Definitely not. But in my old age I'm now smart enough to put helmets on the kids-just not for myself. The plastic discs we used in the sand dunes work great for the kids with a ski rope. Best was in the school parking lot where I could just sling them around. The 50 Rules! Now just wondering what crab toe was up to? And we are supposed to get more snow early tomorrow morning.....

Good Stuff...back in high school we used a 68 Camaro trunk lid, an inner tube, and a plastic towable sled for a boat and pull them all over a neighborhood with my Triumph TR7 car. Then we used these same items plus more to slide down the side of the lake dam(they put up fencing to stop this after us).

Kneeboard and a '78 Fairmont, that's what I used back in the day. I vividly remember seeing my girlfriend at the time getting slung through a row of hedges.

In fact, we didn't need snow to drag things behind the car. When I moved back to Texas from Detroit, I dragged my snow blower behind my '91 Mustang until the snow blower disintegrated upon colliding with a pole. It was a warm and dry evening. Wish I could find that video.

Finally got the project "home". Thanks toMichael for taking time out of his day to help me pull her out.

1957 Chevy Bel Air, 4-door Sedan
283ci, 2bbl, Powerglide Transmission
Factory A/C
119,000 miles
One owner (4th generation in the family)

Amazingly the car is truly the same color. Some panels oxidized at different rates (maybe due to prior damage/repair paint), but it's amazingly straight and only rust is behind the rear bump and back of the trunk (easily repaired). I even have the dealer letter from June of 1956 when the owner was configuring the car, and then purchased in July, 1956. Truly a diamond in the rough.

It's amazing what you run across at an Estate Sale.

Do a disc brake upgrade on all 4 corners and a nice low cost set of 17 or 18 inch wheels along with a 4.8 LS and 4L60 swap (the 4.8 cause they are dirt cheap) and drive the piss out of it. No A/C needed. Summer nights and spring/fall weekend driver.

Pretty cool old car. I am not sure if I mentioned it on here, but I drug home yet another Triumph TR7 (third one I currently own), but this one has a John's cars Buick V6 conversion and a Holley fuel injection system. Doesn't run though and so far has been a nightmare tracking down the wiring issues.

New AC Delco/Delphi coil, ICM, and knock sensor all correct for a 93 also installed. Hoping for a better dyno pull this year. No pics of the wiring, but I tidied/rerouted that under the hood as well. Shit was a hot mess just like all the other wiring I've redone. Nothing functionally awry this time though, so no free power hidden there.

We really need to enable picture embedding.

With Glenn 100%, 4 wheel discs are a must, adios the single master cylinder. Classic performance products sells a corvette style small bore master cylinder that has good feel without a booster. I lost my first 55 truck to brake failure and I built another years later with Trans Am front clip and LT1/auto from a Z28. That was way too much motor for it but it was an easy swap. All the computer needed to work was a bunch of fused power inputs, I tied into the factory engine/pcu harness. There lots of kits out there now for these cars. Power rack and pinion, good brakes, swaybar, fuel injected motor and you will love it, and your wife will be able to drive it.

This ain't my first Lucas nightmare rodeo... This is actually my 5th TR7, so I should kick myself for this crazy addiction to these cars.

Let the Lucas jokes fly.

The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."

Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas made the refrigerators, too.

Lucas--inventor of the first intermittent wiper.

Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.

The three-position Lucas switch--DIM, FLICKER and OFF.

The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE.

The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products.

Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck.

My first car was a 1968 Camaro convertible 327 4 speed. It was NOT nice. Body was straight and no rust but the paint (gun metal grey) was faded and the carpet was bad. Since we had just put in new shag carpet in the house (this was 1974) I used the extra in the Camaro. Fugly. Replaced it with a 1969 Mustang fastback but it had a six banger three speed. Great looking car but that is about it.

You guys are doing a lot better than me on first cars. First car was a new 4 door 4 cylinder automatic Honda accord. I autocrossed, road rallyed, and bracket raced the hell out of that thing all through college; even took it to TWS once but that killed its first transmission at 43k miles. When I finished school, I dumped it with only 85k miles on the clock with front subframe cracks, in need of its second replacement transmission, and a headgasket starting to leak.

Fortunately the Tundra I bought to replace it has rolled 100k miles and hasn't needed anything, yet.

I ran a 15.92 with the 3.08 open diff and a 2.4 60' and DA was around 7000' (also still had the EFI swapped oil chugging 289 in there). It pulled decently at sea level. I would have autocrossed it, but I had my Corolla at the time which was a good contender in the cones.

