Glenn, James, Nick ... those guys know me well enough to know that I pinch serious pennies. I call it frugal ... wife calls it cheap. Whatever.

Wedding
Flowers ... cost? Damn!
Tables and chairs ... cost? I want to rent, not own.
Tent ... cost? I can rent Bass Hall for that.
Bride costume ... cost? Don't you do your own hair and make-up every day?

Remodel
Schedule ... What's that?
Budget ... What's that?
Need a draw ... How about finishing something first.

Remember ... a wedding is not about the bride ... it's about the mother of the bride.

Wedding is Saturday and I'm foolishly thinking that this train wreck will end.

Thank God I was already divorced when Amber got married... Cost of divorce was far cheaper than the wedding would have been...

should have been an asshole and said "Here is $10,000, make it work and don't let the door knob hit you in the ass on the way out."

Can't recall how many fathers I have heard say they wish they did that over the years.

Only other advice I would give is to find out ALL of the contact info for anyone involved in providing you a service for this wedding and that YOU call them to confirm everything NOW. Women never follow up or make sure things get done because they assume people do what they are told. Had I not been laid off 1 week before my wedding and had I not been involved in final coordination NOTHING would have been done right. Know specifics of times and sequence and make sure every clown you are hiring understands "no success, no fucking payment!" Only when Dad gets involved do they seem to pay attention. they know damn good and well Brides/Moms won't pay too much attention as they will be busy....but if Dad is there smacking people around, shit gets done.

Weddings are the biggest waste of money on earth!!!

Sorry that all sounds negative but a wedding planner/coordinator is really the only way to go if you are a newb at it.

Good luck!

I have to say...This is the one of the many reasons Sam and I got married in Antigua. We signed up for the "weddingmoon" and everything was done. (I am probably different then most brides and I booked everything months in advance and was calling people weekly to make sure everything was on track for the wedding.) Sam didn't have to do anything but show up and sign on the dotted line, and his mother basically took care of the reception when we got back.

Our "stress-free" destination wedding was stressful enough, I don't think I could have handled having something here.

Hang in there Mitch, it will all be over soon!

Buddy of mine was hunting in South Texas with his CPA.. CPA says "you could save alot if you were maried"... Buddy calls his girlfriend to get everything together... He drives back, sheds his camo for a suit, gets married and his back in his stand for the evening hunt... His anniversery date: December 31st

We got married back in 1993....the day before the Dallas Cowboys made to their first Superbowl in years.

We landed in Lake Tahoe for our honeymoon on that Sunday......and it was a mad dash to get to the Casino/Hotel..........so I could watch the Cowboys on the big screen.

I think Kendra's Mom & Dad gave her a $1,000 and said do with it what you can for your wedding. Therefore it was kept really simple...nice and small, with every dollar spent scrutinized closely. Turned out very nice.....and now 17 years laters we are just as married as if we had spent $20k.

Justice of the Peace - $40
Two closest friends as witnesses - dinner
Marrying the perfect woman - priceless
23yrs later - still priceless

Nothing wrong with traditions though.

Blah...

My marriage cost $100.

My divorce cost $500.

The end...

Don't use my marriage as an example though, 2 tours in 3 years will have that effect sometimes.

Ditto

My son-in-law went through the same in his first marriage... he is about to be the father of my twin grandchildren and they are going to deploy him shortly after.... he has already done 3 tours... I don't understand the army...

Truth be told, I got out pretty light. Both my daughter's wedding were under $10K combined.

The combined length of both wedding ceremonies was less than Saturday morning's qualifying session.

We already do. There is no acceptable reason to sit at home.
