45. The birth of a legend
In 1961, Lee Iacocca, vice president and general manager of Ford Division, had a vision. His vision was a car that would seat four people, have bucket seats, a floor mounted shifter, be no more than 180 inches long, weigh less than 2500 pounds, and sell for less than $2500.00. Out of this vision, the Ford Mustang was born.

wish they still weighed this much...

and costed this much too

...another cool thing for us Ford guys is that pg 30 of the latest 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords (June 2009) magazine states Shelby will re-produce the Shelby Cobra R.

"In 1965, my team built 37 small-block, R-model, race-only versions of the Shelby GT350 Mustang that kicked tails on circuits worldwide.", said Carrol Shelby.

The article went on to say...
"Continuing the retro-modern theme, the new R-model will be legal in NASA's all-out American Iron Extreme class, so it can compete for another championship. Likewise, only 37 will be built. For more info, check out www.shelbyautos.com.

(It's not released there yet...still under wraps.)

Largest I have personally seen was 434 cubes. However, I think it's doable, but it has to be done in an aluminum block with BIG liners.

Might scrounge around on Turbomustangs.com and see if one of the big time drag cars could point you in the right direction.

I know it's doable, but is in no way whatsoever cheap.

Any reason why you ask?!

Any reason why you ask?!

No reason in particular. Just heard it on one of the shows on Speed.

Just seemed like a lot of cubes from a SBF ...

I don't see how it would be possible to get a 460 out of a 351SBF. 427 is the largest stroker kit avail and 408 is the most popular. I would never run a 427 (351block) or 347 (302block) since the wrist pin intersects the oil ring land. 427 is just crazy and 460 is stupefying.

That wrist pin in the ring land is "old school". There are kits now that have fixed that with a uber custom piston.

Good to know, but still doesn't address the issue with rod to cylinder wall clearance though. I just don't see it happening in an "off the shelf" kit.

NOT off the shelf for sure and probably why the 331 is much more popular so you can get some rpm with it. The REALLY big cube windsors are not cheap. The guy with the motor I have seen easily has 10k in the shortblock which was used and has rods he can only run for like 100 passes or something like that...Pretty crazy when you are making 2100hp!!!
