Driving sims

I'm curious what you guys are using for your driving simulators. What wheel pedal combo, what type of computer, what software, etc etc etc...
I hear about them from time to time, just wanting to get something going here in El Paso, I'm getting bored...

iracing.com - PERIOD!!!

By far the best in a long time. Kind of pricey, but you get what you pay for. I run a Logitec G25 setup, I reworked the pedals to work better.

I started running R-Factor again a couple of weeks back because they have the MMP outer loop. Man, it has been a couple of years since I raced that sim, and it blows after racing iracing.

As far as hardware, check on Grassroots Motorsports website, they had a write a few months back and they had some good tips on computer setup.

I'm liking the setup in this post (http://www.forums.corner-carvers.com/showpost.php?p=773890&postcount=700), not sure if you need to be a member to see the image.

I hope that neurokinetic at C-C doesn't mind, but here is the setup:

Jeremiah, if you ain't got Miller down by now...you are trying too hard.

That track is pretty simple...it's just a matter of picking up the braking points for T1 and a couple of the 2nd gear corners after fast and faster.

It looks like a really easy track to pick up quick.

You guys are making things really complicated. :lol:

Get some HD video from the track that you want to run.

Setup the monitor on the cowl on the driver's side of "your" actual race car.

Either jack up the front end enough to move the front wheels or use alignment plates.

Turn up the sound.

Put a fan on ya

I did this for NPR and Hallett a long time ago. It was as if I'd been running that track for years when I got there. I will try to dig up the pics.

Yeah, yeah, you don't have control of what's going on, but you can practice a lot on different markers - especially if you can find video from similar cars and/or similar lap times and configuration.

EV has a great idea there. Will have to try this for Hallet for sure (if/when we go back there).

I've been using GTR2 for over a year now (cheap on Amazon.com) and a logitech force feedback wheel/pedal combo. This is an older sim but has great car dynamics, adjustability, and feedback. For something on the cheap, it has right feel. The track selection is good too, mostly international tracks but there are websites that host downloads for upgrading to custom tracks. You can download other cars as well. Getting the right 'posture' for driving can be somewhat of a challenge. My current setup utilizes my PC input on the 61" DLP and a folding table that is brought up to the edge of the TV. I use some non-slip drawer liner on the floor to keep the pedals from moving away and crank up the surround sound for good effects.
