My oldest son Gavin (7) will be with me starting this season to "enjoy" the track experience. My current accomodations may not be there, so I was wondering if anyone:

1. Has a spot for 2 in a RV?
2. Willing to give us some room in an enclosed trailer to spread out an air mattress. (will bring a heater).

All else failes, we can stay at the La Tahoe Inn...

Meh. A few people came and checked it out but I think most people think road racing only exists in video games and everything with a wing is just a ricer. Didn't help that the track was so cold that the best short time I could manage was a 2.6 which made for a 14.7 et, but at 101mph. Couldn't even roll into first without spinning.

I did see some dude taking pics of his girlfriend posing next to it though.

The best part was after I took the turnout and one of the track workers told me "there's more than one turnoff and I don't have to try and make the first one".

LOL

The last time I ran was at Kennedale 1/8 mile.

That was because at the end, there was this T7 @ TWS type turn. I would stand on the brakes, make the turn and launch off of it.

Was asked to slow down on the return road. Told them that was the fun part.

Mine had been installed for years. That wasn't the issue.
Yesterday about 3-4pm we decided to try and test the electrical since the whole car was a re-wire (excluding the motor harness). Everything was going perfect until we tried to strat it. No start. Turns over fine. 12v on every wire and no spark at the plugs. Coil check showed no trigger command from the PCM. By shear dumb luck I was I was looking for the PCM power wire and another wire pulled right out of the PCM connector. After de-pinning the connector, it was obvious that the pin was very poorly crimped and this was the reason the wire pulled out so easily. I soldered it on, re-installed it, and the car fired first try. Not bad for a complete re-wire.
This is the second wire I had pull out of the pin on this harness. The first one I wrote off as a fluke, now I'm calling it a piss poor product. I only live 10-15 minutes from thier office. I should drop by and give them a ear full.

Lucky stiff. I put the 17 shell on the curb and a neighbor called some buddies to come grab it. I can't justify the risk of cutting a tire on the truck or trailer at the scrap yard for the $50 or $60 that it would have brought. Plus, the last two times I tried to go on Saturday morning, I found a locked gate at 10 am with a sign that said "Open Saturdays 8-Noon."

Glenn,
If steroid nasal sprays (Nasonex, Veramist, Patanase, Flonase) don't "help" any, but you can kick the shit out of it with Afrin, then YES, you could benefit from it.

My issue was I slowly became immune to all the steroid sprays. Tried each one of the above. They would work for a while and then stop working. Once I couldn't get any relief from any of them we had the "it's time for surgery" talk.

Here's the doc's info:

Surgery isn't too bad... Feel like crap the day of and then half the next day. Back to work two days later. Stints in your nose for a week and a half bugs the crap out of you, but doesn't hurt. You'll have "dry nose" for three months afterwards so you will need to keep saline spray close by (or get nose bleeds).

Me too but I use two or three times a day and have for twenty years. I have some in the M/H, my truck, my desk and at home. I have a deviated septum (sp) on the left side and when the air gets full (ike now) I'm in trouble.

Guys, unfortunately using Afrin daily for 2+ years is what ultimately put me in my current position. If you abuse Afrin (more than 3 days in a row), you risk rebound

Rebound Congestion & Rhinitis Medicamentosa

Rhinitis Medicamentosa (nasal spray addiction as a result of rebound congestion) is caused by the prolonged use of Afrin and other over-the-counter decongestant nasal sprays. The active ingredient in these sprays is a topical vasoconstrictor that temporarily reduces the size of the nasal turbinates, opens the nasal airway and provides decongestant relief from the rebound congestion.

When the decongestants are used for more than 3 consecutive days, it provokes a condition known as rebound congestion

Rebound congestion is the result of abnormal swelling and enlargement (hypertrophy) of the nasal mucosa, which blocks the nasal airway completely and causes extreme discomfort. This rebound congestion is temporarily relieved once again by the administration of another dose of Afrin or other nasal spray.

As soon as the temporary effect of the last dose of spray wears off, the swollen nasal mucosa again block the airway and another dose of spray is required to provide relief. The commencement of this cycle represents the initiation of the addiction.

