I think I solved my flame thrower when I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and O2 sensors. It hasn't seem to do it as much this year.

Took the little one to Sea World with the grandparents. Hot as hell all day long but it was worth it to see him jump to his feet and clap when Shamu jumped up out of the water during the show and say "thats amazing"(he'll be two next month). Guess momma staying at home is paying off. The heat sapped him pretty good though. He slept the entire 4.5 hours back from grandma and grandpas house.

Last Thursday after almost 25 years of being hooked on Afrin I had nasal surgery to fix a deviated septum among other things. Let me tell you this SUCKS! DON'T DO IT! Yesterday I had to go get the tubes and stints out and in ten days I get to go back for the first of two cleanings. When they tell you to first take 2 10 mg Valium, plus two Vicodin pain pills at the same time before you come in for this BS you know it's going to suck. They tell you not to sneeze.....well last night about three twenty AM I found out why. Hope this is all worth it.

Jerry, I've had the procedure done twice... The stints are amazingly annoying after a week (my doc's normal timing). I did figure out how to gently blow my nose through/around them to releive some of the "crap" clogged 9 miles up in my nasal cavity. I didn't have any of the cleanings that you mentioned, just a bunch of saline rinses which are now part of my nightly ritual to keep the allergens flushed out of my nose. Blowing your nose is an art form when you learn to divert 90% through your mouth and spare only 10% for your nose in those "tender" days...

My wife had that surgery done ~20 years ago, and it was the biggest mistake she's ever made (marrying me not withstanding). We didn't find out until many, many years later that now she essentially has no septum, as the surgeon didn't perform the surgery properly.

Not fun.....

Just sat through a 3 hour sales pitch for replacement windows for my house.

It was the same process like when purchasing a car.
Salesman has to go through sales manager, then credit manager, etc.

Started out at $14K. No.
$11.5K. No.
$10.4K with 0% interest @ 60 months. No.

What will it take?

$8K - 0% - 60 months - no minimum monthly -

$8.5K? No.

Cya ... I bet they call back.

Just found out today when trying to file a hail claim for 26-May that my homeowners policy was cancelled on 22-May. Apparently I didn't pay my renewal notice that I never received. They have apparently sent three pieces of mail to me over the last 8 weeks regarding my policy. I never received any of them... I called and pitched the "I've been with you guys for auto and homeowner's for 8 years and have never missed a payment. Throw me a bone please". They won't renew since they now know I have hail damage and won't pick me back up until I fix my 8-10K roof damage... However, they have raised it to a higher level of management to see if they can make an exception since I never received the notices. Grrrrr. :(

Salvaged 800-900 lbs of bare copper ($3 per pound) over the last two days. I have a 5 gallon bucket full of brass (.60 per pound) and about another 200lbs of brass stacked 6-7 ft tall. Another 5 gallon bucket full of aluminum and a few large parts that don't fit in a bucket. 1/2 a 5 gallon bucket of stainless (?? per pound). I figure $3K in scrap I hope to dump early next week.

All this was collected over the last 2 weeks.

Dealer in Georgetown gets four in on Tue. and now two of them are sold. It's crazy to pay that much for a scooter but it worse to pay $1500-1900 for a used one with two thousand miles. Hey Guys

I'm at Mid Ohio race track attending their driving school. These guys have a great program with lots of track time. Price is right too. Also, as a bonus, my buddy lives one mile from the track so no lodging or car rental. So low cost and I get to visit a long-time friend.

Anyway, running on this track was always on my bucket list. Glad I did it. The track is very Cresson like with lots of hills and off-camber turns. Woo-hoo!

Good question. Mainly, if I can't get my shit running for a full weekend at TWS, I won't have enough races to qualify. Plus work had been crazy so getting the time off could be a challenge. The thought is there, though. If it doesn't work out this year, next year is a definite.

Maybe it's just me, but are those images upside down? If not, you're calipers are installed wrong...the bleeder valve should be on TOP.

I've cracked rotors that badly before.....it's not so unusual. Given that you're using 4-piston calipers, and likely larger pads, you'll be putting more heat into the rotors.

