Back, long, long ago... It's amazing to see those who are still around. Who's changed paint schemes. Who isn't in the pictures, but are major players now... amazing group both then and now.

I was thinking the same thing about both Glenn's and Mitch's. In fact the most of the cars looked so clean.

Who owned the silver number 50 Mustang? I think that guy was running the Drivers Edge and left for CMC but when we came racing he was already gone.

If that was Glenn's 3rd weekend, then my car was still wadded up after its first track event. Glenn recovered a lot faster than I did.

I'm not joking. There was a guy that ran with TDE (silver mustang just like MFW"S). Between DE's he started doing CMC racing. He was one of the slowest guys at TDE so Jay and I thought if he can do it we can do it. We thought we would run into him (not like Al does) when we stepped up to run with NASA but no one remembers him. His dad was always with him. I would say it was about a year or two tops prior to us joining.

Jerry, I did a Driver's edge event in 05' and went from Green to Red in one weekend. Daron was my first instructor....been a lot of fun racing against him over the years. there was a guy who had a car like mine that used to autoX with me...don't know whatever happened to him.

That was the last "street" duty my car ever saw. I was still driving it on the street then and it only had 21k miles on it. 2 months later, I went after it with a sawzall and welder! I want to say that was the weekend I gave marshall a ride and had the camera pointed backwards...?

Considering how many cars in those photos AREN'T racing with us now, imagine how large the field would be if we got them all to return! WOW!!!

good post marshall!!!

Who owns the 68 Camaro?
Michael Tomlin. He was building a CMC car several years ago, but we haven't heard much from him. He owns/runs a powdercoating shop (IIRC) here in the DFW metroplex.

My last conversation with Mike Tomlin was about a year or so ago. He got divorced, and that, for some strange reason, put his whole racing agenda on hold.

He bought an 85 Capri that was a former A/S car that needed a metric shit ton of work.....I warned him not to buy the damn thing. The entire cage had to be replaced, which led to a complete rebuild.....which may have led to his divorce. j/k ;)

I really hope Mike is able to come out and race with you guys some day soon. Love his 1st Gen Mullet-mobile.

I was reluctant to do so...but Daron threw me out there and said "get to it"... He may have just wanted out of the car!!! LOL!!!

Rob,

I did not know about your old incident. For us newbie folks, what happened? Is this the car that is now the flag car?

Yep, Glenn was in the same crash. He did an amazing job of recovery and made it to the track the next day. I was not as lucky.

This happened during a licensing school for NASA at Cresson. My partner at the time was getting his license in our/my car and it was the first day on the track. At the end of the day, they held a mock race with all these newbie drivers. I was not at the track at the time of the crash.

From what I understand, the group was coming out of Big Bend, a Factory Five Cobra lost it and went off track to driver's left. Instead of staying out there and collecting the car, he corrected to come back on track and shot across the track in front of a bunch of cars. I'm still not clear when Glenn's car got hit, but the Cobra came across the front of my Mustang from left to right, smearing the front of my car and turning it clockwise and then a Spec Miata drilled the passenger door.

I don't think NASA does the mock races anymore.

The Texas Flag theme came after the junkyard theme you see below.

i remember the details quite clearly, even after 5 years. it was also my first day on track w/ this car.
the offending driver is a "well known" driver in Group 7.
Rob left out the part where he went off at Big Bend on driver right, then back across to driver left, then back on track and collected 3 other cars. i got off easy. the SPEC Miata (Blake?) didnt take long to get back, and Rob got F'ed.
i remember seeing him go across from right to left and thinking "ok, he's clear", then the two cars to my left and right pealed off to there respective sides as he came back on track and i had no place to go. i think my contact put him into Rob or the Miata. i didnt see that part.
the Cobra was crunched bigtime. if he would have been hit on the drivers side, he would have been killed. the car was not up to NASA CCR cage requirements, and the driver was not ready for racing. some of out NASA folks got in some really hot water over this.
