How do you get pick-up off your tires

I am going to get my tires flipped and rebalanced before Hallett. I have an insane amount of pick-up on my tires. What is the best way to get this off so I don't throw off the balance?

I can think of two ways:
    1. Spend an hour or two (like Glenn did w/ his radiator ) and pick it all off with a screwdriver.
    2. Do a nice burnout in my driveway, swap tires front to back, and repeat.

    Ideas?

for tires i use a puddy knife.
tires are good for some "zen" moments, but a radiator is just on a "hoe nudda le vl!"

i too noticed alot of pick-up from TWS. much more than i normally get at other events. i know alot of folks who do not balance at all. it really is a wiaste of time are about 2 sessions is enogh to up set that balance.

Along with a heat gun. Just remember that when you pull off the track after the first session at Hallett your tires are going to look like those ice cream treats that are rolled in peanuts. You might regret your decision to do all that work.

Same here.. my tires are big time coated with crap. I did put on gloves and go around them and dig a ton of rocks off of them and pulled some strips of rubber off.

I use a piezo butane torch and a stiff putty knife.

you guys have waay too much time on your hands

We have PST fit our race tires and do swaps etc. - they have a scraper just for this purpose that they use it either manually if there is a particularly large dag - or run it over the tire surface when it's spun up on the machine for balancing.

No burnouts ... yet. I'm going to try the torch and putty knife trick, thanks for the suggestions.