Recheck your brake duct system. It may be time to move to a set of 2-piece rotors. The stock Cobra units are relatively thin compared to the heavier duty 2-piece units. I don't know if I'd jump right into a set of StopTech's, but definitely consider better rotors.

Wait, what!?! Brake fluid is lighter than air right? Ergo, the low-side bleeders...

j/k

The wilwoods are universal from side to side so there's a pair of bleeders up top too.

The rotors have had a full life including ECR last year, Houston, TWS & Hallett... plus some testing. I think it was just their time. Only Hallett was on the wilwoods though. I'll be paying close attention to how long a new set of cobra rotors lasts, it's possible my rotor expense may go up. I hope not, a big factor in switching calipers was long term cost savings. Time will tell.

So is the fluid cross-over passage internal to the caliper? I always thought the 2nd set of ports had a crossover tube in them and you just swapped the tube and bleeders to be correct for whicherver side you were putting them on.

I took a glider ride in Durango yesterday. Tow let us off at 7500 ft. (field ele. 6500) and we took the thermals to 12.300 feet. Way cool. Jay and I have done this many times but yesterday was one of the best days I've had in a sailplane. We were up just over an hour and could have stayed up all day.

If you ever get to Durango look this place up.
www.soardurango.com

We are in Ouray now for most of the week. It was 52 degrees this morning in Durango and it's 66 right now at 11:50 (MDT) in Ouray.

Sam, when I get back I will get with you on the rotors. I found some directional veined rotors not made in China for around $50.00. I broke two in one day just like that after races at ECR. 15 min. after the race we heard a ping and five minutes later another. Two rotors cracked just like that. If my new found rotor does not do better I will get a set of hats from Todd at TCE and rings from Coleman. Adam is right the two piece cools better you can go thicker with the new calipers.

Just as an FYI, my Stoptech rotors look better after their 5 events so far than the 13" Cobra rotors looked after 1 day. The Cobra rotors almost instantly got the super-small cracks that slowly grew larger over 2-3 events before cracking.

I also think Marshall has about 10 events over the last 3-4 years on his "used" Stoptech rotors. He also has a 4-hour enduro and 6 1/2 hours (from the 8 hour enduro).
It is a large expense up front but I am completely sold on them.

At Cal Speedway this weekend, I had to swap tires around (destroyed my RF)....while the car was in the air, I did my usual inspection. The StopTech rotors look miles better than any of my previous rotors did, even the nifty Coleman 2-piece units.

Cal Speedway is somewhat similar to TWS, in that we use the entire NASCAR front straight, plus NASCAR 1 and 2.....~5400rpm, top of 5th gear, foot flat to the floor entering T3 (somewhere around ~135mph), heavy braking down to about ~60mph. The StopTechs were there each, and every time, with no funny business. I could outbrake other drivers.

As Michael said, heavy up-front expense, but damn, they are good.

We bought my 9 year old daughter Jaycie a wakeboard a couple of weeks ago. She has been on about three different times now. She got up on it her very first time and road until she got tired.

I on the other hand, can not get my fat butt up on that board.

This was a video Kendra shot yesterday of Jaycie wakeboarding.

She started skiing at age 7, but just started wakeboarding. She said she has to change he lead foot, because she doesn't want to cross the wake yet. She started doing it her first time up.

I have never wakeboarded, so I have been no help in telling her what to do.

There are some decent "How to Wakeboard" videos. Can probably find enough of them on youtube by now. How fast are you going and how long is the rope? This ain't racing so you can slow down. I think the rope needs to be shorter. She just needs more time playing around on it mainly. Looks like she needs to lean away from the boat a little more and put more weight on the back foot. She will get more comfortable and stable and then be able to hold the rope where she needs to.
And those things are easy to get up on. You do have the board perpinducular to the boat and rope when starting out?

If there is another race in August next year I say we all just go to the lake instead.

I was told to pull at around 10mph... which is way slower than she ski's. Yep, she starts out on her back with the board up a few inches out of the water.

