Due to an uncertian future in my move to New Mexico, I opted to purchase an RV to live in instead of renting a home or apartment. As usuall I jumped at a good deal without proper research. I now have a 40' fifth wheel monster RV with no way to transport it. There are forums out there with people claiming to haul large fifth wheel trailers with 3/4 Dodge Hemis but I'm sceptical. I have looked everywhere and there are no companies that rent trucks for this purpose. The only member of my family with a sutiable truck, uses his 1 ton Dodge Cummings everyday and I would need it for a week.

SO... I am looking for a 1 ton tow vehicle... I really don't care much about looks, just reliability... This is not an RV that will be moved around alot...

If someone has one I could borrow or rent for a week, that would be awesome but that is a longshot at best..

Try this thread for some ideas.

I also know of a nice 2000 F250 Crew cab with 7.3 diesel for sale.

HELP!! a few years back the was a lengthy discussion concerning Ford diesels... I have a chance to buy a very clean F350 from an estate... it has the 6.0 motor and I've heard bad things about that motor... also, I believe there may be certian years of the 7.3 to stay away from... I have to make a decision by this weekend... Thanks...

From experience the 7.3 in 2003 has served me well for 220k miles. A friend has had a 2000 since new with 350k miles. The 6.0 I would stay away from.

Look at the forums for F-series, F150online comes to mind. I've heard that the EGR is the problem and it will leak out all the coolant, overheat the engine and blow a head gasket. EGR delete has been mentioned as a fix.

7.3 engines are reliable but noisy and stinky. The transmissions are a weak link but David St. James in Tomball can fix that.

6.0 is quieter, more powerful, have better transmissions, but have the EGR issue.

Good luck.

The later 6.0s (06 and 07) were much better than the previous years.

A head design changed gearing towards low sulfur diesel saw 4 added head studs.
So pushing the head gasket wasn't as bad as previous years.

The key to a healthy late model 6.0 is clean fuel, clean coolant and NO power adders.

I got a load of bad fuel last year and had fueling issues ever since in the 07 I owned.
Other than that, it was a rock solid truck.

Flushed the coolant every 30K and it was bone freaking stock.
I traded it last month for a 1/2 ton GMC.

If you buy our diesel coolant filter kit, EGR cooler delete kit, you should be fine.

A family member had a 2002 F350 4X4 7.3 powerstroke with single turbo that belonged to her husband who passed away 4 years ago... 27000 miles...

Ran the whole rig through CAT scales... 25,000+ lbs... did fine even in the mountians..

Thanks for the advise...