I didn't keep my first car, but close. My first car before had a license was a '74 Opel Manta Rally, then I traded it for 1956 Chevrolet truck that Dad and I fixed up to be good looking truck, but I hated how it drove like a truck. I traded it when I was 16 years old for my first Triumph TR7. Dad was not happy about it... especially when the motor let go shortly after I bought it. We ended up putting a Ford V6 in the car... but I wrecked it Dukes of Hazard style over a bridge. I bought a second TR7 with a bad motor and moved the Ford V6 over to this car below. We added the Porcshe 914 targa roof to it and I drove it while in college. I still have it, but it was destroyed in a hail storm and is a parts car.

Tell us more details about the Dukes of Hazard style wreck please. :^)

The short story....

16 years old... been out of town on a school trip... .stayed awake all night the night before on the trip. I was driving home late and fell asleep. I woke up and realized I was in the median of a four lane major highway. Grass was flying all over the windshield... what do you do? Stomp the throttle so you don't get stuck in the ditch. Bam... Hop over a guard rail at a small creek crossing and actually make it across the creek hitting nose first.

The car comes to rest with the rear wheels in the creek, front wheels up the bank almost straight up. With the hood bent, the throttle was hung wide open and rear wheels were throwing water and mud everywhere. I have to crawl out of the window with the car mangled and the doors wouldn't open. I climbed the bank and was planning to just walk the 5 miles home, but a majorly drunk dude stopped and gave me a ride to the house.

One of my uncles owned a wrecker service at the time, so we called him and we go back and pulled the car out of the creek and to the house. I was fine, just bruised from steering wheel and more surprisingly, my Dad didn't beat my butt. :D

Happened to me like 5 times. Sounds like you were a good kid......

Well yesterday I took the final exam for my last class needed for my AAS degree.
I had a course average of 102.33 going into the final. If I didn't take the final, I would have made an 81 in the class. I would have had to make a -57 on the test to fail the class. Still studied for 2 days and feel I made an A on the final. Grades due by Friday, should be an A.
So glad to be done with this. I started taking classes there in 1998 w/ getting my A&P in mind. Got my A and most of my P. Switched paths in 2009 after taking 9 years off (left the service and got into telecomm - never looked back at the aviation industry). I was laid-off in 2009 and had some free time to go back and switched from Aviation Maint Technology to Aviation Maint & Electronics Technology. It fit my current post military work history better. Pecked away 1 and 2 classes per semester over the last few years. Sometimes taking nothing or dropping for new job reasons. Dropped once because the class was over my head. That alone set me back a year (drop = wasted semester, remedial class to get up to speed = semester that didn't count towards degree or GPA, then retake original class).
So, I finished a AAS that took me 16 years to complete. Not proud of that at all. This will not get me anywhere job wise as I have 10 times the work experience than what an AAS is worth.

Hope to be able to put more time into CMC going forward. Still have 2 kids playing softball all year plus basketball as well. Still have that frickin bathroom shower to finish too.

No real point to my post, just wanted to share.

Way to go Glenn! I went back and finished my degree in 99 when I was between careers after bouncing back an forth over the years between work and school, I think it only took me 13 years and 11 months. I studied a year in electronics starting out then went to work and learned a lot more along the way in a medical equipment field. I was involved in aviation most of the time and did some avionics installations later on for the cargo airline I was working for because I was tired of flying POS avionics. I wasn't even in the same league as the navy radar techs I was working with in the medical field, but what I learned over the years made the transition to aviation electronics easy. There is a huge backlog for avionics installations right now and ADSB is mandatory in 2020, so if you get in a pinch, I am pretty sure you would get a bite as soon as you dip your hook in the avionics arena. They will take your shoes and chain you to the stove once they figure out what they have in you though....... :-)

Worth telling again for the new guys.

So I'm sitting at the dinner table w/ whole family and in-laws. As I get up, I comment that I need to go talk to a man about a horse. As I return to the table from where I had been (bathroom for you non-country types), my youngest asks when will the horse get here............. I thought my father-in-law was gonna fall over dead laughing.

That reminds me about another one.......
I rush into the house coming home from work. Wife and kids here as well. Wife asks what the big hurry is and I say "Gotta drop the kids off at the pool!"
Couple minutes later my wife is laughing her ass off. I walk out all done w/ my business and see what is so funny. Both my kids in swim suits ready to go swimming.