I have shortened the rope from it's original length thinking it was too long, but don't really know how short to make it.

Amen on the August race....

Sam, and others. What are your thoughts on the accuracy of the dyno at TWS? I know there was though that it was reading a bit high at the April event.
I will not have a chance to dyno my car before Friday and can either Dyno at the track and do a 1/2 day of testing, or dyno elsewhere and most likely do no testing. I'd like to test if at all possible b/c of my front strut change and fact that I didn't get to run CW last year b/c of the broken collar bone.

I just don't want to screw myself with a 260 hp dyno that is really 250.
Thoughts?

*shrugs shoulders* That's quite the dilemma.

If his dyno is high:

1.) You dyno at the track - you race with less power than others, but if you get hit with a protest or random 'Glenn-picks-you' dyno check, you're ok and they get DQs.

B) You dyno elsewhere - you race with comparable power, but you risk the DQ.

Bag of worms opened.

I would think if you dyno on a reputable dyno and go over at TWS (doesn't seem reliable), that you would have the opportunity to recertify at your earlier dyno to prove numbers.
Sam, is your cert from TWS? If so then I would feel pretty good about it. I felt that in April you, Glenn, and myself were virtually identical down the main straight.

We were gonna allow Wade to go back to his cert dyno, but it turns out that TWS was the cert dyno. So he was over on the dyno he certed on. I don't really think that dyno is wrong.

Negative, my dyno was from our Houston Dyno Day (the shop was PSI I think). I actually think their dyno was low... i hadn't changed anything from my 260/294 set up last year and I dyno'd 251/293. I just left it and figured if I got killed on the straits, I'd add some timing and redyno. I'm not getting pulled, so I figure I'm on par with last years numbers. PSI's dyno actually broke at the end of our session there.

My old 86 GT street car with a Vortech supercharger (375rwhp/385rwtq) had the ORIGINAL T5 that survived 100k miles before the engine was upgraded, then survived another ~20k miles after the blower was installed before finally giving up. Another T5 was installed, and last I heard from the owner, it was still going strong.

The CMC car has had three T5's in 8 years of racing - the one it came with (was questionable when I got the car, and was only used for one weekend), a second that lived for 3 seasons before breaking at MSRC, and a Liberty's Gear replacement that lasted for another 4 seasons. Upon pulling the bellhousing, flywheel and clutch, I discovered why the second T5 broke - the input shaft bearing installed by the PO was an old school brass unit (instead of the proper late model roller job) that had become oblong, allowing the input shaft to move around.

T5's can live a long time in our environment (Richard P is a perfect example), but you have to get your shifts right. An improper downshift (operator error) with lots of axle hop is not good for longevity.

No, I thought about it, but didn't want it to snowball. Figured I could use a 4th gen hub, but then I'd probably want to use a 4th gen 16x8 wheel for the correct backspacing, but since I'd be using a 4th gen wheel, may as well step up to a 17x9.5, and since I'd now have 17's, there's no reason not to get a big 13" brake kit with 4 pots... just too much money for me.

I really did think about using a worn out 4th gen spindle, even throwing on a worn LS1 rotor I have (and figure a way to mount a busted caliper on it), but then the weight started to really add up. The actual hurdle for making it spin was how do you keep it from unwinding on the compressor side when you roll it up. Only thing I came up with was you'd have to do some sort of short hose from the compressor to the center of the mount, with some sort of 90* swivel end.

That said I will have to see how much of the helicopter tab Blue Cross Blue Shield picks up. I think it is safe to say that I will not be coming to ECR in Oct. John,
I can completely understand. When my middle son was about 18 months, my wife was working nights at the hospital and I was home with my two boys (3-Gavin, 18mo-Gage). Gage was eating diced carrots and peas. One of them was "inhaled" and got stuck somewhere in his wind pipe. His breathing became VERY labored. Our neighbor was a nurse and I had her come look at him and her words were, "You need to get the the ER... and fast". I broke so many traffic laws on that drive. Thank god the roads were clear and 90 in a 30 felt "okay". However, I only ended up in an ambulance ride from Denton to Cooks Childrens in Ft. Worth. BC/BS didn't pick up crap ($250) of the $800 ambulance bill. I ended up with the rest out of pocket. Long story short, while at Cooks, Gage coughed "just right" during an X-ray and swallowed the food particle that was causing the problem.

