Been looking at getting an OBDII code scanner so that I can clear codes on the wifes car instead of having to go to the dealership. Looks like it would pay for itself in about 2 codes. Anybody on here have experience with them? Worth the money? SPecific brand or type you would recomend?
Auto zone will read and clear codes for free. :)
I bought this software and cable for a laptop about 5 years ago. It works pretty good and can be bought to cover just about everything.
I have used it numerous times with codes on my street car to codes on the parents motorhome.

I bought one from Autozone, Actron. Just the basic pocket scanner.

It doesn't do all the real time stuff, but for me, the majority of the time I just want to see what the code is, clear it, see if it comes back, fix it, and clear it again. It doesn't do some of the higher level codes, like abs issues.
Also works nicely on the LT1 since Knocker is now OBDII. Since the CEL is now always on, I periodically check for a non usual code.
I have the basic Actron as well, very handy.
I have the most basic actron pocket scanner as well. Think I paid $50 and has paid for itself time and time again. Well worth the investment for people like us. Keep it in my truck at all times and always at the race track.