Ever get Brake Cleaner in your ear? Working on my wives SUV cleaning up underneath with some brake cleaner I was moving to the next spot to clean and had a drop of brake cleaner drop perfectly into my ear just like someone was putting in ear drops. Literally the one in a million shot-Doc Frank. It immediately started killing me. Started flushing my ear under the sink for 20 minutes. Got dizzy and thought I might pass out so I sat down. Looking at my kids I was wondering why the room was spinning so I just laid down on the kitchen floor. At least I didn't puke. Wife called poison control and was told to use two drops of baby oil in your ear and lay down for it to stay there for 30 minutes. That seemed to do the trick. So next time you are using brake cleaner use eye and ear protection.

Supercharged111

Same with gasoline but I got a lot more than 1 drop in there. Felt like somebody lit a match and threw that in with it. Rinsing with water gave some relief, but as soon as you pulled your head out it was exactly the same. Only time made the pain subside.

dtanker65
05-18-2015, 08:10 PM
Be careful with the chemicals fellas, their effect is cumulative. The hotter the solvent, the easier it absorbs through your skin. Brake cleaner is great, but don't use it unless you need to. Wear glasses always, use the straw tube and put some cardboard down to absorb the excess so it can evaporate. Don't blow dry it, hose the parts down with cleaner and wait for them to dry, soak up excess standing solvent with paper towels. Denatured alcohol gives a good oil free cleaning most of the time too. Keeping the garden hose and a fire extinguisher handy is cheap insurance as well of course.

Supercharged111
05-18-2015, 10:18 PM
Cumulative as in die of cancer from the shit? I go through quite a bit of Brakleen and carb cleaner myself. Another fun fact I'd heard was that using brakleen then welding afterwards can give off deadly fumes. I believe non-chlorinated doesn't have this effect?

I googled it. Tetrachloroethylene is the one to watch out for, if it's exposed to argon and the heat from welding it forms phosgene gas which apparently was a chemical weapon used in WWI. 4ppm is enough to fuck you up. Lucky for me, I'm a cheapass who hasn't run out of the 10# roll of flux core wire I bought with my welder years ago. So it sounds then like non-chlorinated would be OK, or maybe just makes you grown another arm instead of dying or something. Apparently this was also published in an AI magazine back in 2009.

BlueFirePony

I googled it. Tetrachloroethylene is the one to watch out for...
Yes, it used to be quite common but many other chlorinated hydrocarbons (aka chlorocarbon) have the same potential.
Yes, cumulative exposure at certain levels is very serious. Look at the label of products you use and make sure you check the MSDS and specifically the PEL (exposure info) for anything you are not sure about. Exposure of the compound to temps above 300C is very dangerous.
We did some synthesizing of chlorocarbons way back in college (I was an EE and since Faraday was the first to synthesize Tetrachloroethylene our professor thought it was a "cool" bridge between chem and electronics...just don't F' it up!)
Chlorocarbons are generally stable and are widely used as a solvent for use with a variety of organic materials which is why you will find them in cleaning products for clothing, furniture and paint stripping etc.
Tetrachloroethylene production has dropped but other low (molecular) weight chlorocarbons have seen consistent or even increased production (e.g. chloroform).
Focus on low VOC paints (Europe adopted many years ago but the US was quite slow) is starting to reduce the need in painting workflow but the stability and wide use means they are around.
...be safe

Don't quite know how to describe the last few days I was lucky enough to spend as part of the AJ Foyt team at Indy supporting the #14 car. Was able to be somewhat useful (not in the way all the time, just some) in the garage and during pit stops leaning over the wall to pull back the right rear tire and manning the starter in case of a stall. These were the highlights amongst trips to various race shops in Gasoline Alley for behind the scenes tours compliments of my mate Tom's (crew chief) connections, it was his 30th 500 race.

The race itself didn't start well for us, into the wall on lap one, thanks Sage... Sato's in car tells a different story to the ABC13 commentators. But the boys changed a bent toe arm, 4 tires and a mirror to rejoin 3 laps down. Working strategy on yellows we got back to the lead lap with around 20 to go in 28th position. The finish battle was epic between Montoya, Power and Dixon but what you might of missed was Sato working the 14 through the field to finish 13th. A great drive.

Best memory was AJ waddling down pit lane after Sage (who just finished making a dick of himself) to "whoop that boy's ass"

So I figured why my car was down a cylinder at TWS... The intake lifter in cylinder #5 decided to disintegrate... The pushrod (not bent) was sitting at the bottom of the lifter case. Not sure why this made the O2 read lean, but still need to do a full leak down before pulling the engine out...

