Hey guys, I know I haven’t posted in forever, but I have been lurking!

In all seriousness I have been crazy busy on a couple of fronts, both getting up to speed after a promotion at work, and also putting the final finishing touches on my Lloyd Ruby biography. I wanted to share the release that More Front Wing ran on their site on here since a lot of you were aware of the book but hadn’t seen any information on it.

I promise to get out to the track next year!

Announcing the release of Hard Luck Lloyd (http://morefrontwing.com/2013/11/20/announcing-the-release-of-hard-luck-lloyd/)
All commentary (http://morefrontwing.com/category/commentary/all-commentary/), Commentary (http://morefrontwing.com/category/commentary/) — By More Front Wing Staff (http://morefrontwing.com/author/more-front-wing-staff/) on November 20, 2013 10:26 am

We are very excited to announce that Hard Luck Lloyd: The Complete Story of Slow-Talking, Fast-Driving Texan Lloyd Ruby (http://www.racemaker.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=40), written by More Front Wing columnist John Lingle, is now available at Racemaker Press and will ship in time for Christmas!
Hard Luck Lloyd is a display-worthy collection of stories and photographs from Lloyd’s long and varied life and racing career. Over 280 color and black and white photographs are interspersed with interviews from racing greats like Mario Andretti, Al and Bobby Unser, Johnny Rutherford, Parnelli Jones, and Dan Gurney.
“Lloyd Ruby’s career is unfortunately remembered by most for one race and his horrible luck there,” Lingle says. “The one thing that all the drivers I interviewed said about Lloyd was that he was a true wheelman and that his career shouldn’t be judged by one race.
“As I grew up in Lloyd’s hometown of Wichita Falls, I was amazed — and, frankly, stunned — by how little credit Lloyd got for the things he had accomplished in racing, like winning the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, numerous USAC races, and almost 200 midget races! I wanted to tell the complete story of a man that raced and won across four decades in everything from midgets to GT40s and USAC Championship Cars.”
Chief Mechanics Dave Laycock and Mike Devin gave Lingle a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a USAC Championship Car team and also gave their take on why Lloyd seemed so cursed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where he craved victory the most. Lingle also spoke with racing journalists and historians such as Donald Davidson and Robin Miller to help complete his portrait of a man that was loved and respected by his peers in the racing industry.
Hard Luck Lloyd is available now for pre-order at www.racemaker.com (http://www.racemaker.com/) and www.coastal181.com (http://www.coastal181.com/). Fans who place their orders soon will have their books in hand by Christmas as they will begin shipping during the first week of December.
We here at More Front Wing are thrilled to assist with the promotion of Hard Luck Lloyd. Stay tuned over the coming weeks as we publish excerpts, run contests, and more to help spread the word!

Thanks guys! Here are a few of the pictures from the book, of which there are a ton. These are just ones that I purchased copyrights to. There are some much better photos in the book that Racemaker owns the copyright on. It was a different era for sure. Check out the "custom hauler" that Gene White Racing used to tow the Mongoose chassis to Pocono in 1971!13261324132213251323

Looking forward to the book! The 1970 Indy 500 was an amazing display of his talent...and his hard luck :/. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sQ64ArmhHE

Thanks! Al and Bobby Unser both say Lloyd should have won at least 3 Borg-Warner's, and Mario said he was very relieved to see Lloyd drop out in 1969.

Just FYI More Front Wing is going to be running excerpts from Hard Luck Lloyd in the coming weeks leading up to Christmas. I chose four stories that I liked from the book that help to show the kind of guy Lloyd was. Here's the first one, which talks about how Lloyd learned to defend himself running midgets: http://morefrontwing.com/2013/11/25/excerpt-from-hard-luck-lloyd-dont-mess-with-lloyd/