It definately makes you feel like everything is on borrowed time, as we ultimately have NO control on when it's "our time". Cherish the time you do have... as you never know what tomorrow holds.

I'm glad that everything is okay with the little guy...

On a side note, Careflight has a supplemental insurance plan for something like $49/year and covers your entire family. I have it through work, but think you can also pick it up directly with them. They even send a b-day card to everyone each year.

Just got off the phone with the insurance company and got some good news. We only have to meet our yearly out of pocket deductible for Broday and then they pick up the remainder since it was emergency services. Reall glad I have good insurance. I am sure there will be a few billing hiccups but thats a lot better than I was expecting. I had heard horror stories that I would get stuck with the entire careflight bill.

The out of pocket will definitely eat up my ECR budget and then some but I am 99.9% sure I can still make TWS as long as I catch up on the "honey do" list! :)

That was awesome! I can tell you that the hay bales waaaayyyy off track at the last corner can get big in a hurry.
Yes it was and yes they do... I made a run for the hay bales during my first hot lap in Q2, left the track with my tail tucked and an extra 50lbs of mud on the car. I think a black/red new edge mustang found the hay bales the next lap, no names.

That was a fun weekend - I was pretty good everywhere except T10 and T11 - kept thinking I could put the power down sooner than I should.
I think I have video somewhere of me doing a 720 coming out of T10 right down the middle of the track and then off at T11, spinning through the mud and coming out to continue...the entire underside of the car was pancaked in mud as I found out later, but no black flag so I continued.
Came back around T10 next lap and I repeated the 720 but this time I managed to get it under control just before T11 and wound up pointing in the right direction going into T11, stayed on the track and continued.

For an encore later on I spun on the front straight, got stuck facing the hill and inched my way back out...I think I saw the spectators do the wave a couple of times :)

So 2 official offs, but no tow no foul ? Muddy mess but it was fun.

Had a good day at the dyno. After 10 pulls trying to figure out why the MAF voltage was pegging at idle ended up being a bad jumper harness from Granatelli... Oh well. Fixed that and we were off and running. Ended up tuning to 381/395 before checking to see if SAE Smoothing 5 was selected. Of course, they are running their dyno on STD so it looks better for their customers. As soon as it was "reset", that number dropped to 347/359. We started pulling timing from the high points and ended up at 316/335 for my cert pulls. Water temps were 180/210/210, so it was representative of what I'm going to run on track. Also, it was pull #22-24 for the cert, so the motor and driveline were WELL warmed up.

So, my new minimum weight is 3015. I'm expecting 2 45lb elevator plates to be added for ECR.

I love me an "animal style' In-n-Out double double from time to time but I find the hype here in Texas just ridiculous and an indication of one of a number of things (just how lemming-like people can be, how the pace of transplants (yes I am one - but my son reminds me all the time that he is a Native Texan :) ) has increased over the last few years - used to be just N. Dallas but now FW is seeing it too)...I hate lines of any sort and a 2+ hour line for a pint size burger with just-OK fixin's is just silly - same people that want to pay more taxes I suppose.
One of my clients HAS to stop at that place everytime we are in SoCal but there really are no lines there...it really is in-and-out even at a busy time of day.
I like 5 guys burgers better than In-N-Out and I like Whataburger as far as a "fast burger" better than either of those. My favorites in town include Kincaids, Dunston's, Scotty P's...several others that had great burgers but went out of business include Rooty's (about 10 years ago) and Island Burgers (I heard there is one around town but have not found it).
But if you want the BEST burger in DFW - heck, anywhere in my not so humble opinion ;) - come by Casa del Calder. Maybe for ECR I should add some 'Calder Dubbles' to the menu...double patty "sewn" together with onions, mozza, pepperoni inside, wrapped in bacon and topped with cheddar - the burger meat mix is a secret family recipe but includes fresh ground rosemary from our garden. ;)

Put new front hubs on the M3 this weekend; you would think the Germans could design something that would last more than 233k miles.

