Dave asked me to get with you guys and see who all would be up for a Sept event at Hallett.
This you should know:
This will not be a Texas Region AI/CMC point’s weekend.
It will be a Central Region AI/CMC point’s weekend if it is held.

We have always been fortunate to have other regions cross-over to our June Hallett event. This has been very beneficial for the Texas AI/CMC growth over the last few years. With drivers participating from 3 or more regions that end up on our annual point’s sheet, it has no doubt contributed to the appeal of AI/CMC in Texas. It seemed like this would be a good time to give back to a new and up and coming region to help get it established. One of the best ways to "get established" is to get names on the point’s sheet. The point’s sheet is one of the places people look to see which class(s) in their region has the best fields. Field size is a key factor in deciding what class to build/buy a car for.
So with that said.....
How many of you would be up for making this event? The Central Region folks are looking to get an approximate head count for this event. I know it is a little far out time wise, so I'm not looking for commitments. I know stuff happens between now and then. I’m just looking for a number of folks who would like to make this event.

I think I could make it to help out the new region.

I would like to run this event. It is hard to predict for sure this early out, but I certainly would like too.

Love Hallett but it's a long way from Georgetown.

Love Hallett... may prefer it to trying to make Nationals.

I'll make it. It is my village you know.

I am interested. First thought is to maybe race AI for the event.
Pull ballast, make a wider track width, put on some shorty headers and crank up the timing. ;^)

I'd like to go and I'll try to make it. Schedules get tight that time of year.

I'd like to go as well. Dunno about having two Mostys in AI though...one is more than enough for cryin' out loud.

Note to self - propose "The Mosty Cap" rule change for next year. Just kidding guys...bring it! We'll have a blast :)

Hallett is fun, but Nationals is its own level.

Hallett is fun, but Nationals is its own level. Maybe so... but it's a ton closer to the house, I like the owners and track staff, and since there's a reasonable chance I will finish 6th through 9th a lot, i'll eat my racing budget money in tires.

I was planning to adjust my schedule to make this race but I couldn't find any Central Region drivers in the June Hallett results. Does anyone know how many CMC cars they have?

Is anyone else still planning to go?

Edit to add: It looks like about 4 AI cars and no CMC cars so I'll pass this time.

My car is in pieces and has another 30-40 hours before it can hit the track... I'll be doing good just to get to ECR... :)

I'm putting all my eggs in ECR. I need another pair of tires and some time behind the digital multimeter to T/S my ignition problem just to make ECR.

As much as I would love to have a crack at Hallett this year, it ain't gonna happen. Been hotter than I want to have to work on the car which hasn't run since the new motor went in.

Should be at ECR. Too bad the long summer break isn't the official off season...

Pulling the motors in the 3 and 27 this weekend... Might focus on the 27 car for now since the AI rules are more flexible. I still don't see how I can reasonably get the numbers I need for the TPI without spending too much $$...

What is your plans for the motor are you looking for a new 1 or rebuilding what you have?

I have a test engine stand for Lt 1 set up if you would like to borrow it?

Plan A is to put in a 350 bought off of ebay and take some time to rebuild the 305

Why not put the 350 money and the 305 money together and buy an LT1 and drop in there?

Sean Maybe for Plan E... motor is in the car and my best guess is that it's timing related. Will probably try to get the battery charged and troubleshoot some more this weekend. I mean the family is coming to my house for the holiday... i might as well go see the race car.

Because I already have the 350 that I purchased for the 27 car two years ago... bearings, rings and valve springs for the 305 are less than $300...

you find me a COMPLETE LT1 swap INCLUDING ECU and wiring for less than $300 and I'm "ALL IN!"...

Everybody tells me to make the swap but NOBODY will fund it... just sayin'

An LT1 will cost more than $300. But $300 spent on the TPI 305 is still bad money spent. That keeps you $300 more way from a top CMC car. You only lacking power at this point.

I paid $800 for mine w/ harness and computer. That was in 2004 when it was still a popular swap motor. W/ the LS1 the only option now days, the LT1's are much less in demand and should be cheaper.

I would convert that car to carberated 350 and never look back. If you can't afford an LT1, a carbed 350 is the way to go.

The Sept 22-23 Central Region event has been canceled according to a post I saw on the National site in the Texas forum.
