Starting this more as a placeholder...

THIS JUST IN!!! I talked to Gary over at Horsepower Engineering yesterday. He agreed to $40 per car for 3 pulls. We need at least 10 cars to show up for this price. Gary R... bring yo posse!

If y'all are in, we need to nail down a date to do this, preferably early January so that I can get on their schedule.
JANUARY 9th, it's ON

8am - whenever everyone is done
We need some people to show up at 8 so we can make sure everyone gets the pulls they want.

I'm open presuming the engine isn't; just the one gas-O-line vehicle.

I guess I could tow the car up with the tractor.

So many Gary's here...

Gary R, can you update the list (via editting your post) so that I can keep a running total of all committments?

Let's shoot for a Jan 9th (I'll confirm with Gary at HPE) EARLY start. Will try to get us an appointment for 8 am.

LET ME KNOW ASAP if this date is alright with everyone!

9th works for me.

Talked to my dad. He's willing to dyno his '08 G8 GT to make the required 10 people if needed. Will talk to a guy wik an '10 Camaro and another guy wik an '09 Challenger SRT to have more backups. :D

I don't need to do any, if you guys run out of room... I'm just curious about the #3 car as compared to last year... AIX #27 won't need one and the TT #10 shouldn't need one either

I'm in for Jan 9. I am pretty sure that Ron (SRT Challenger) wants to come as he had a blast spectating last year. If there is room, I'm sure he will dyno, provided there is time.

I just talked to Gary at HPE again. He said that there should be NO PROBLEM taking 30 cars. Their dyno days (making 2 pulls) are accommodating 60 cars... so 30 should be NO problem. Those that wish to do some tuning during their dyno stint will have to be at the end of the line and work out your price for addtional pulls with Gary at the time. So... tell all yer buds to BRING IT! AGAIN... this will be $40 per car for 3 pulls. Update here with your car counts. Gary R. is editing the first post to keep a running total.

So in a 12 hour day he can do 60 cars? That is 12 minutes each. At the place I go the guy takes longer than that to strap the car down.

Typical "dyno days" here in Dallas where they have 3 guys dedicated to operating the dyno can do 50 or 60 cars in 10 hours easily. Sometimes so fast the printer can't keep up.

Going with the 30 number as the cap, I think we will come under that because somethig will always come up for a few people. I've got a few people interested (with the understanding that racecars come first), and Ken is going to see if a few TT's will be interested.

OK... I dropped by HPE yesterday to talk to Gary Harmon and make sure our date is set. We need some cars there by 8 am in order for us to get these all done. I'm planning on having my car up there the night before (I drive by the place every day anyway). Anyway, we should start designating a window of time for everyone to be there. The parking area is large enough to accommodate all our cars but there needs to be an organized parking array done with the trailers. When you come into HPE you be going along 1960 at some point. Turn south onto Perry Rd. You will then have to make a U turn at the first opportunity. Turn into the second driveway and park lengthwise along both sides of the curbing. We can overflow into the hotel parking lot if needed.

Let the thrashing continue...

Remember to arrange for your additional pulls prior to bringing your car up for the 3 certified pulls. We are going to try to get the cars that only need the 3 pulls done first and then pull in the cars that want to tune. Race cars get preferrence over street cars for time slots. Be there early to get yours done early.

I can't make it. I'll be in Daytona to help out as a Field Official in preparation for the Rolex 24 later in the month.

Wish we could have made it but this weekend has a lot of stuff going on.

Since there won't be any series directors attending, For those racers attending, print off 2010 Dyno Tech sheets. Follow the instructions on the back. Bring a tire gauge with you, it's important to get alll cars at 30lbs. Make sure to have the dyno operator or other 3rd party sign/attest that it was all done. (Perhaps Rob L. or Ken B. could help with this as our representatives.)

Be sure to take pics and capture the details of the day! We all love to hear how it went and a little picture/video action could be added to a 2010 season recap if someone steps forward.

Not really sure. Seems like these guys have their act together if they can do 60 cars in a day, they potentially could be done with 16 by noon, Could you get there just after 8? I have no problem if the #1 is the next car in line after whatever is on the rollers when you show up. Either that or we'll just stall them til you get there :-D

If I show up, it will be after lunch. It's supposed to 20 degrees at 8 am. Not only does that sound like no fun, I really don't want to kill the car (again). I also have to question the results when you are that far from the conditions you normall run in.

At this point I'll probably wait for a different day...

Hood
01-05-2010, 05:20 PM
I might suggest that before you pull up in line that you do a bit of driveline warmup. It will be VERY cold in the morning and your fluids will be like molasses. This WILL affect numbers to the low side if you aren't warmed up. This COULD bite you later if they dyno the top guys at an event. Also, it is not very nice to your diff/trans. Bring jack stands so you can run through the gears...

I should have brough some diesel for a fire, it was cold.

Really, I should have brought a car but I'm a hack mechanic that apparenlty can't put on front brakes - you guys might want to let me start up front.

Hood had a mechanical because the new rear axle had larger flanges than the old one and the brakes wouldn't bolt up.

Gary (per usual) drove the car, made pulls and re-loaded. Laura put the Sky on the drums and spun to an owner unimpressed number post factory upgrade tune. I'll remind them how to challenge a credit card charge.

Alex brought the street third gen, with the 1/4 mile numbers still on the windows and after we built a bridge so the long tubes could clear the rollers, made nice pulls with a strong sounding AND printing hot rod. Nice.

Who brought the dodge? Nick? No CMC for you - just go after that thing with a plasma torch and run AI.

Gary's dad had the G8 all warmed up but apparently it has the turning radius of the Queen Mary - or, since Gary was driving, it explains why he looks late turning in a bunch of corners. G8 made a nice, respectable, albeit quiet pull. But hey, he did have a car there.

Wade... come on now. The Duece better hope his driving is down on power because the car ain't. That little 5 liter spun 'em up and sounded good in the process. Got to etch in my brain that it won't be Jerry/Jay going around me now in that particular pony.

Speaking of The Duece - perfect weather for the Dreamsicle. It was chilly enough to keep Sam and the car chattering. Looking at the top-end-less photos from a week ago, that boy's been busy. But as I know first hand, sometimes those rockers just aren't as tight as they used to be after putting the motor back together. I had to bail before they ran, but based on my super secret spy photos, I'm SURE he spun em well.

Did I mention it was cold?

Thanks to Hood for getting us set up - guys at the shop were friendly and efficient. Now, where's that 5/8" to take out some of that rocker clatter and an 18 AND 19 since Al likes random brake hardware.

I'll have to wait for another day to see if it's going to be another 211/284 year; or, wait - you guys trust me, right?

Laura's Sky pulled the same 218 hp as last year, pre-factory tune upgrade vs post-upgrade :(

Alex in the 3G w/ ZZ4 crate - 295/360

Ron's Challenger SRT8 put down 375/377. He's our next victim to coerse into building/buying CMC2 car in a year or so.

My dad's G8 GT was ~288/319 IIRC

Thanks for all that showed up. For a while in the morning I didn't think we'd have the required 10 cars to get the discount. Next year... Prepay :-o

Shout out to Gary and the guys at HPE... thanks.

Oh, and Hood for showing up and not stomping off in a huff.

And Dr. Horsepower for the plate recommendation.

Wrong restrictor - 221hp/289tq

Close enough restrictor - 227hp/290tq

No restrictor, i.e. To Deuce or Not to Duece - 256hp/298tq

Should be a fun weekend.