I think in Japan (spent 1.5 years there), it was at one time required to have your mirrors up there. The also had to have little lights up there that flashed w/ the turn signal so you would see when you left it on. You see this alot over there - mostly on older cars.

Was that because it was faster on the track on sorry tires than your race car? Sold my 5 series on ebay a few weeks ago, too. But I would have kept a E46 M3 unless it was to get a newer M3 or M5.

Just had EFI Live installed on my truck. I'm betting its faster than my race car now. It will hit the dyno with the race car next year. I know it will double the torque of the race car but the goal will be to double the hp but that won't be till the tranny gets built.

What I tell my students is, "You paid to use the track. Use everything from one side to the other for turn-in, apex, and track-out..." Also, don't overdrive and be a hero, the track and car will come to you in small incriments.

All I did was pick up a transmission jack, those stupid t56s are heavy.

Well......this is bad news for me, if I can ever find the time to fix the car and do the upgrades for the duece that is. Awesome job Mindy. There's gonna be a lot of mid pack slackers in trouble here pretty quick.

Pulled the rear end out from under the car; half expecting to find REALLY ugly stuff.

Bad news is there is NO vent at all in the housing. Certainly helps explain the smoking.

Good news is the rear end was relatively full of fluid, and both the ring and pinion gears look good, and I don't feel any slop and no noise to speak of.

The real question is whether I risk messing with the pinion seal since the vent was missing entirely. I'm leaning toward cleaning it up, putting in a brass nipple for a vent hose per several recommendations and moving forward.

So now the winter review continues with one T56 locked in gear and one that won't go into gear.

I'm used to cheering for hopeless causes (Astros, Texans in previous years, Clemson in previous years, Rockets, etc) so what's adding one more to the list going to do? ;)

I feel your pain Wayne!!
Being a Texas Tech fan and Cowboys fan can be brutal. Watching Tech feels like watching a team full of Tony Romo's.
How can a team beat OU in Norman one week and then get blasted by a crappy Iowa State the next week at home?????????
Very FRUSTRATING!!!!

Took my youngest to school this morning, in a rented BWM 328i. 6:30am, wide open parking lot, no one around. Doughnut time! Shortly thereafter, he posted the following message on FB:

When we lived in TX, during one of the winter ice storms, I can recall taking my wife's full sized conversion van out in our cul-de-sac, with Seth riding shotgun (he was 12/13 or so at the time), and doing many, many doughnuts. Neighbors thought I was nuts (not that I can argue). Seth enjoyed it thoroughly.

So did I.

And all this time I thought those spins at Cresson were just poor driving ability.

Oh hell no. It took years of careful, calculated practice to get them just right.

I did doughnuts in my work parking lot with my 91 Mustang until the kids got car-sick. It was awesome.

Found this road by accident while working out in Hanford, CA. Took the kids up to see the Sequoia's. Had two kids throwing up in the back seat of the BMW 325i convertible about 2 miles into it.

My little soccer play Jaycie had her last game of the season and they won the U11 Championship with an undefeated season. She scored one of the teams two goals today and scored at least one goal per game with mutliple goals in a few games.

Good to see some organizations still keep score, and good to see the winning gene runs deep in the Proctor family.

Nice season and soccer style with the shades and mismatched socks. JP-I think you should get your old man to paint the #28 to match their uniforms.

Took the vette to Cars/Coffee this weekend. I'm considering just doing show car show stuff and maybe a day at the dragstrip, autocross or roadcourse. I slaved all weekend repairing/cleaning the trailer and getting the race car put away for another winter project. I enjoyed the car show alot more than scraping the lap sealant on the roof to replace the busted vent. Anyone wanna buy a hail damaged enclosed trailer?
