View Full Version : 1st Win Award

Daniel Allford

ARC Specialties has created a special award for CMC drivers competing in the Texas Region
1181
The next CMC Driver who wins his or her first race during a Texas Region event will receive the plaque and $300. This is in addition to the traditional soaking in ice water. So drive the wheels off it, collect the plaque and cash the check. Note to AI drivers: it is not too late to come back.

Maybe I'm too new but who are ARC specialties?

Daniel Allford
01-08-2013, 03:53 PM
They build robots for industry. They have a great reputation, and they sponsor the 82 car, but the owner has the reputation as being a bit of an ass.

Dan,
Very nice thing to do. If I ever need a robot to inspect a drill pipe, I'll be giving you a call. :)

Daniel Allford

Aaron;
You are welcome, glad to see the pack at the front get bigger and stronger. It is wild to think that I got a pole, broke the track record, then finshed only 4th, DNF, 4th and 4th! And my track record didnt even last through the race. Dammit that is a tough crowd. THAT is why I go racing.

Four New Winners in 1 weekend!!! 1432

It took a year before we gave our first plaque to Aaron, then 6 more months before Jerry won his first race. Now we are having 4 new winners in a SINGLE weekend. As I signed the checks, I asked myself "Why didn't you limit it to 1 per family?", "Why didn't you exclude Australians?" and "Why are Mustang drivers even eligible?";)

Congratulations to Sam, Jay, Craig and Kevin

Hey Dan, this is a great award and very much appreciated. Rather than excluding Australians we can now consider this an international award in the CMC World Series. It works for baseball...

Thanks Dan! Things like this are why I think this group is the best out there. It's not just about having an award and getting money, but it shows the kind of things this group is willing to do for each other. We have everything from prize money for a first win to everyone chipping to work on someones car to ensure they can get back out on track.

The camaraderie is what attracted me to this series first, the racing, type of car, and cost came later. The first time I was at TWS for a DE I was wondering around the paddock checking out cars and saw at least five people helping someone work on their car in the garages between races. During the course of the weekend I didn't see that with any other group, and that's pretty much when I decided that if I ever got into racing it would be CMC/AI. I think things like that and awards/gestures like Dan's will do more for attracting racers than any rule change ever will.

The award alone is amazing enough. Add to it that there are 4 recipients in a single weekend is down right astounding. When did that ever happen in one of the other classes?
I congratulate all the winners as they surely earned it, and I congratulate Dan for stepping up and offering this award.

We have a new 1st Win Award. Gary Robertson's win in R4 is historic:

Last TWS Race (probably)
First Camaro to win a First Win Award and we have been waiting for over 3 years.
Rain Racing is the race of truth

So Gary, send me you address & ARC Specialties will present you with a First Win Plaque to be hung in a place of honor and a check for $300

Congratulations, if you win in the rain do you get to skip dousing with ice water?

My first win was actually last year R3 at Hallett. Oddly enough, it was also due to rain tires. 30 minutes before R2, it was raining. Dan and I both put on rains. Sitting on grid, sun popped out and by the time the green waved it was bone dry. Combine full treads with some brake fade for good measure, I finished at the tail end. Dan finished near the back also. For R3, I started on the front row, Dan a few rows back. Dan came charging late to try deny me of that $300 check, but I did take the win. He must have really wanted that win, because I never received a First Win Plaque or the check :D I actually had completely forgotten about his generous award/reward. I was just happy to win at my favorite track. I did get the shower tho as Dan distracted me asking about my tonneau cover.