Made an agreement with Trina that I could only do major work on one car at a time, so since the '57 just had it's engine redone, I will have to wait on this engine if it's something above/beyond a set of lifters and gaskets... Should have it pulled down in a few weeks. Just need a clear weekend day to pull it apart.

Been there and done that. Flew in a friends Bonanza. It is an absolute blast and they keep the grounds spotless. Get a radio and listen to the tower controllers jump all over the incoming pilots not doing what they say. It is the busiest airport in the world for one week every year. The only thing wrong with the air show is that once you see it you will never enjoy another one again (other than the likes of the Blue Angles). We got to see Bob Hoover in his last Oshkosh show. The things he did in a Shrike Areo Commander was amazing. Many say he was the best pilot that ever lived.

First airshow for the F-35 Lightning
First time ever for the B-52H to be on the ground for an airshow. I find that hard to believe but I read it today on Aviation ebrief.

Get ready for a great experience Rob! I have made the trek several times, the opportunity to meet Chuck Yeager, Bob Hoover and Paul Poberezny was very special. Pitching a tent at Camp Scholler and having a B-17 with P-51 escorts flying low for a wake up call was the best time ever! Seeing the Mig15/17's flying with F-86's was a close second. If you are staying the whole time, the workshops are awesome too. Put on your walking shoes and pick a direction, I have never experienced anything else like AirVenture.

The year we went they flew the F-14 Tomcat with the Bearcat in formation. The tomcat had the wings forward and the Bearcat had it firewalled. It was really cool to watch. The best was watching the F-14 stand on it's tail, hit the afterburners and disappear in about 10 seconds straight up. Also watching the Harrier land is cool and the loudest thing I have ever heard. With I was going to be there. The tower controllers are worth the price of admission all by themselves.

This was my favorite plane we saw in 1996 on my trip.

Just got back from Oshkosh last night. We spent three days at the show and I am very impressed by the entire experience. It is the best run event I have ever seen. The variety, quantity and quality of airplanes was amazing covering everything from a flying replica of the Wright Brothers Model B to an F-35.

Oh - we also climbed sand dunes and swam in Lake Michigan at Indiana Dunes State Park, drove the RV down Lakeshore Drive and through North Chicago, kayaked in the Missouri Ozarks, drove Arkansas Scenic Highway 7, camped at Degray Lake south of Hot Springs and burned a BUNCH of gasoline through 2,617 miles of the American Mid-West.

All this was just myself and my two sons, mom stayed home. :D

Yesterday I played fireman and tried to put out the burning truck in my neighbors driverway. Once the fire department put it out, I was told by said neighbor I could have it for $300. 2001 ex-cab chevy with a 5.3 auto. Ran perfect. Fire was in/under the bed and got in the cab. Trans and motor are untouched. Got it in my driveway today. Pulling the motor tomorrow. Once I scrap the chassis I will have $200 or less in the motor trans to put in my $500 84 Chevy truck.

Well while you guys were racing, I at least worked on my car.
At first I was going to swap the K member w/ the motor in and then swap the cam w/ the motor in the car. Trying to keep my pile in as few piles as possible. Once I had the entire suspension off, I realized I couldn't drop the pan to do the cam swap w/ the K member in or the motor in the car. So I decided to pull the motor.
It is a good thing I did as the damage was far greater than I expected.
Trashed K member, trashed A arm, bent knuckle, 2 bent wheels, 1 of the OEM cast iron motor mounts cracked, one aftermarket solid mount bent and cracked, top half of the bell housing shattered.
Trans looks OK. The K member was pushed back about 1/2 inch. The holes the pins in the K member engage are oval and those pins on the K member are angled forward. Unreal that the rack wasn't cracked. The metal loop/bracket on one end has a crack half way through one of the spot welds. That happens on all 4th gens anyways, not crash related. And the OEM Y pipe is destroyed. May start over and build a set of duals w/ an X.
Still lots of TWS concrete falling out of the chassis.

I'll need one knuckle and a bell housing for sure. I have a cast iron motor mount. I'll need to order new solid mounts. Getting low on wheels now. Gonna have to find a couple new sets. I think I have a knuckle. I'll have to look.

Mulling over the idea of swapping in the 5.3 I have, but would need a lot of parts to make it work, and convert the trans. I so hate the LT1, but don't want to spend the money to switch. Wonder if I could run a 4.8 and cam it up like the Fox/SN95 guys. At least then I would sound fast.

