Thread: S550 Carb

    S550 Carb

Looking for recommendations on the right carb CFM for a S550 Mustang. On the way home from work it lit up with “Advance Trac Service”, “driver modes disabled”, ABS light, airbag light and showed a wrench light at the same time as losing most of its power (this has since gone away). After spending $250 on the fancy autozone code reader which didn’t recognize an S550, I figure it’s time for a carb conversion. Whatdayathink?

Hey Craig return that overpriced OBD2 scanner and get one of these, good for quickly checking codes and reading basic OBD data:

And these with the appropriate software to do the more advance ford diagnostics:

Between those two you should get some good fuel tables to go off of when you tune that carb.

A carbureted car with OBD II?

Carbs are voodoo to me whereas fuel injection is a simple closed loop controller, must be a generational thing. Now stripping off all the emissions, driving modes, and extra BS that comes on new cars makes them way simpler.

I would pay money to see the look on the techs face when he popped the hood to diagnose a driveability issue only to find a carburetor! #priceless Carburetor FTW
