up to the minute info from the track.

Go to www.twitter.com/shrackracing for near instantaneous updates.

My flight for SLC leaves @ 11:15am PT, stop over in LAS, landing @ 4:10pm MT.

Hey Guys and Gals, Jeff is in charge of the 3 car updates... But I thought I would take a sec to give you my report...

5 sessions today... faster each time out.. happy with the car and crew chief...

quote of the day: "I respect you as a person and your a realy nice guy and all that, BUT... I didn't come all this way to f@ck around"

what ever happened to "cinch it up"?

I'm not as scared as I thought I would be. My skills are not what I would like and may not be Championship material but I'm not giving up without a fight,

Quick update for me.

After chasing a serious brake fade problem in early session, current ai times are dean martin at 2:09.x. Corey webber. 2:11.3 and me at 2:11.9. Deans time is very suspect as he has been pulling farmers st2 vette in the straights with 305hp. I have been running on 5 year old rains with the heavy wheels. Good stuff goes on today. So far a good recovery from this am. Track is badass!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any way to get some grid/pit shots with the car(s) rolling by a stationary camera. The close side shots as the cars motor by either to grid or out to track.

More driver footage (candid shots!).. pweeze.

I should have sent my camera along to have some shots of it on the ground with the cars going over it and then reversing the shot to get the exit.

Hind sight fail on my part.....

Huh? How are they going to work that???

Sounds pretty convenient to me. Was he still running strong at the checker? Live timing was messed up so it's hard to tell what was going on. His lap chart looks like he was doing fine right up until the end although it looks like he was passed on the last lap.

I'm pretty sure the last time we had a car that needed a dyno and couldn't because of a mechanical we didn't count his finishes and didn't count his lap record...

Anyway, that's seven more racing laps than Lindsey made the last time he had that car at Nationals...

Martin dyno'd 20 hp over = DQ'd

well, it has been pointed out to our directors and JWL that Lindsey was passing/beating a car already deamed illegal...

Personally, I don't see $100k dollars finding me 2 full seconds....but hey, they are pro's and I am just a shmoe.

I will be giving it all I got but it's basically a race for 3rd on sunday.....not much I can do about it as I am pretty much on the ragged edge......and the car is running and handling far better than it ever has. so much so, I have taken the brakes to another level with entry speed. As david said, it will likely all play out in the end.

Things don't add up but getting the horse to drink the water once you toss him in the lake is another story.

well, it has been pointed out to our directors and JWL that Lindsey was passing/beating a car already deamed illegal...

From a technical standpoint, that's not supposed to matter and it shouldn't matter to the directors. Just because you have an illegal car doesn't mean you will be fast and just because you are fast doesn't mean you are illegal.

What is relevant is that a car was requested at the dyno and he failed to run and prove that he had a legal car. I was sure the steps from there were pretty straightforward. Apparently I was wrong...

You would think that not showing up for a dyno would be the equivalent of a DQ.

Very interesting. I hope to see more testing of the car once a repair has been made.

It's good the engine came apart after the first qualifying race. It would be quite unfortunate if something further happened to the engine after the championship race. (Spinning the engine to 10K rpm after crossing the checkers would be one way to make it hard to verify numbers.)

We are all watching this issue and are anxious for more info and/or the fallout of the Lindsey dyno run. Did he dyno before the event? Is he fixing the car and then going to the dyno? Is someone watching his car while he fixes it? Is it quarantined? Are the rules bineg followed and not bent?

To get a stock ls1 down to 260 requires exh manifolds-does he have header? Ls1 intake not ls6 and about a 48 mm restrictor plate.

Race today: Tommy was in 3rd, Matt was in 4th, Matt took the White flag and proceeded to pull a "Donovan" (Mid-Ohio 07) and drove straight off T1 with the brake pedal to the floor!!!

Front needs lots of TLC and repairs, he has the parts and plenty of time till Sundays race. Oh, and the in-car video is scary! I got a little sick to my stomach watching it... it was a little to similar.

He got shit ass lucky though... and finished 6th due to the AIX leader was two AI cars behind him, so he only lost two positions.

JP-That is 260 hp for an AI car running an LS1 and ran a 2:06.

Schotz has run a few seconds quicker than any other CMC/2 car. Would love to see a chart of his dyno. As I stated when I saw the CMC2 numbers for a third gen it would be a class killer allowing that much torque.

Al Fernandez
09-12-2009, 10:12 AM
Torque or not, Schotz is losing aroun eight mph on the straight to Steel and Browm. His lap times are all him , cause he is way down on linear accel.

Lindsey doesn't accel any faster than Martin or MFW. Suspect all you want, but in a straight line on the track he is not any quicker.

Great shots there David!
Having a Media All Access Pass, I can get very close to the track... some places on the back section I am about 35' from the track, maybe closer... I was shooting Friday from the pit lane wall, WOW!

I have photos from Thursdays Races, I shot from the flag stand the entire race, those shots are awesome! I will post them up later, either today or tomorrow if I can.

Lindsey as a color announcer:

Brown with a "blowing motor"? C'Mon .... when it smokes like that its a rear diff seal.

OK so its a Factory Five sponsored event. Show a freaking race ... not the leader turning laps.

LOL - Todd slept with Lindsey's ECM?! Under the pillow Todd or under the mattress?

Glad to hear you guys are keeping things under a watchful eye :)

Yep - Lindsey's ECM stayed in the motorhome Saturday night. They offered it to Todd, and he took them up on their offer. He returned it to them around 7:30am Sunday.

