Racing Video Games

I have heard some talk about people playing video games to improve their driving skills and possibly learn new tracks? I think Jay told me you could download tracks and practice that track? I would like to learn Hallett before arriving and would like to know if this is possible, a good idea, and what is required.

I've never heard of HMRC ported to any game.
There should be a Friday practice day.
Very reasonable fee.

Unless you have an expensive real racing simulator like this one in your garage - http://www.force-dynamics.com/401/ - don't expect racing video games to improve your driving skills - in fact some might have the opposite effect?

Having said that, they are still fun to play with, and they could be useful for basic track familiarisation if they had ours tracks available?

I don't know of any games/simulators available for use at home with Hallett - if anyone has digitized Hallett, it would be these guys - http://motorsportsimulators.com/ - they are local to the area and I know they have Cresson and TWS programmed already. Plonk down around $13,000 for the base unit and another $5 to $8K for them to build Hallett if they haven't already done so, and you will have just what you were looking for :shock:

I believe it was Rfactor that I found and downloaded Hallett. Of course, I have never been to Hallett, so I do not know how realistic it was. I will try to find it later tonight. It was nothing fancy. I think the track was supposed to be pretty accurate, but none of the background was on there.

Of the games/sims I have tried, I liked LFS (live for speed) the best. I only tried it a few times though.

Again, the graphics may not look great because only the track layout has been completed. It may be good enough to learn some of the track though.

Someone that has been to Hallett needs to let us know how accurate this is.

My guess is that Force Dynamics rig wont work too well if you want to drive Indy or Daytona :lol:

Jay-thanks for the Rfactor link. Trying to figure it out and may download the sample to see how to get started and what is required. I have a laptop at home so I don't know if it will work and of course would need a steering wheel.
