Looking to put a generic GM radiator found in dirt track catalogs in my CMC 4th gen LT1. OEM rad will not cut it. My LGM direct fit is not repairable.

Found a 19" tall triple pass for $200.

Worth the time to lay it forward if you cannot vent through the hood?

Not sure on the angle. We've had a good experience with this radiator in the silver car: http://www.jegs.com/i/Be-Cool-Radiators/134/60028/10002/-1

Not sure but I think the LG radiators were made by Ron Davis or another place. I think I figured that out awhile back with some measurements or reading on corvette forum. Problem is they are so expensive and I think you run an external cooler so I don't see the reason.
You look at Day or Smiley's? They have some cheap universal radiators which I think are made by the same people that make them for nascar.

The LG one i had was a Howe. I worked on getting that deal going. I had the first one made.
I can get another from Howe for $600.
Looking to go more generic. Cost is a reason.
Looking @ an FSR triple pass @ $240. Has 2 rows of 1" tubes like my old LG (Howe).

The generic ones are too tall. 19" tall requires the radiator to lay back even more the wrong way. Rules allow for the lower suport to be modified and lowered, but that puts the rad at greater damage risk.
With the way these cars breath (cooling) from the bottom, laying it down forward will help. But is it pointless if the air cant go out a hole in the hood?
Should I go back to a front breather? I felt that hurt my aero pretty bad. I had it on the old car and it couldn never draft well.

Thoughts?

The old LG had a oil cooler in the side tank. Never worked well with the iron LT1. Worked great with the aluminum 5.7 even @ 500hp.

FWIW I like my entropy radiator; beat the crap out of it and have had it repaired a couple of times (no fault to radiator).

I see that the price has gone up on their site though from what I remember, $540 list now .

Glenn have you tried seeing if you can get a taller dirt track rad that matches the stock height/width then having aluminum angle welded on? I did this with mine to solidly mount a high flow fan and provide a more reliable mount point for my upper radiator shroud, that I made myself.

I can look on mine to see the brand. 2 pass generic fit no problems, just had to make my own hoses. Cools just fine now that the bumper beam isn't blocking the flow.

I'm thinking it was a BeCool. I'm in the middle of radiator research myself, for some reason. The BeCool is freakin' expensive.

Do you have pics of the surgery? I'm trying to keep the nose as structurally sound as possible for obvious reasons. I have an AFCO I believe with an internal oil cooler and even though it's sealed up tight I still have cooling issues. My first thought is to switch to an external oil cooler.

Stock is an 18" core.

The OEM replacement i was running was 18.5 inches tall x 30 inches wide.

Just got my FSR (Four Seasons Racing) 27.5"x19" from Day Motorsports. Got it in just about 26 hrs with nornal shipping. Triple pass. $270 to my door.

This is a very well made unit. Looks like billet inlets and outlets. I hope to get it mounted durring my week off next week.
Need to get a return line bung welded in this week.

So what size cap you guys use? I have used some pretty high rated caps in the past. 26lbs.
Likely why my tanks were bulged on my old aluminum one. Thinking 20lbs this time.

I was using an 18lb cap the last few years...no issues. Just replaced it with a 20lber I found while cleaning out a box of spares.

I use a 19-20 lb on mine.

My dust collector has had a dirt track single pass rad for many years. 27.5x19, if i recall. added steam tube bung and also drain bung. makes flushing easy.
hodge podge of hoses using Jags That Run reducers/connectors.
AN fittings & bungs look nice and are easy

lower hose half from WP - stock LT1
lower hose half to rad - '95 Vette ( think)
jags that run reducer to connect these

upper hose half to WP - stock LT1
upper hose half from rad - '95 5.0 (I think) just need a proper 90 deg one here.
jags that run connector

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Cooling-System-Parts_Order.html
upper hose w/ splice
1703

lower hose w/ splice and steam tube
1704

drain
1705

the odd part is the stock rad lower out is not 1 3/4 while the dirt rad will be. '95 vette was 1 3/4.
stock rad t-stat housing is not 1.5 either, IIRC

a triple pass will be the bees' knees

Would I be correct to say that a double pass would have inlet and outlet on the same side and triple on opposing sides?

Yes. That is why i went with the triple. There was not any real price difference.
