View Full Version : Low Oil Pressure... ya think?!

Cut open the oil pickup top and was met with something that I couldn't believe I was seeing.

I'm absolutely lost as to where all that debris came from. I checked one of the main bearings (nearest to balancer) and it was scored, but considering what I was seeing in the oil pickup, not bad at all.

Cam bearings all look great along with cam lobes and all surfaces...even the cam gear on the dizzy and cam were 100% ok.

Pistons all look great too. It might be a rod bearing or one of the other main bearings.

Blue gasket material + lots of copper debris is baffling. Anyone seen this type problem and know what caused it?

 That can't have been good.

BTW... Completely off this topic....but my car wouldn't start after the 40 minute race. Turns out it was a starter relay that was full of sand. I replaced the relay and it fired right up.

Have you been driving through any aquariums lately?

its a bearing.
probably a result of the gasket material blocking the pick-up. looks like the gasket stuff is mostly under the bearing material giving an indication of what happened first.

the pan gaskets at the front and rear of the block looked ok? rear seal looked ok?
how many blue rubber gaskets are on the motor, 3? 2 valve cover and one oil pan?
the blue gasket material looks pretty consistant in size. looks like something was rotating around and slicing off a little each time.

Aren't those good felpro pan gaskets made with a soft metal center with the bright blue silicone outter jacket?

Are you missing one?

I'm pretty sure Glenn was spot on. I took off the other main caps last night and "ugly" doesn't even begin to describe what the bearings looked like.

I did in fact replace the timing chain over the winter and the center oil plan gasket must have made its way into the pan. Even though I can't remember for sure, I thought it came out with the timing chain cover.

Either way, this situation is not good.

Thanks all for the responses.

will you have it fixed for MSR? or will your "other half" be there?
