As for gears, runs something more aggressive and then put a Gearvendor overdrive on it.

That is exactly what I'm planning on (and basic budget to build).

$21,990 will get you the complete kit, short driveline, paint, and tires. My plan would be to retire the AI car to cannibalize the driveline/brakes/wheels.

Thanks for clearing that up Marshall! Now we can quit trying figure out how you were planning to gain a competitive advantage by running 2:73's and get back to work.

They work great for me, I only use 1st and 2nd gear at most tracks, TWS I have to use 3rd!

At one point, I was thinking of a 351W based 408ci stroker motor for the AI car and then put a really tall gear in it so I could run a lower RPM at the top end (with a reduced rev limiter in the computer)... The engine is still in the corner of the shop just as greasy and ugly as it was when I bought it 11 years ago... I "think" it's an early '70's casting (from what I was told at the time)... Not too bad for $50. It cost more in gas to drive to Oklahoma to pick it up and drag it home.

Which is part of the reason why it never happened... I couldn't justify 75lbs of additional nose weight that couldn't produce any extra "aero" weight...
