You Dallas Camaro guys with a NASA racing resume should contact him and see what it would take to get on board. I've said it many times...our NASA hard chargers would excel in pro-racing given the right opportunities!!!

I saw his name on the time sheets from the local kart track (Katy) a couple of weeks back.

You'd make a great race strategist/crew chief, Glenn!
(Unless you were applying for the website moderator position... )

2.5 hours left for Glenn's day in the barrel!!!

Yeah, that was posted on the AI national site a few weeks back.

Brian said "if you have any questions, fire away...."

All I could come up with was "why?".....

$40k for the car and now another $40k to build it.....why?

If you have the $$$$$$$ the answer is........cause you can! Amazed at how much people will pay to have the "first on the block" of something.

Here's the build sheet on the car....I don't see why all the rest of us don't just go out and get one.

Probably because at that price I couldn't live in it!

I'm taking this rather seriously, and am in the process of lining up references and potential sponsors to try and land the 4th seat. Any and all help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

According to the Grand Am ride board, it's a funded seat only.

2010 Camaro Seat(s) Available: VIR and beyond.
Posted: 07-14-2009, 10:09 AM EST

Seats for funded drivers available for one-off VIR race at the end of the season. Seats for the complete 2010 season also available. Momentum Race Group will taking delivery of at least 2 Riley built 2010 Camaros in September, with testing to take place before VIR. Opportunities for this testing are available also, with drivers signed up for VIR getting first right of refusal.

Does anyone know what "funded" means in order of magnitude numbers?

MikeP99Z

I don't have a reply yet ,but it's likely 10-15k or so.

Al Fernandez

10-15k for a season or for one race?

MikeP99Z

per race, plus insurance for crash damage. I haven't received a reply, but this type of fee is typical last time i checked.

So 10k gets you the ability to share the car for a race all inclusive unless you wreck, in which case you have to pay for the damages?

gPing rate for a rehagen ride was 20 to 25k to share a car for the weekend...arrive and drive. Ten to fifteen would be cheap as shit!!!

"Oil Executives".

Have you seen the price of oil and gas going up and up in the second worse economy in our history? Supply and demand huh. Al can afford it. I don't know though if you have to pay for damage done to the car..................

JJ

Just kidding Al.

Thank you for your inquire. The cost is $15,000 per seat (3 total drivers) for the 6 hour VIR event to close out the 2009 season. This would of course not include crash damage. We will also be testing the car(s) prior at minimal cost for the drivers that are signed up for this event. This will allow us to ensure that the car gets plenty of mileage before its first official event. We plan to include all drivers at Riley supported initial test also. I want to make sure that everybody gets as much seat time as possible. In addition we will be hiring an outside team to run the cars at this one event, strictly to ensure it runs smoothly given the somewhat compressed time line. We expect delivery of the cars early September.

We several groups interested in the complete car for the year. The cost for this would be approximately $350,000 for the race season. Obviously if available a single seat would be available for approximately half of that figure. We also have several professional drivers that are eager to get into the seat of the Camaro and are offering reduced rates for their assistance, such as Jeff Altenburg.

/rant on

Why did I expect anything different than a canned response? And one that isn't even that well written. They didn't even address any of the other questions in my email.

Simply fishing for a person with a stack of cash.

I'd do better trying to find a few serious sponsors (not real likely in this economy), buying the $130k car (not that I even have a job at the moment), and running a team with an AICMC Texas crew. Some of y'alls preparation for a normal race weekend is better than some of the Grand Am teams. Too bad all the races are a hell of a haul.

/rant off.

Anyone have a stack of cash?

Anyone have a stack of cash?

You can tell that team doesn't have their shit together... The Rehegan responses are MUCH better.

As for the stack of cash... I don't....but if my father hits one of these energy deals he has been chasing... we need to find a way to "dispose" of some income. We can talk then. Until then, I am rubbing my nickels together in hopes for the racing fairy to show up with a stack of opportunities.

Is that normal for the lead driver to be the "Executive VP" of the team?

I'll be curious to see how they do and if the team gets to the track.

Todd Covini

Look on their website....The September testing is at MSR Cresson.
See if you can cut a deal where fastest lap time during the day gets the seat for free....then let's see some faces drop. You could beat Altenburg at MSRC, Mike!!!

Cash & reputation are one thing....but lap times trump all in racing!!!

Hmmm...what if AI#8 just "happened" to be testing the same day?!?!?! Lead follow....photo ops....frustrated 2010 drivers....magazine story...Alamo beats Riley....I can hear the buzz a mile away....need to stay in front of this one, Mike.

I wonder if the testing will be on a member day, or if they are going to rent the entire track???

Might just need to persuade Michael and Matt to let me take the Lemon out there and show them what a 1:36 looks like with 80HP...

I think 80 hp is optimistic!!!

Better yet, I need to take the AI car down there and show them what a 20.xxx looks like! ;)

Made some progress tonight on the new splitter! Goal is about 12lbs lighter than the old one and a VERY clean silouette! Beware!!!!
