Checked the race monitor app on my way home last night and at lunch today. Here are my updates-don't know if they are posted anywhere to check??
Yesterday looked like Aaron and Hermman in CMC were around a 2:10 and the rest of the CMC was at 2:15 and slower. Mark Smith looks good in AI at 2:10 followed by Michael Stacy at 2:12. Also looks like Sammy McSpadden which I assume is Aaron's dad is running the spec iron car in AIX was at 2:15.
Looked like the same times during qual today but must have been a caution-Aaron may have a mechanical as he didn't show a lap or maybe one. Another what I think is Texas driver? in AI Alec Udell had the field by 3 seconds in AI, too. In the Miata's I saw Texan Adam Poland maybe a top 5 and Nathan Stacy doing well too. I think there are a set of brother maybe from Texas in the class that are up there, too. Also saw Terry Fair's name.

Good luck to the Texan's! Anyone know of a place to follow please post up. I assume speedcast will be showing the big races this weekend but I don't hold my breath for it.

Aaron McSpadden won CMC-started in the back and still won by over 10 seconds and pretty much bested the rest of the field by 2 seconds a lap. Nice work Aaron-bring that trophy back to it's rightful place in Texas. Looks like Smith and Stacy have a chance for a podium in AI as well. Udell had the field by 3 seconds a lap.

What was really interesting is the makeup of the fields. Out of 6 AIX cars all were Mustangs and in AI out of 13 there were 12 Stangs and a Buick GNX (awesome!)-not a single GM in AI is an atrocity. CMC is well represented in CMC but like the past several years can't compete with the Mustang.

"2013 The Year of the Mustang" I guess I have to change my slogan now as when the rules came out it was the year of the fox-guess I was right about the model. Real sad to see the disparity that NASA has produced in our classes.

Well today was interesting. The stoptech caliper bracket that holds it on the spindle broke at 100mph on the 2nd lap. The bolt is steel and the bracket is aluminum, well that bolt pulled out taking all the threads with it! But we were able to re tap it and fix it. Thank you Jason Massey at illicit Motorsports. The master fixer guy! Started dead last, had to play dodgeball with all the AI guys and CMC guys. Tons of rocks on the track so I had rocks hitting the windshield and got caught in the brakes also making all kinds of weird noises. Crazy day but due to Jason's setup and motor we prevailed! The car was on rails!

I've been reading Ryan Walton's updates and it sounds like NOBODY has put Udell on a dyno yet. Same BS ruining the grid for the final race the last two years they ran there.

Sad thing is I think I remember running 2:08's back in 09 on the old toyos and Lindsay was in the 2:06's... where are all the guys who used to run 3 and 4 years ago?

Mike is right though...why spend the money to fill a field so a cheater can go win the race and look like a star?

I should take my car next year with the boss 302 motor in it claiming it only makes 320rwhp and make an even bigger farce of it all! LOL! Same crap game...different year.

AI#97
09-06-2013, 06:02 PM
correction, I went back to look at previous thread. Most were running 2:10's. I think I ran an 09 close to 08's and Lindsay was in the 06's, Martin was in the 07's.

Mike might be able to chime in about 2010 laptimes....

anyway, maybe it isn't as fishy as I thought but considering the new toyos are "faster" than the old stuff we ran on...Maybe Udell has some old Toyos?! LOL!

LOL! Yeah, I guess there is some latent hostility flowing through my veins!

Great running so far Aaron and good luck tomorrow. I can't wait to hear all of the details from the weekend.
I've never raced Nats but have been to quite a few and always enjoy seeing the tech and dyno that goes on.

Speedcast's schedule says they start at 2:20 PM ET (12:20 PM MT), which according to the NASA schedule I am looking at would be just in time to see the checkered flag for the Group A Championship race...really, no love again?

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why would they go live for an hour of dead track time? Hopefully they are going to tape delay the first hour of activities so they don't have the hour of dead time in their schedule...

They've got conflicting info there. The "Saturday broadcast" says 1:15-4:15 ET, but their featured race and countdown are for 2:20 ET.
Guess we'll find out soon enough...

Well, the Nationals was a great event (wish there would have been more entries), but it was bittersweet. My father had been in hospice care for a couple of weeks and he took a turn for the worse on Friday, I was afraid to answer my phone or check messages until after each race on Fri and Sat. Fortunately I was able to get back in time to say goodbye on Monday and he passed on Tuesday. He is in the ultimate place now and who knows, he might even give me some help in some upcoming races.

On to racing

The dyno situation sucked! The results were all over the place with the same setup and everyone was afraid of being underweight. There were a few DQs during qualifying and qualifying races in several classes. I ended up going with my smallest restrictor at 349hp and 335 torque and I was 180 lbs. overweight. Those numbers were from around 10:00am with temps in the 70s. After the race Saturday with the same setup and hotter temps, I was at 359hp with 80lbs to spare. The second place car only had 10lbs to spare and Alec was 200lbs over because he was afraid of the dyno.

On Friday’s race I continued my really really bad streak of standing starts. I went from 3rd to last in about 3 seconds. I was so slow Aaron had to give me a push in turn 1. I was 3rd place in CMC in T2.

In the final race I was a little slow to get things going, I literally gave Eliot Fisher (who ended up P2) a free pass on the front straight of lap 2. I finally got things together and I was behind Elliot, I knew I was faster, but my lack of racing experience was showing, I just couldn’t figure out how to get around him.

Anyway, enough talk here’s the video

Yah I hate getting all the politics involved. I just handle it my own way on track! The officials saw my video and said he was protecting his line. I almost laughed but decided to say OK. And just beat him on track. The guy in the 57 green 3rd gen was actually more pissed than I was at Kent cause even he thought I was getting blocked horribly!
