I'm still thinking about a 16' trailer. A $30/month storage fee is almost an event a year.

This seems like it is too good to be true:

    http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/ctd/1677618627.html

    83" X 16' AUTO HAULER

EXTRA LOW DECK, NEW TIRES & TREATED WOOD FLOOR

This trailer would normal sell for $2,199.00 but we have it reduced to

    $1,499.00 !!!

83" X 16 Auto Hauler that is loaded out.
    83" Wide Deck (Extra Wide)
    2 - 3,500 lb Axles,
    Brakes,
    Brake Away Kit,
    2K A-Frame Jack,
    Treated Wood Floor,
    Stake Pockets
    Extra Low Deck
    New ST205 / 75 15" Tires and Wheels,
    Lockable Slide Out Ramp

    Is it?

Before I bought it, I would see how much of a PITA it's going to be to load your car.

Having to cobble together a series of ramps, boards, spacers, etc to get the nose to clear the tail of the trailer.

While typing here on the internet it doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

When you are hot, drenched in sweat in the searing sun at TWS in August and no breeze, it becomes a big deal.

It was in NE Texas, up near Mt Pleasant (just down the road from my father-in-law) but they have 20' dovetails for about $1600 (or they did a couple years back).

True story. As a reference point, an 88 Thunderbird bumper will hit the front rail on a 16' trailer. We took the bumper off the Lemons car, but you proably don't want to do that with a real racecar. The mustang snout is of course shorter, but I know nothing of F-cars.
And you need to run away from the stumpy 'tractor' ramps that accompany many flat bed type trailers.

About 80% of the F-Car's entire length is cantilevered over the front wheels.

betcha that 16 x whatever measurement is the deck dimensions, not overall...

$1400 for a new one with all the paperwork in order to make registering it easy is cheeeaappp. Unless your time and effort is free you can't beat that.

I built a set of plywood ramps similar those high-tech (expensive) plastic ones in an afternoon, from two sheets of 3/4", some liquid nails and screws. Under engineered or they would be lighter.

You can always cut the front angle iron on the trailer ~ but that means less to slow the car down if you hit something while towing.

I've threatened to do just that, but it's not really my trailer. It is also not a car trailer; it's got rails all around about a foot high.