Afrin nasal spray addiction can (and often does) last a lifetime. Rhinostat has documented many cases of individuals who reported that they have been addicted to Afrin and other nasal sprays for more than forty years.

Because the nasal spray itself is the root cause of the problem, the only effective way to eliminate it is to discontinue the use of the sprays.

As any person that has suffered with rhinitis medicamentosa will tell you, this is much easier said than done. Breaking this addiction is not simply a matter of will power. The ability to breathe comfortably is essential to normal human functionality.

Only a small percentage of these people (less than 4%, according to our research) are able to endure the misery associated with "cold turkey" withdrawal. Unable to sleep, eat, work or socialize comfortably, the large majority of these people simply return to the use of the spray to end their misery.

Implications For Persons Addicted to Afrin & Nasal Sprays

It is not uncommon for these people to keep their problem a secret from their families, co-workers, friends and even their physicians. They excuse themselves from social settings, wake up in the middle of the night and learn how to integrate the use of the sprays into their daily routines, in solitude.

They keep a bottle of Afrin in their pocket or purse, their nightstand, glove box, backpack, attaché case and anywhere else necessary to ensure that it is readily available when needed.

Addicted persons often stock up, plan ahead and buy in volume (when on sale.) They know every retail store in their neighborhood that carries the product. Some may even rotate the places they go to purchase it, so as not to reveal their addiction to sales clerks. They often purchase other items along with the sprays to draw attention away from the item.

They may not be experts in chemistry, but they know the name of the active ingredient in their particular spray. Oxymetazoline, Phenylepherine or Xylometazoline. Regardless of the specific brand, they always select a spray with the correct compound. Unless they have a very sympathetic and supportive spouse or partner, they buy their own sprays.

The prospect of things such as surgical anesthesia, a camping trip to an isolated location or an ocean cruise (where they have no easy and immediate access to the nasal sprays) is a nightmare.

Many of these people tell us that nasal spray addiction is the most miserable and frustrating problem they have ever dealt with. This entire physiologic and psychological phenomenon is something that Rhinostat is intimately familiar with and it remains the subject of our focused research.

How Physicians Treat Rebound Congestion & Rhinitis Medicamentosa

In search of an answer, many of these patients turn to their physicians for help in ending nasal spray addiction.

Rhinitis Medicamentosa is a very frustrating problem for physicians to effectively treat. There are no FDA approved drugs nor therapies specifically for the treatment of RM patients. Most commonly, these patients are given a course of intranasal and/or systemic steroids and are told to discontinue their use of the decongestants. In some cases, surgery to reduce the turbinates or to correct a deviated septum is performed.

Regardless of what treatment is prescribed, the cornerstone of the therapy is always the same. Patients must discontinue their use of the sprays. It is this aspect of the treatment that presents the problem for these patients.

I use prescription Rhinoquart to keep from getting (more) flare ups. It is non steroid and coats the nasal passage to keep it from getting inflamed. If I use it every day as directed I keep the flares up controllable. Still get 2 or 3 sinus infections a year though.

Wow, I have been there before. Luckily I have never been to the point where I had to use it longer than a month during alergy season. There was a time about 10-15 years ago from April to June (alergies) where I would not leave the house without it. In fact, I still have a bottle in my desk at work, at home, and one I travel with, but I have only used it once in the last year or so. I can see how so many people get hooked on it.

1. Insalled new AI windshield banner
2. Welded up a cool shirt cooler "cage" and welded it into the spare tire well
3. Installed new SFI padding on the roll cage
4. Fixed a broken rivet in the splitter and re-aligned the front lip with a 2-lb sledge hammer.
5. Got the cool shirt wiring about 50% done.
6. Brought out the helmet blower, but didn't get anything done with its install...

Forty pounds so far, but there was a barbell weight that was being used for ballast, so the first 25lbs was easy.

I bought an angle grinder to remove the welded in passenger seat brackets and found out three things:

1. You can use brown paper to protect the wiring

2. Lots of sparks, but the grinding disc will not catch brown paper on fire

3. The cutoff wheel will! ;)

I'm hoping to park the trailer near my pit stall at TWS so that I can run an extension cord to it. Do you think it's worth getting some 1x2" boards for each side of the extension cord or are they pretty tough with regard to cars running over them?

