...talking to Matt White the detonation was likely happening due the water getting in the cylinder.

Casting porosity in the head? Did the head literally just start leaking water into the cylinder? Slowly at first, no real impact on performance, too slow to let it run hot and just got worst with heat cycles?

Just a thought. I have an opti... what do I know.
