View Full Version : AI/CMC Texas 2013 Awards Banquet

I got alot of folks asking if we were having an Awards Banquet for this season. I think it is a good idea if we get back to doing this on a non-race weekend lke we have done in the past. If we are going to do this, we need to get cracking.

We need a date.
This needs to be planned around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years holidays. Lots of places that we can hold a banquet at book up for Christmas parties between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So picking a date and then a location that can accomodate us is goal #1.

We need a location.
How much room do we need? Plan for 50-60 as that has been the norm. We need to get a head count as soon as we know details. Will we do the cooking, have it brought in, or can the location be the dinner? Pot luck?
Do they have what we need to do a World Premier of the 2013 video? If not, can we provide this?
If anyone has an idea of a location, post it. A free facility (or deeply discounted) would be ideal, but not required.

How much time do we need to finish the vid?

In the past we have always picked an evening time (5pm). I would like to see a 12-2pm start. Perhaps do awards then eat?
I would like to see someone also take point on this as I have done a few of these and would like to pass the torch.

Reminds me, I need to get working on awards....... See next post.

I propose Caffe Capri, Rami's restaurant, on Saturday December 14th. I emailed him and Wendi to see if that date/location would work. If it is in BCS, whatever the restaurant, I can take point.

I think Caffe Capri is a good idea. It worked out pretty well for us last time we had it there.

We are in luck…the room is open and available. We are closed in the afternoons at that time, so pot luck/bringing in food/etc would def work. Whomever needs to contact me to make this happen, let me know.

And I have projector/screen/audio for video. Room for 60 seated. Plenty of parking in afternoon and since we're closed till five, be as loud as you want ;)

I talked to Rami yesterday at lunch about the specifics. Not hearing any in opposition, so speak up if this time/date/venue, etc doesn't work for you. Then we can go through the shenanigans of having a poll for the date, then the location, etc.

Since the restaurant is closed for lunch on Saturday, they will have to bring in cooks/waitstaff to accommodate. $20 per person, $10 per kid for one of their standard banquet items. The group can pick which one, but probably Chicken Parmesan with salad and bread. The restaurant will have beer/wine for sale, but it IS ok to BYOB. Thoughts?

There is a dive bar around the corner that I think you will enjoy. It is called "HALO"

Definitely stoked to go, we used to have our TAMSCC banquets up there every semester, lots of memories.

EDIT: I'm talking about caffe capri not HALO.

Late lunch then? 1:00pm? Assuming you have a 4 hour drive, leaving at 0900, banquet from 1-4, home by 8:00pm. Going to be a long day for you guys! Anyone opposed to 1?

Should someone consider trying to get a group rate somewhere for those that don't want to drive back home that night?

Everyone please use this link to indicate whether or not you are coming, and if so, the number of people in your party. I made the list from the season points sheet so no complaining if you aren't on there. Just add your name to the bottom. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks, Wade

Banquet Time is 1pm to 4pm. A little late for lunch, but better for the families that have to travel. Specifically, the Carpenter's :-p It wouldn't be the same without them!

I just meant for the future. Each driver's meeting ask who hasn't provided their # and email. I asked the national office to crunch a report showing everyone in Texas that ran AI/AIX/CMC this year (and maybe 2012 as well).

Wade... I may miss now. I am coaching an indoor soccer team... actually coaching one and assisting another one in an indoor tournament. If either team makes it far enough in the tournament, then I will have to miss the banquet. I hate missing it.

I won't really know until maybe the day or two before though.

Anything. Not really thinking along the lines of NASA CCR Tech though. More like racecar set-up and driver learning stuff.

Maybe Patterson can give a mini shock setup demo and talk about spring rates, different types of valving, and adjustments (stiff/soft) for front/rear and what that does during different phases of the corner.

Where is the link to the video? Come on you slackers. Ok... 9:42 CPT Sunday, December 15, 2013... Vimeo is processing.

Anybody else know about bitrate calculators? Who would have thought people cared about what it looks like.

Hopefully a URL later this afternoon.

So as the google is learning me about bitrate...

Original I brought: 1.7Gb or so
First re-render: 1.9Gb
Second re-render: 900Mb or so (need under 500Mb for Vimeo)
Third re-render: 80Mb... yeah, you don't want to watch that
4th re-render: so the third one burned down, fell over, and then sank into the swamp... but the fourth one seemed to work... 475Mb or so and on its way through the ether.

UPDATE: Worldwide release at approximately 2:00PM CPT Sunday, December 15, 2013.
