Does anyone use 5th gear at Houston? The only place I had my 4th gear shift light coming on was after the long straight after the carousel and the long straight before the sweeper going into bustop.

I'm going to be AIX-lite this event since my power to weight is going to be off and I don't feel like a last event dyno just to recertify again in January.

I should be playing with 310/300 and 2825 race weight!... should be fun 8)

I use 5th every now and then on the back straight into bus stop.... I however am running 3.73's....4th just makes me run to 6500 rpm and lift for the last 200 feet which probably kills laptimes...

Bring your AIX beast! It will be good to have you back!

I'm just looking forward to getting back in the car after a 5 month hiatus.

I used 5th on the back straight and the straight after the carousel.
I had a .9 fifth and topped it out in those spots with 3.73

5TH GEAR??? What the hell is that??? maybe that is why my motor is in pieces... 3.73 with 4 speed... on the 6800 limiter, then Amber said she felt a vibration and the car sudenly "jumped" like she ran over something... anybody got some JB Weld???

David,
I have both "JB Weld Original" as well as "JB Kwik". You are welcome to either at anytime. However, I'm not sure if it is up to the task of piecing connecting rods and block sections back together???

5th gear usage is totally up to how the motor/drivetrain are setup. Depending on exit speed, gearing, optimal RPM range will and should determine whether or not 5th gear is necessary.

For example: my 212rwhp + 3.73's + 5100 shift light means that I doubt if I will shift to 5th on the long back straight. For those mega hp/tq cmc cars, I would venture to say that they will probably have to shift or at least adjust the solid lifter valve lash for higher than 6500rpm's. ;)

I'm sure you will get 10/10 different responses since not all setups are the same.

Now Eric... That would not be CMC legal... No one would do that. 8)

Without a tear down rule....who cares?! I would say make it legal because there are few finer sounding things than a well done solid roller cam setup! I had an experimental set on my car with a HUGE cam back in the day and it sounded freaking awesome. I vote to allow it!

I think I know a way for the car to get to AI legal weight

Chris,
And it would probably be 2.5 seconds faster per lap too!

Well, you guys could cut the car in 1/2 and both run AIX....

sounds like the wheels are a turn'n to get Chris some points!
