View Full Version : A Texas Bonded Title

Anyone know anything about them?

I'm currently looking at my AI car.

The owner has a bonded title, which basically means the original title was either lost, stolen or screwed up. The owner has the original title where the owner prior to him screwed up and signed the wrong lines when it was received.

So the path of least resistance was a bonded title.

That was in October of 08. So there is still about 18 months on the claim period. The current owner has a certified letter from the previous stating the screw up and makes no claim to the car.

I realize it's not worth the paper it's written on, but it does show a good faith paper trail.

Other than that, the car is near perfect ... and cheap!

Thoughts?

I don't know a lot about this type of stuff but couldn't the current owner just go to the tax office w/ the original title and certified letter from previous owner and get a clean title?

That process would have taken up to 120 days and all via mail.
A bonded title is just a couple days and can be done at a local tax office.

My guess is that the car needed registration and inspection, neither of which could be done without a title.

After some research, the surety bond is only required for the new owner and for a 3 year period. Any subsequent owner does not require a bond.

Sounds like I would be assuming all the risk ...

I can't believe that you are actually going to cage and race a Lincoln LS V8.

I'm sure you've already read this, but here it is anyways:

hmmm ... does that mean I'll have to change my name to Chris "Pimp-Daddy" Lyons?

Once a bonded title is issued, it becomes the negotiable title of ownership, just like an original blue title. A new bonded title doesn't have to be issued each time the vehicle changes hands ... as I understand it.

I was thinking Glenn "My wife won't let me drive the G8 on the track" Landrum, but Lyons works for now - although he no longer has the pimp ride :( mmmm E 6 3

Just curious... are you planning to make your AI car street legal? If not, then there is no reason to pursue a title at all. You have to submit the car for inspection before a title will be issued, which may include appraised value, for which you will have to pay taxes on. So... if it ain't goin' on the street, stop, drop and roll on.

An AI car that is street legal with AC would be quite the ride, don;t you think?

Actually it's a car that is priced right and is current a driver. Thought I might park the SD for a while and enjoy some of that cheap gas ... THEN, make it a race car.

Presumed Value is the operative word in Texas for valuation on an automobile transaction bewteen two non-dealer; that or you can get a certified appraisal.

Looks like the bonded title IS the title, unless and until, suit is filed over ownership and you appear to have the right paper trail for that.

And, the Great State of Texas can impose a penalty for failing to transfer a title.

Not an attorney, but I play on on TV.