FWIW, Al, Todd and I spent about ~45 or so minutes inspecting PL's Mustang in his garage. Funny thing, too....when we got there, not a soul was around. Within ~10min, his crew chief, crew members, and PL showed up - all very friendly, showing/explaining various aspects of his hooptie. We continued to inspect (both Todd and Al spent time on their backs, under the car while I was checking out the inside and engine compartment). Within another ~20min, the garage had another 10 spectators watching what was going on.

It was unfortunate Lindsey dropped so far back during the AI race, but big kudos to MFW for his podium finish.

I dunno about anyone else, but we had a great time. It was a great weekend of racing.

If you can, check out the Spec944 race. We watched the entire thing from the tower, and it was a nail biter from start to finish. They put on one hell of a show.

Just AI/CMC nationals at Hallett. Screw the rest of them. Plenty of room. Miller does sound kick ass but 1400 miles each way is a bitch. If you could take off just one week it would help but when you have to take a week plus a few days it's hard for most of us to pull off.

Glen,

Most of the time at the tracks we run our Texas CMC/CMC2 lap times are really close. How are they so far apart at Miller? Shotz was supposed to be in a underpowered car and he was 4.3 seconds faster than your CMC car. We know you beat him last year so he's not a few seconds a lap faster than you driver wise? I don't understand :?

well Dave has more power this year than last. he's underpowered in terms of HP and straightaway speed (acceleration) w/ regards to other CMC-2 cars, but not w/ regards to me (he has a 350 TPI motor). his track record was his best lap, but my best lap was a 2:17.4xx and Dave Balinget ran a 2:16.9xx. my car was also underpowered at 220/287 to Dave Schotz 240/330 numbers. Dave also had 275/17's and i'm still convinced they are faster than a 255/16. this track as opposed to Mid Ohio seems to like high spring rates, which i dont have and he and other CMC-2 cars have for sure. i also took alot of grip out of the rear of the car to help w/ a major aero push related to the track corner speeds and me having too much caster. instead of me doing trackside alignments, i opted to give up rear grip. Dave also ran the MMP school Mon/Tues.
my car has a 2:15 in it w/ more track time as well as a better alignment.
Adam says that 5 seconds is the norm for time diff between CMC and CMC-2 in Cali. we dont see that here, and i'm not sure why. i know JP and AF are not slow, so i dont think that is the case. the long straight at MMP is very long, much longer than TWS, but the turn leading onto the straight is very slow. i could hold 2nd gear till trackout, where we are top of 3rd at TWS. cars w/ more power will accelerate faster and for longer periods of time. half way down the straight at MMP, my car would pretty much flat line in rate of acceleration.
so i dont really see the time diff a problem, but it did get my attention and was the topic of conversation more than once between myself, Adam and Al, as well as Nick Steel and Mike Plum.

basically, there were too many issues/variables that affected lap times between CMC and CMC-2 to do a accurate comparison.

Jerry, you have to look further to the AI lap times which were in the 2:10's to compare to CMC. Some of us in AI were knocking on the door of 8's all weekend, Martin and Lindsay got into the 6's and 7's...albeit a little suspect and were slower once they got focused on.

so if you look at a 2:17 to a 2:09 (avg) in AI, the -2 numbers in the middle makes some sense. I do agree with Glenn though, the 17s make a HUGE difference when you get the setup right as Shotz has, as did the 4 piston brakes. He did his homework for sure!

Glen,
You may have taken my post wrong. I was not trying to put you down I was just saying that usualy the front running CMC guys are faster than the fastest CMC2 cars (in Texas). James has been faster a few times but the difference in power has not made much difference in lap times at our tracks. I was shocked to see even the midpack CMC2 cars two seconds faster than the fastest CMC times? When you consider the fact that we run so many different type tracks I did not expect Miller to be any different as far as lap times were concerned between CMC and CMC2.

Jerry, I think the front straight had a big thing to do with the much faster CMC 2 times. It is WAY longer than the TWS straight but the speeds are similar b/c of the slow entry speed onto the straight. There is just alot more "acceleration time".
Also mentioned previously, I think the 275 tire makes a pretty nice difference.
I think Jeremiah clicked off a 2:15 and was definitely hauling the mial.

GlennCMC70
09-16-2009, 10:52 PM
Jerry, i think i got your point pretty clear, but i could only answer it from my POV. i used Schotz as the best example due to the fatest CMC-2 lap time turned.
trueth be told, 18's for CMC was the norm as was 15's for CMC-2, so 4 seconds or less was a good estimate.

anyone know how close we are at a track like Hallett? MSR-C?

FWIW, in CA, the lap time difference between CMC and CMC2 is, on average, ~4 seconds, depending on the track. @ Cal Speedway in August, Dave Brown was running low 1:56's, while the CMC cars were running ~2:01's during the race (although I ran a 1:59.059 in March during my first weekend at that track). Qual times were 1:55's vs. 2-flat.

Dave Brown has a metric shit ton of racing experience, and is a very well set up car. Nick Steel has a great deal of racing experience, and is also in a very well setup car. Same with Schotz.

I don't have as much racing experience as the folks listed above, and my car is hardly the best set up Fox3 around.

I appreciate that Glenn.
If anyone knows of someone with a set of RA1s or 888s in size 18/265-275 that would last a weekend and they are willing to sell me REALLY cheap I can probably get the brakes taken care of. The pads on those APRacing calipers ain't cheap. I sold my 17 inch wheels 2 years ago so all I have is the two sets of 18s.
If that gets worked out then it might be doable assuming I work on the car at the track 'cause I won't be home before 2AM that morning.

I might need some help/advice on either disconnecting the ABS or flushing...I found out I had a leak on the right front caliper after MSRC (which explains why I kept going so damn deep into the braking zone before rattlesnake!! - just glad I did not join the HighSpeedOff club!!)
