In that box it's electronics that controls the air flow to move the "shift shaft;" can't find the name at the moment.

Look at the top picture on Page 57. The forks are moved by the circumferential grooves of that shaft which is why it has some diameter, versus the internal rails that move linearly in a T56.
At it rotates, it moves the shift forks into and out of position.