Upon first inspection it looked like all I need was an A arm and I could run the rest of Sunday. The hit I took told me otherwise. I'm glad I didn't play "tough guy" and race it anyways. Lots more busted parts than I imagined.

So we found out why Orange is Fourth!

All three keys in the 3/4 syncrho assembly are worse than toast, and all three were poking out of the slider. If they weren't billet, might still be limping along enough for it to fail at Hallett and let Dustin by for the win. If we had tried to "kick it out," I'm pretty sure we would have broken something significant.

Soon to be for sale in the other section. Nothing like paying somebody, twice, to apparently put a trans back together wrong. We're pretty sure the keys were NOT in the slider correctly.

Pics of the inside of the slider ring and the hub?Don't think so; replacing the 3/4 assembly - slider shows wear from riding the adjacent gear. Probably/likely all new bearings given some shininess we saw in the fluid and obvious wear on that slider.

Yet another milestone in my hopeful return to racing!
Had a MRI to see if the PT I've been doing for the last year has made any difference and VERY happy to say that I am now the proud wearer of more than 50% return of muscle around the lower part of my spine - had 0% muscle - 100% fat at L4/5 and L5/S1 a year ago with a disc that was not at all interested in staying put. Even the doctor was pretty surprised at the progress so I am REALLY happy today!
Kyri is coming home for Thanksgiving (shhhh - its a surprise for Anna) so we are going to have some serious discussion on when the #404 will return to racing and maybe , just maybe, get around to that second car next year.

His super-sized trailer is sitting at his shop in Ohio along with the spare semi (yeah, the young man has a spare semi now so he can rotate without downtime!) so it's just a matter of when I can start racing and when he can.

1. Lifter fell thru clean, should be a big deal to replace them all.
2. Motor went lean and chunked one piston and got several others hot. It's at the builder now for further diagnosis.
3. Going to try a different tuner and keep the total timing at or below 32-deg

Knee update
1. Had knee surgery 11 days ago to fix a torn meniscus and clean up some cartilidge damage and just had a successful post-op appt.
2. Have gone to three PT appts and have an intensive home-therapy routine. Takes about an hour, twice a day. Was cleared to do body weight squatting yesterday. Will be back to pre-injury state by the first of the year, hopefully.

2. Use 45psi of static fuel pressure (vacuum pulled)
3. Not going over 32-deg total timing on the tune
4. Putting in new "quick bleed" lifters that are supposed to tolerate high RPM better
5. New fuel pressure regulator and guage

Apparently, if you don't line up #29 and #35 (1st and 2nd gear blocker rings) when you press the 1/2 slider hub onto the mainshaft, you will push the keys out of the slider assembly. Only takes 2... maybe 3 tries to get it right.

The machined steps in the blocker rings are there for a reason. I broke a stamped key one time trying to muscle it together.

I bought bottles for 75/25 and pure argon. To be honest though, it's a bit of a PITA. I have to take them to the welding supply store for exchange, and they're never open late at night or Sunday when I seem to run out. Renting or exchanging from Home Depot would be much easier.

Same here, a big 75/25 and argon bottle, I take the empty to Airco and they give me a full one. Getting a re-fill is a pita. My experience with small bottles is that they only run out after 5pm or on Sunday. My technique is to hang my hood on the gas bottle and close the valve. Forgetting to close the valve on a full large bottle is a lesson you will generally learn the first time :-)

Similar story here. I bought a medium (#4) 75/25 bottle from the Tractor Supply near my house and have emptied and exchanged it 3 times in a little over 2 years. I did lose ~1000psi once from forgetting to close the valve but the rest was actual welding. However, if I had it to do over again, I would rent or lease a bottle from a local welding supply company that does free home delivery. I stumbled across one recently and for what I've used so far, I'd be a few hundred bucks ahead and wouldn't have to stand in line and fill out a bunch of paperwork every 7-9 months. Might lose the option for an after hours / weekend refill but that's not a new problem and there are plenty of ways to solve it...

I use praxair at home depot, first filled bottle was ~$250, exchanges are ~$35 for 75/25.

