View Full Version : Who is going to run CMC and who is going to run CMC-2 in 09?

Michael and I were talking this weekend and we both want to run in whatever class that has the most cars. I would like to take a pole to see what the rest of you are thinking about running next year? I assume since the change is now 2011 that we (Fox owners) can run CMC-2 next year? I don't care either way but I do want to run with the largest group. Maybe we can make this thread the official poll on the subject?

I was under the impression that everything was pushed back. From the CMC board

2009 A Testing Year
2010 A nice merging year
2011 Back to one class

So the 5.0 cars still have to stay in CMC... that's the way I read it anyways.

CMC-2 for now. my racing will be very limited in '09. i will be at all the events.

Ok, I fail at reading. So the 5.0 cars will be allowed in CMC-2, but the updates (motor) won't be defined until 2010. So you'll be running WAY down on power compared to a -2 car unless you are one of the test mules.

thats pretty much it.

I was about to ask the exact same question.

I am really on the fence about what to do.

I have a set of 17's and I have C5 brakes that I could easily switch too, but I am like Jerry and would prefer to run in the largest run group.

However, I think these future rules are going to split the cars sooner than expected.

Still riding the fence at this point though....

5.0L cars are already permitted in CMC-2 as test mules, but, you pointed out the big glaring problem...being WAYYYY down on power.

For the Thunderhill event 2 weekends ago, I ran CMC-2, and realized how far down I was. With a few changes, and a fresh dyno performed at the track (243rwhp/287rwtq), I still didn't stand a chance against the fast CMC-2 drivers.

Much work to do in the off season.....

I don't know what Al Fernandez' car was making this weekend in "CMC-2" mode, but it was damn fast in a straight line.

He could definitely pull my CMC2 compliant car down the straights and launch it off the corners as well.

He also had a nose weight advantage ... :P

On the fence here. Not sure how much or in what class I will be racing in at this point. I do intend to run as many events as possible again. Come to think of it.... maybe I run whatever class JB is in. Revenge!!! :D

Did Al pull his restrictor this weekend? I thought he was just running in CMC trim.
"Inevitablity" I think is the word I am looking for. So you might as well stick the Ecam and shorties in and run CMC-2.

Yes.. See Gary's video as he blast past me on the straight.

Alien

Yes, Al pulled it.

Here's the thing, the cam and headers won't be legal next year. The only reason I see a 5.0 car running -2 is if they have a set of 9"+ wheels or brake setup they want to use or are freakishly fast and want more competition (Jeffs)

It'ld be a shame and a waste of money to throw in an E-cam or buy a set of headers just in case the '10 rules don't allow that particular set of headers or whatever.

The LT1 cars are the only ones I see on the fence, but that shouldn't be any different than deciding in '08 to run CMC or CMC2

I would have no problem running CMC2 next year. If the thought is that the Fox cars will run headers and a cam, I want to be able to put it in and not have to worry about changing it again the next year.

If the thought is that the Fox cars will run headers and a cam,
If they had the combos to reach the limits, they wouldn't be delaying the merge for another year :)

i'll likey stay CMC till after the enduro. i think CMC-2 has to run a different class, and its w/AI cars.

Why couldn't we could all run CMC compliant cars in AI-X and not mess up AI and Toyo buck from MFW, C/M, DD, Dr. F., LIIR, etc.

Just a thought; gonna look weird on the results sheet.

AIX doesnt have Toyo Bucks. its an open tire class.

I'm going to run what I brung in whatever class it fits into. This will most likley be CMC as the budget won't allow engine mods over the off season. I'll just try to hang with the Jeffs or run for fun with whoever is close by.

Ya know....I've been tellin' Glenn for 3 years.....

Seriously, CMC is barely 3 seconds off pace with AI. I would be interested to see what power Al was making and what his lap times were compared to AI. I think with bigger brakes, 17's and some power, you guys aren't far off from running with the AI pack....even without aero. Granted, I was working my ass off trying for another .5 second all weekend, so maybe 3 or 4 seconds is a bigger gap than I think...

I think Al needs to post some spreadsheets from all the data we collected this weekend from all the cars for comparison. I bet the corner speeds aren't as differing as you would think...

Earth calling Al!!!

I'll definetly be in CMC next year. 2010 is when I see the numbers swing over to CMC2.

Maybe I'll put the restrictor plate back in and ... 2 seems to be getting crowded. Some of those declaring 2 scare me.

I dont know MFW, gaining time on a track is exponentially more difficult and expensive. I think that four second gap between JB and your times is huge. FYI my best time was 2:04.8...not even as fast as a Fox coupe!!

Running as a "test mule" is a not a big deal...its not requiring anything other than discussing with the directors the parts you plan to use to reach the 260/310 numbers. If we choose a part that ends up not being on the short list (two piece timing chain covers come to mind) it will be grandfathered for the test mule. Nothing to lose.

but that still gives you track record in CMC2

He told me that was "test mule trim" for rules consideration and will be grandfathered in like that.

Lawyers ... satan ... series directors ... all from the same mold.

No offense intended to the fine lawyers who are members of this board. There are exceptions in the lawyer community ...

Since the rules aren't changing much for a couple of years... What is most people deciding to do next year?

I am still riding the fence about what to do for 2009.

I am kind of leaning to stay in CMC, but I might miss some races this next year due to work scheduling....so I kind of keep going back and forth between just racing CMC2.

So far my race schedule is clear though.

Since Mosty is in CMC, I'll run the Duece... he scares me.

Really though, that's the beauty of the 4th gen. I'll run where it seems to make sense. If we need cars for Toyo bucks, I may be persuaded to run in 2... of course, then there's that Warren guy to look out for.

He already said something like:

...Just you wait, Turn 1, Lap 1.... mwuuhhahahahahah....

I'm thinking a 331 or 347 and running CMC-2.

I am going to check out the old mill and see if it has a chance to make another year. That will make up my mind what direction to go.
