WTBuy or Borrow Welder - 115 Volt

I need a welder for a battery tray to finish up the 62 vette. I figure I might as well learn how to weld and buy one for future projects. If anybody has one I could borrow just to finish this up please let me know. Or if anybody has a used on they were thinking about selling let me know.

Also-do I need an auto darkening helmet or is the handshield good enough?

I bought a solar powered auto darkening helmet from Harbor Freight. Using coupons and finding it on sale, it only cost $39.99. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Then go to a local welding shop and pick-up a small (2ft tall) bottle of Mig Mix (75/25) shield gas. This welder can do flux core too if you want. But the extra $50 will allow you to run gas if you want to later. Flux core welds look alot like welding w/ an arc welder. Not as clean and consistent as shield gas.

I don't think a 62 Vette is what most folks learn to weld on. Bring it buy here and I'll do it for free.

Bryan, I've got 3 good welding helmets (well 2 good and 1 OK) you can borrow one until you find what you want.
I think the welder is busy this weekend (though not Saturday since I'll be at the BBQ) and through next week/end to do some work on the racecar but if you are not in a rush we can work out a time when you can borrow it.

Really appreciate the info. I have some calls to make before I buy one. I was mistaken on not needing the gas. Since I'm trying to clear a car out of the garage to make room for the race car I don't really want something else taking up room. I may have found a good option yesterday to get this taken care of.