I have done that and had an extension cord cut in half from race tires sticking to it. I would suggest just hooking it up at night when the race cars aren't driving over it. Don't know what all you are running in the trailer but its easy to trip a breaker on the outlets.

Packing the old suitcase for a trip to lovely Istanbul, Turkey.... Uggg.
I'll spend 30 hours either flying or waiting in an airport for a three hour meeting. Wonderful way to spend your time. Unfortunately a F1 gran-prix is not wrapped around this "beauty". My flight gets in at 7:30pm on Thursday, so after being up for 24 hours, I'll get 6 hours sleep before heading to pickup the car and head to TWS. Red-Bull will be my friend! I'm going to the shop tomorrow for one last "thrash" before heading to the airport.

See you guys in six short days. Hope you all had a great Easter.

Unfortunately I can't get out of the meeting. Already tried once to delegate and the customer said they wanted me there... oh well. Just got to the hotel after traveling for 19 hours... It's 7pm here (10am TX). I'll be fine for the weekend, but just may lay off the alcohol, as that will just set me back.

The car however, will come off the trailer as it was loaded after MSR-C. The only things done were some wiring updates and new roll bar padding. Everything "should" be fine, as it was running "okay" at Cresson.

See you guys around noon on Friday.

Trend? It doesn't have to be expensive. My first/current one was done in '04 (based on David Coulthard's design) and has lasted fairly well until now. I taped up both of these helmets and Costas had a guy shoot the blue and yellow for cheap, no clear. The rest I did in vinyl. I know a vinyl guy now *cough*Wade*cough*.

I used my Monday night to tear down the motor. After all my issues, I needed to see what was going on first hand, especially in the valve train. The good news is that after pulling the heads there was no valve contact with the pistons. A second check on the cam seems to suggest all is a go. That basically helps me confirm that my valve train issues are a carryforward from my valve cover clearance issue on first start. I did lose a lifter, but all else looks good. So, if I can figure out how to re-install my heads and re-lash the rocker arms, I should be good for Hallett (knock on wood).

It's true - she definitely has a problem. Can't stop thinking / talking about racing. Turns out she has more of a one-track mind about this stuff than I do. For practice, she late-apexed the driveway yesterday and is actually improving my rating on iRacing. Crap.

I blame you Rob Liebbe - you planted the seed, handed me a water jug right in front of her, and said "make sure he uses this". Ergh....maybe it was a beer....I don't remember now but I still blame you. Dave Neary - you're not off the hook either...she actually likes Mustangs now which was never something I had to worry about before. In all seriousness though thanks for all for the support and good times - nothing else I'd rather be doing.

In other news, my car is ready to go except for the rearend. Posi and gears were completely trashed in race 1 at TWS. Can't complain too much though - bone stock rearend with 160,000 miles and 4 years of track abuse with 400+ horsepower. Should've died a long, long time ago. Got all the parts ordered today (Auburn racer's diff, 3.73s, new bearings / seals, etc.) and should be ready to go for Hallett. First performance upgrade I've done in years. Need all the help I can get...horsepower won't save me at Hallett like it did at TWS.

I was actually about to buy a new lift from Gemini Lifts in Dallas ($1600) but one of the places that I worked at in College Station just out of college (Pro Car) went out of business and I got these two Weaver 7000# two-post lifts for $200 each(!). I recommend that you do your homework on any lift you consider. Some of the Chinese made lifts can be dangerous are routinely overrated. Look at the arm attachment points and the trunion to be sure these are heavy gauge steel. I've been acquiring the equipment over the last 8 months and have found very good bargains. Do not pay more than $1000 for a used lift as very good new ones can be had for about $600-700 more. The tire machine was a chance find in South Houston. I was looking for a used tire for the trailer and saw this machine in the back of the shop covered with tires. I asked if it was for sale and wound up paying about $400 for it. They were not using any more because it couldn't do 24" wheels! I don't plan to EVER own a vehicle with 24" wheels unless it is a tractor trailer rig.

That's pretty nasty. How free is it to move? How are you going to put it back into the correct location before securing it?

I'd strongly suggest a welded repair. A bolted connection through the local sheet metal is likely to wallow out again pretty quickly and make future additional repairs much more difficult...

