Looking to rent an RV for a 10 day trip to Maine this summer.

Its more expensive than flying, but we are doing it for the experience.

2,000 miles each way. Yes I am smoking crack.

Any one have any suggestions advice?

There are several rental places around Dallas .

For a long trip I would consider fuel economy  , water and waste storage tank capacity, ease of drive, power, interior noise, and interior space. I think a Class A diesel like Jerry's and Al's would be the way to go for all of the above reasons.

Also look into roadside assistance progams and their coverages along your anticipated route. Good Sams club, AAA, etc.

Sunshare RV
Class A motorhomes
Negotiable daily rates (depending on age of MH)
All inclusive daily price...no hidden mileage fees or generator fees etc.

I rented one for the inaugural Nationals...bit pricey, but worth it for Rockstar accomodations.

You willl want a rig with air ride. Very few gas coaches have it. Air ride makes the ride smooth and you don't get pushed all over the road. Most of the time I drive my new to me MH with just thumb and fore finger. On other coaches I have owned without air ride a windy day can be hard work.

I think I paid $230/day for the diesel pusher with all the bells & whistles a few years ago.

Yes, I took it to Motorhome Specialist in Alvarado. They sold it in a week. I have purchased two used units from them. Great people to deal with.

I get $200.00 or $500.00 (I can't remember) if they tell him I sent them. I will give your mom and dad back the money if they purchase one there. Donnie is the owner.

Diesel pusher is the way to go. Make sure you know the details of the roadside assistance program. Your AAA account can be upgraded to include RV service for the time you'll need it.

It's the journey, not the destination.

Chris - it sounds like a great thing to do with the family. Have fun.

Al, I have never had anything like AAA in the 28 years I have been a RV owner but maybe I've just been lucky. The Good Sam plan is VERY good from what I have read and heard from others.

Well...turned out I needed it last weekend. We were out at a campground and the door handle broke around 9pm. All the windows are locked and no way to open the door!

Called AAA, they said it couldnt be slim jimmed and would have to send out a locksmith. An hour later a locksmith came out and got us in. No paperwork, no out of pocket cost. :D

I love the fact that the wikipedia can be used to learn how to commit crime! Anyway, this wouldnt have helped. In order to actuate the two door strickers, the handle physically has to move. All the lock does is allow the handle to move or not by moving a sear in or out of the way (kind of like your typical tool box lock). The connection between the handle and the door pins is what broke. Locking/unlocking with the key does nothing at that point. The locksmith drilled out the plate around the handle and pushed on the mechanism with a screwdriver.
