On my way to Houston Friday afternoon, leaving SA, heading on I-10, truck has a barely noticeable vibration. "Strange", me thinks. Thought nothing of it, but as I went further, the vibration got worse. I pulled over at the next exit (which thankfully happened to be a Texas rest area), and found my trailer tire as it's shown below. YIKES! :( Thankfully it didn't blow up on me!

Tire is a load range C trailer tire, on a 18' open car hauler. It was the driver's side front tire, so I'm assuming it caught something on the road.

The lovely bubble makes it almost egg shaped at the top. Amazing it didn't shake the car right off the trailer!
:?

So wtf makes it expand and bubble out and wave like that? It had 48psi in it (when cold, when I picked it up from storage) and only had about 54 in it when I took it off the trailer.

trailer tires are bad about belt seperation cuz they sit for long periods of time in one spot especially if you are like me a park in the yard... I never have always had to replace trailer tires because of seperation, rot or highway damage... never wore out a set...

Interesting.

Well this was one of the "oldest" of the trailer tires, and yes, it does just sit in it's parking spot at a storage lot in town.

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about Carlisle trailer tires? The size I have is 205/75 15, and it seems most companies make them in LRC only. Goodyear's Marathon is a LRC. Carlisle makes a LRD, which is why I ask.

I've had two trailer tires go egg shaped on me (and one that I blew up when I caught a curb really hard! ) and both of mine were Goodyears. I'm not sure the name brand gets you much in this area.

I just use a decent tire and not a specialty trailer tire and have had better luck so far.

The set on my trailer now have been on there for about 6 years and still look and work good.

With trailer tires...it seemed I would blow out at least one a year.

Cord separation on old tires. I found an exact bubble on my oldest tire when I got home from TWS. Mine have all been replaced recently for one reason or another. Essentially for free as I always get the lifetime deal at Discount tires. Also make sure you are inflating to the max load pressure when cold. FMR

same here... for some reason when you say "trailer tire" the price seems to be higher... I get the medium priced "car" tire from discount with road hazard and keep getting them replaced fo free...

I'm a huge fan of the Goodyear Marathons. One of the few speed rated trailer tires.

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

JB, thanks for the link. I'll check those guys out.

I've heard recommendations for the Marathon from lots of people over the years.

I'll see what I can find.

Jason is at the Discount in Conroe... what size(s)... he may have to order them they don't stock many trailer tires... I think the employee discount is 10%... he might be able to get your old one replaced for just the cost of a road hazard waranty