Sam- Is a tarantula really that big of a deal in CS that you have to call someone from TAMU? Why did you have to wear gloves or why weren't you wearing your racing gloves? Real men like myself and Tommy from CO just pick them up with our hands and let them crawl on our arms at Hallett. But maybe the researchers at TAMU will need some more specimens so bring your work gloves and containers next weekend as I'm sure you will find some up there. Are you going to shower at Hallett with steel toe work boots and those same gloves too?

Here is the rule:

7.34 Torque Box Repair
All cars are allowed to repair or reconstruct the rear lower control arm body attachment points within the following restrictions:
1.The attachment point must remain in the OEM Stock location and maintain the same geometry.
2. All additional reinforcement material or welding of existing material must be within 12” of the centerline of the mounting point hole.
3. None of the additional reinforcement may penetrate the floorpan or enter the interior of the car.
4. None of the additional reinforcement may attach directly to the rollcage or rollcage mounting points
Ford cars are additionally allowed to completely weld the rear upper control arm body attachment points within the following restrictions:
1.The attachment point must remain in the OEM Stock location and maintain the same geometry.
2. All welding of the existing material must be within 10” of the centerline of the mounting point hole.

Rob, after seeing what mine did I would HIGHLY recommend every Mustang driver do preventative maintenance and install the upper and lower kit before anything goes bad. I know this is not currently in the rules but it needs to be.

Richard is correct in every kit I've seen has some form of bracketry / welding done inside the car.

The kit I have in transit right now has interior brackets and I'm pretty certain it still will need additional bracketry, drilling, welding, etc to get mine back to solid.
I found out yesterday evening that my upper passenger side box is trashed worse than the lower drivers. The 3-link is putting a crazy amount of stress on the lone upper arm.

Here is a video showing the splitting on the lower drivers torque box and the seperation on the passenger upper box.
Sorry the video is 90 degrees off.

Here is a link detailing the install of the repair kit.

Last weekend Sam and I got to replace the 50gal water heater that was slowly dieing in our attic. The pilot light wouldn't stay lit and there was always 1/2" of water in the drip pan. So rather than have 50gal of water come through our ceiling. We went ahead and get a new one with a 11year warranty. <--the catch is you have to take the entire water heater back to Lowes, which means taking it out of the attic. :(

The hardest part was getting the thing up the narrow stairs with me trying to lift from the top and Sam from the bottom... there aren't handles on water heaters and I am not very strong, so Sam did a lot of dead lifting over his head.

Now we have to figure out how to get the old heater out of our attic... it might just stay for a while... :/

Delay in update from this weekend:
Took the car to Mitch and Glenn's to fix the torque box problems on Saturday. The drivers lower and passenger upper was A LOT more tweaked than expected. Glenn and Mitch did an amazing job relocating the mounts back to the stock location and getting everything welded up!!! Everything is now in the correct position and lines up great.
We ended up not installing the kit at this time and the directors will discuss the rule and determine what wording needs to be changed.

Thanks again to Glenn and Mitch for their help!! I was pretty freaked out last week when I noticed the problem but now am just ready for Hallett. You guys rock!!

My ex-father in law had four in his attic. Just way too hard to get them out...

Now we have to figure out how to get the old heater out of our attic... it might just stay for a while... :/

Our old house in Lewisville had the water heater in the attic. That was the first house we bought in TX after moving from CA, and we were amazed building codes allowed them to be in the attic - a burst water heater would be a nightmare. We were fortunate that it never needed replacement before we sold that house and moved to Flower Mound.

I don't envy anyone having to deal with one of those beasts.

Fixed my cool suit and tested it only to find a horrific fuel leak when I flipped on the powah. The leak is under the car near the trans... strange cause it wasn't leaking at TWS or when it was unloaded to where it sits now. :scratches head: Looks like I'll be repairing some fuel hard lines tonight.

I haven't been under the car yet, but the passenger side of the exhaust was soaked just forward of the trans cross member.

Any tips or suggestions?

Left the truck at the shop. Originally went just for an alignment but when they showed me the upper ball joint slop..."Holy sh!t" was heard through the whole shop. No time to fix myself, so I left it. Not even safe to drive, much less tow 1k miles this weekend.
