View Full Version : Pilot bushing removal

I've removed several pilot bearings / bushings in my time and it's always been a pain, usually involving a slide hammer and smashed fingers or grease and a giant mess. Heard of somebody using bread instead of grease with good results so I gave it a shot...works GREAT!

On the left is the pilot bushing...on the right is one entire slice of white bread. As a bonus, the bread also absorbs all the clutch dust and other dirt, leaving a nice clean surface. :D

A big bolt that fit inside the bushing with a couple layers of tape around the end to make it a snug fit.

You have to dig through a lot of multi-grain to get to it, but yeah, we do. ;)

I bet it was organic, with wheat crushed by hand...

Fixed that for yaMarshall will only eat it if Celine Dion harvested the wheat herself.

It needs to be noted that the wheat is grown with her "greatest hits" being played over loud speaker at the fields...

I don't if any of you have been out to the Driveway Austin track....but you drive right by one of those organic gardens. I got a chuckle thinking about my car spewing exhaust fumes in the direction of that little garden. :D

Do you go out to the driveway often? I've coached out there for years but have never seen you?

No... I have only been once attending a NASA management meeting a few years ago, but we got to play on the track a little.

OOO yah I remember that. That was when Jay and Shannon ran our region. I was out there breaking in the motor on one of the school cars.

that was a fun day! I had ryan logan sitting right seat in one of the old cop cars trying to talk to his wife on the phone. Have to give him credit as he never dropped it. Patterson and I were running REALLY hard in those cars chasing each other as hard as we could. I remember the track owner standing at the turn in point on one of the curbs 1" away from the track and pointing for all of us to get closer, Closer, CLOSER. He was frantic. I brought that crown vic in with a little yaw and may have swiped his leg with the rear bumper. he wasn't there on the next lap around! LOL! I do remember him telling us they fish the cop cars out of the sand trap at the end of the back straight all the time! LOL! Tight track for a race car but fun for a street car.

Yah Bill always stands over there trying to help out the students during classes. I always enjoy going out there to test stuff.
