post up your 2012 numbers, ain't got nothin to hide...

dyno: ProTech, Austin
date: 14-Jan-2012
Car: #95 Firebird
Class: CMC
Engine: LT1
Restrictor: 41mm [dual hole] plate
HP: 259
Tq: 304

Bumped up from the 40mm plate of last year to a 41mm this year.
pulled 259/304 averaged peaks of 3 runs. last year at Colvin's w/ a 40mm I did 255/304 and with a 39mm I did 251/302, so it is good to see consisent results. I had previously estimated 5hp/mm in plate size for a relative short range of diameters and this set of pulls was spot on.
Don't worry, I'm sure I'll scale in around 75-100lbs over. Plenty of margin.

date: 12-Jan-2012
Car: #82 Camaro
Class: CMC
Engine: LT1
Restrictor: 36mm [dual hole] plate + one piece of 2" wide duct tape over the air box opening
HP: 258
Tq: 302

The duct tape will be replaced with an identically sized but more durable piece of sheet aluminum before the first race. Dan is making up some more restrictors with smaller openings for the next time it is on the dyno. Let me know if anyone needs some...

date: 19-Jan-2012
Car: #29 Camaro
Class: AI
Engine: LT1
Restrictor: 42mm
HP: 370
Tq: 365

Last season I dyno'd 360/360 with a 38mm plate. Shooting for 375 this year so I swapped to a 42mm plate, made a small change to the tune and dyno'd 355 at ProTech last weekend. HP went the wrong way and the AFR was doing some wacky things...no bueno on the tuning change. No time to fix it though so I just got my annual done (Thanks Kyle!) and put it back on the trailer. Tried a different approach in the tune, went to Colvin today and pulled 370/365 with exactly the AFR I was looking for. Started to try a 44mm plate but not while paying hourly dyno rates. It's close enough...I'll just yank some ballast and call it done. No fun paying for two dynos but it's done now, I learned some stuff, and made sure the tune is safe to go out and beat on.

First set of pulls was 262hp unrestricted. Back on the rollers later w/ 47mm plate to take the edge off, 270hp, but the water temp was low. Got it up in the temp range, three more pulls, 269hp (same 47mm plate). Hmmm. Lets try a 43mm plate, maybe it will keep gaining hp and I'll go run AI. :)

Are you guys making your restrictor plates or is there a place to purchase them. I'am new to this restriction action. FMR

Definitely not the same as last 3 years and certainly no room to moan about lack of power out of this car. Was just happy to get through the dyno runs clean since the whole drivetrain was out of the car 2 weeks ago. Motor keeps running stronger so it must be getting ready to let go. Dyno showed a huge drop in power around 4900 rpm; springs are relatively fresh so maybe that automatic computer just isn't happy... or just scared of mighty Mustang power.

I also have a set of passes with a 42mm plate 266hp/311tq.

WOW!

Great numbers. No 4.6 can't get near that

Aren 't you are running a carb (ugh) now? Look into old Nascar plates maybe? Glenn and I came up with the plates for the LS1 then had a machine shop make them out of plastic so probably won't help you much.

I didn't have a 48.5mm diameter restrictor!

Since the car is still 50lbs overweight I am tempted to run the higher numbers. 266 is a little close if I ever need to dyno however.

What do you think?

Wayne, I'd go with the 48mm plate. To go w/ the 49mm plate you would need to be 75 lbs over min weight. Maybe run the big plate at TWS and the small plate everywhere else.

Run the 48MM. 10hp jump is alot for 1MM. Besure your being very consistant w/ dyno runs from start RPM to engine temp and trans/diff temp. Looks like to me the diff and trans warmed up during the 1st set of pulls and the result showed up during the 2nd set.

Wayne-thats a big jump in hp. I looked through my old dyno's and didn't see anything that big when changing one plate size. How many pulls did you make on the 48 and then the 49? You would have to add some weight to run that 49 mm. I would just stick with the 48 and then you don't have to worry about it. You could even see about pulling more weight out of the car to get closer to the minimum which shouldn't be hard to do.
