My receptionist ask him when he came in if he had an appointment.....He said "I don't NEED an appointment. I hate these SOB's that are supposed to work for us. Times are not hard enough right now being off 50% from last year at this time. I really need him showing up now.

Sorry to hear, Jerry and hope it goes well.
You probably should get off the computer and start showing him around the place.

If it makes you feel any better, I just had a contraband search in my office. Security shows up with a canine team and sniffs/searches for any contraband whatsoever (guns, weapons, drugs, alcohol, etc).

Normally I would help coordinate & escort them around but this time they wanted to surprise me.

Nothing like an OSHA inspector, but still sucks. Hope you pass like I did.

Must have been the headlight that tipped them off. :D :D :D

Yeah...I think I'm gettin' some of the Gary Hood JuJu.

Seems like I've had law enforcement pull me over every 48 hours since Friday nite.

Friday - Headlight, front license plate, rear license plate, trailer license plate, trailer running lights. (Written warning) :?

Sunday - 56 in a 45 (Verbal warning after which he commented "This is one of those old Lightnings, huh, very cool...where you heading?" ....ummmm Texas World Speedway!

Tuesday - Contraband search. (Open all your drawers and step out of the office. Rusty the Golden Retreiver is going to nose thru all your belongings. If he alerts on something and sits, you're fired.)

Think I'll just stay home on Thursday....

Well Jerry....it's been 2 hours.
Did he find anything?
You buying him lunch?

ShadowBolt

He just left. Two hours of listening to this windbag. The only thing he did not like was the press brakes not having light curtains on them. We don't have to do that in Texas so he can pound sand. We pay a safety company big bucks to keep us on the up and up and it looks like they did their job.

Whew!

Good thing they can't do that to me at my office. With my 45 cal. disgruntled ex employee pistola and the hash I supply to the Toyo guys I would have been in trouble.

this doesn't surprise me for some reason. I don't really enjoy the sight of OSHA either, but we play a proactive role and have them join our National Safety guys when they come onsite.

When I worked for a drywall contractor about 6 years ago, I was visiting a project in Houston to check up on my team and a damn OSHA prick shows up on site. He saw the Owner's signage vendor walking around on a low canopy without being tied off decided to do a focused inspection of the site. I immediately collected my team, told them to box up and go home for the rest of the day. This was 10am. ALL the other subs kept working. We sat their for 4 hours WAITING For all the other contractor's Project Managers to show up and THEN started the inspection. EVERY contractor got hit for faulty ladders, damaged cords, improperly grounded hand tools, no harness for working at the top of platforms and the list went on. There were 9 subcontractors on site that day including my team. 8 of them walked away with fines ranging from $500 to $10k. I got nothing. I was so damn happy to get through it scott free, however, it did take nearly 8 hours to get through it. The stupid part was the stuff that got fined happens on EVERY jobsite known to man all the time. Really just a bunch of BS really.

Glad you survived Jerry. Those compliance vendors seem like a waste of money but times like these make it all worth while!

You need to learn how to get along better with your boss.

Nothin' to do with my boss, but just learned our plant will have OSHA auditors here the entire week of the 27th.
Fun, Fun, Fun until your daddy takes the T-bird away.

And here I thought weapons, alcohol, and drugs we're part of the standard toolkit for HR...

No it's lying, cheating and stealing ...

Weapons, alcohol and drugs are for the rank and file after HR gets finished.

Food for thought....

Modern analysis emphasizes that human beings are not "commodities" or "resources", but are creative and social beings in a productive enterprise. The 2000 revision of ISO 9001 in contrast requires to identify the processes, their sequence and interaction, and to define and communicate responsibilities and authorities.

The debate regarding "human resources" versus human capital thus in many ways echoes the debate regarding natural resources versus natural capital.

An extreme version of this view is that historical inequities such as African slavery must be compensated by current developed nations, which benefited from stolen "human resources" as they were developing. This is an extremely controversial view, but it echoes the general theme of converting human capital to "human resources" and thus greatly diminishing its value to the host society, i.e. "Africa", as it is put to narrow imitative use as "labor" in the using society.