The 55 is back together after six bent intake valves. Like Marshall the old fuel is gone and new 93 has taken it's place. I have no way to know for sure but the car ran perfect at Hallett and in two laps off the trailer at TWS with no changes from Hallett this happened. The only difference is fuel was added prior to TWS. Fuel that someone was nice enough to pick up for me while we were at Hallett. Either it was 87 because he was distracted or the 91 pump was pumping 87. Only other possibility is the car still has an issue. A/F ratio at TWS during those two laps was 12:0 to 12:1.

I told the builder I wanted all I could get but needed to be able to run 91 octane fuel due to our annual Hallett race. I don't remember the exact number but I think it was 10.5 to 1. I had three race weekends that it ran fine on 93 and one running 91.

Had 7 slugs in the hole and the guy gave me 2 more with rods and no rings which I was able to source from a other junkyard motor and dropped it in. Bearings were also mixed and matched from said junkyard engine. I dremeled the rust off the valves and seats, slapped it together with a random oil pump and it never smoked or burned oil. Had a GT40P top end, HO cam, Cobra rockers, and shorty headers. Full up CMC motor, ended up getting some money for it when I junked the car.

How about I bring my Z06 trans to Hallett and you rebuild it while I drink beer and watch? Sounds tedious. Pre-load vs. end play. It's all in the "shimmin" instructions, just in a weird order for the newbs.

Sean and I, well Sean, built the end play tool and we think we have it shimmed well. Found several articles on building last week that said, and it makes sense, start with setting the countershaft pre-load. Makes sense that some/most of the horsepower rating comes from the countershaft beeing happily snug in the case halves.

Split the case again and, with no shim in the input/mainshaft hole - bolt up the halves with the shimmed countershaft, and measure the input/main tolerance. split it again and intall input/main shim. Bolt it all back up again, pull reverse idler and countershaft extension shim, install extension, measure...

Make sure you put the extension spacer in correctly and that the blocker is lined up with the keys... or you have no end-play when you should have 0.050ish. THEN you get to do it again.

So Orange is shimmed and the entire crew, including smart guys, is gathering tonight to get it all put together. Not holding breath... have faith in those guys.

Dustin - bring an engine stand, transmission adapter, various snap ring/split ring pliers, 20 ton hydraulic press, bearing separator, press beds, sockets, tubing, rebuild kit, bearings, dial indicator, etc. and Sean can bring the endplay too.

Bring all the beer you think it requires and we'll help walk you through it. We'll know by then whether or not we recommend our own work.

We did a 'reverse' twice - first try putting the case together we let the reverse/5-6 shift rod get twisted and drop off the #156 Plate, Interlock. So fixed that and then had to chase a case thread to install the #45 and #46 Bolt, Shift Lever Guide while simultaneously lifting the reverse/5-6 shift rod to line everything up.

Plan is to get it in the car this weekend and let it run on jackstands before dyno on the 14th.

I did not, Corvette is still in the trailer until my flipper car sells. Kinda hard to not make money on a free car. From there I won't order parts until I tear it down which I anticipate will be much before June. I know I'm in it for 2nd gear, blocker ring, and 1-2 synchro hub. I'll likely do 3-4 syncs ad well. Gonna need wave washers, snap rings, probably do keys, definitely fork pads, plus whatever else is worn. That car has 120k on it.

Took the 55 to TWS today and ran it for 15 to 20 minutes (yep 4.5 hours round trip). Ran perfect. Only difference in the car from when it bent the intake valves and melted the plugs last Oct. is the fuel and two steps colder plugs. I have no idea what octane was brought to me at Hallett that we put in the car after R4 then loaded it on the trailer but I know it had 93 in it today and it ran perfect. Last Oct. it messed up by T6 on the second lap first session out. I hate that it happened but hope it was just low octane fuel and not a problem waiting to return.

I know you're not a big fan of carrying a ton of fuel on the trailer, but just being able to get four jugs to the track would save you a lot of running around and depending on local fuel supply. I myself have a 6 jug rack simply because I don't want to risk getting crappy fuel in OK, and being in Houston I get the best prices down here than anywhere else. I usually end up having enough fuel for three days with a little leftover that I just dump in the truck's tank.

Just depends on how they were cared for and stored. My very first engine start wouldn't happen until I had them cleaned out big time, completely clogged. Had them cleaned again when I found junk from the 20yr old factory supply line was clogging them back up again.

I would to learn more about injectors if anybody is in the know. After Sean's hydraulic lock from a stuck open injector, I am thinking replacing malfunctioning injectors with new ones is the safest way to go. My only experience is with a low miles engine that had been sitting long enough for the gas in the rail to go bad. It wouldn't run without replacing the injectors.
