When I was putting the Tranny back into AI#67, I noticed a considerable amount of slop in my 10 year old Hurst shifter. After an unsucessful rebuild of the shifter today, it hit the trash can.

Therfore, I am in need of advice on what's the "cats meow" for shifters these days. I haven't bought one in a while, so I know there are more out there than the old standards:

1. B&M "Ripper" $200
2. BBK "Pro Plus" $175
3. Fidanza $176

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Anything with adjustable stops.
Five Oh is the way to go though.

I like the Ripper because the base can be adjusted forward or backwards about an inch to suit the driver.

I also like the way the handle curves towards the driver.

MGW....well worth the money and you can rotate the shift lever toward the driver for more of a custom fit....they aren't cheap but they are engineering marvels compared the to other "junk" out there that work to copy each other. One marketing picture that was taking had the entire car being picked up by the shifter!

Wow ... you Ford guys do everything weird.

The GM guys typically remove the trans from beneath the car ...

I think they were just rotating the tires?!

Marshall,
I tossed my 16 year old Hurst shifter this weekend as well. MGW is the cat's meow for Mustangs. I ordered it last Tuesday...arrived in 2 days. Installed last nite. Very nice.

From what I understand, they're made by the son of a gunsmith. All the materials are "gun quality".

PS- The composite "race knob" is very nice too!

There is a lot of quality in these and you won't be disappointed. They even come with a miniature tube of GOOD RTV to do the job!!!

I'm going to reuse my Hurst shift knob since there was nothing wrong with it to begin with, however the Carbon "Race" knob did look nice.

Hopefully I will have the car back on the ground next week. I spent about 2 hours today making two complete sets of brake lines for the car. Now I use 14" lines regardless of the position on the car, so I have a bunch of spares, "just in case".

FYI
My old hurst shifter had a different set of threads on the handle, it would only work on the hurst shifter... make sure you check before you force it on...

I have regretted getting the solid aluminum ball for mine....it gets DAMN hot!!!!

should be standard thread....mine was.

I thing the deal is that the Hurst thifter is threaded differently from the stock shifter so the knobs will not interchange.

Thanks for the tip guys. Worst case scenario, I go to Pep-Boys and buy a bLiNg "8 ball" shifter... It's worked good for Michael so far. :)

I would not suggest the "bling" 8-ball shifter. It doesn't even thread on and spins all the time and even came off during R1 at Houston a few months back.
When I get a new shifter ball that should drop about 1.25 seconds / lap, watch out!!!!!

A little loc-tite or a jam nut would solve your problem for really cheap!

A wise decision, my son...

I have a black shifter knob, engraved with a fire breathing bird.

Probably good for a second a lap at MSR-C
