A question about helmets...

Mine expires for 2010...any idea when the new cert units would be out? and is my helmet good next year or does it expire 12/09?

SA2000 helmets will not be allowed in the 2010 year. just prior to 2010, you see the new rating.

That is what I was curious about... I don't want to have to buy a 2005 helmet if 2010 doesn't come out until mid year 2010.

But as long as the 2010 come out this year, then that is fine.

Using the past as a reference... The specifications for the new helmet regulations will be late, the new helmets will be available in the market place even later, and the sanctioning body will adjust the requirements to accomodate. Could be different this time but I doubt it...

As an aside, when the new helmets do come out, there will be good sales on the old helmets but not really at a discount large enough to cover the fact that the old helmets will only be good for "half" as long.

Contact Dell and see if there will be any trackside support at the event. Many times PST or others are there and you could request that they bring an assortment of what you're looking for to the event.

Also, I don't think SVTOA events follow competition rules for helmets...as such, an SA95 may be OK. (I've got one of them and will have it with me.)

Check the entry packet for the helmet reqmts.

I have yet to see them even check the helmet at an SVTOA event....

I will have a spare M2000 helmet in the truck with me, size large.

Track Guys state S2000 minimum. I'll bring a couple of s95's and I bet they won't check.

That should work.....just take note and do NOT borrow a helmet from a guy in a SHO named Murphy. He was the one that loaned his helmet to a guy that puked in it!

As the new facilities maintenance man a TWS I will be there... I have 4 helmets to choose from... A Bell open face from Drivers edge is my favorite... what is the spec for this event... I can bring all 4 and he can try them all before deciding on what to purchase for future events... I see a new father/son race team in the future....

Most manufacturers are probably going to start making their helmets available in the fall - the 2010 standard has been available for several years (since 2007) already but the manufacturers want to get all the revenue from the 2005 lines as they can so Sept/Oct is probably the earliest you will see them. Also, since the testing is different in this standard and specifically Snell has adopted principles that ISO and others have been promoting around head sizes, its possible that manufacturers will test the water a bit with only a few models this year. The testing allows for less rigid shells for smaller heads now which will mean lighter helmets but this is something new for manufacturers to deal with (although most have advocted for it for a decade).

Rob, they have loaners available at the track as well as head booties.

Todd, Matt, they will check all helmets. I have done tech plenty of times and failed many SA95 helmets. Hell, either one of you could be doing tech sat am.

Not that I am aware of...knowing they are short on instructors tells me we might be busy earning our track time this year.

When are you headed down and who else is coming? Either of the Dave's coming?
