I spent half the day removing a leaking hydraulic fan and power steering unit on our Jeep Grand Cherokee. That's right, a leaking fan. I had a noise that I thought was in the front diff (that is covered for 100,000 miles) so I took it to the dealer. They called to say it was not the diff but the power steering pump and the engine fan was leaking??????? I never heard of such a thing. They wanted $2700.00 to replace the fan unit and the power steering pump (noisy). I told them to pound sand and decided to do it myself. What a BITCH! I got it all off but going back together is not going to be fun. Anyone ever hear of a kit to convert to an electric fan? Looks like they only use this set-up with the 4.7 H/O with towing package.

I stumbled on a similar step when redoing the timing belt/water pump on a Lexus SC400. Hydraulic powered coolant fan. Electric seems like it would be so much simpler

That's crazy Jerry. My dad's 4.7 in his dakota has an engine driven fan off water pump pulley...just screws on. Then has a supplementary electric for when the a/c is on. You might look into that setup if the centerline of the fan would line up! I think all the water pump pulley's on the 4.7's and 3.7's all have the threads for that fan to screw right on.
