Not sure what platform you are running, but on my car and I've seen this on other cars too....the Engine Temp Sensor wiring is rerouted to a switch on the dash. The driver can break the continuity to the sensor by opening the switch. The PCM will then richen the mixture for starting and allow for easier warm starts. Then after the engine is started, close the switch and the PCM will now read the temp sensor properly. Maybe not applicable to you, but hope it helps.
