    Transmission for the 5.3 LS

For you guys running the 5.3 what trans are you running? Everywhere I looked last night said the T5 was weak for the ls. I have not had a GM car in 14 years and never road raced so all this is new to me. Thanks

Yeah they are, look at it this way though
Lets say you are in 2nd place during R1, break a gear in a t5, you lost $450 in tire money(maybe another $450 for R3), $500+ in the trans, and probably around $1000 for the weekend(tires fuel brakes wear and tear etc).

Lost a lot of registration/consumable cost last year due to multiple transmission issues, truer words have not been spoken.

Yeah, but all of the problems you had were with the T56...

    This makes perfect sense.

They had all been messed with in some way. No telling what the current one will do, the engine failed before anyone really ran it.

Mike, try to get a newish (or brand new) unmolested T56 if possible.

I have raced with the LS and T56 for at least 8 years and have never had a trans/clutch/engine/rear have an issue. That has been with two different cars/drivetrains. The T56 is the way to go as long as it's unmolested or built correctly. It is overkill for the power levels we run them at and with an OEM clutch the pedal is easy peasy.

Nuh uh... we just pulled one out of the Firebird for you... on short notice... and you broke it.

Bryan is spot on; our experience is that if they are shimmed right there are not any issues.
