Hey Guys,

I have been trying to pull the ATI balancer off my old motor to salvage my timing cover, chain and gears. I've been using a puller from Autozone and the hardened steel bolts are bending. I'm sure it's not the best tool, but seeing the hardened bolts bend tells me I'm in trouble. Any suggestions/ tips/ tricks would be appreciated.

By the way, if I didn't need the timing cover and chain, I would be about ready to resort to the Remington 30-6 using armor piercing hollow point shells... which, as a youth, I found to be quite effective at dismantling motor assemblies.

Thx for the help,

Dave

Are you sure you have the big washer removed?

Yes the big washer is removed. Along with a generous application of PB.

With the bolt and washer removed you should be able to see the end of the crank and the key. Squirt some penetrating oil in there. Make sure the cone on the end of the puller is only contacting the end of the crankshaft. Then, get mad at it. FMR

Thank you Frank! I don't know if it was the penetrating oil or getting mad at it, but the combo sure worked!

Now I'm going to go shoot that balancer!
