Jerry and I had a good battle going that race.

Uploading R4 now and will get R1/2 up tonight.

Great drive Kevin. Your car looks very stable, or Jerry's car is really loose. Are you sure Al was not driving the 55?
I bet jerry was tired of you dogging him for 20 minutes.. Good job.

Here is my video of R4. I was already fully locked to the left to make the turn and when Wade ended up in front of me I couldn't get it to turn any further or get stopped in time. Thankfully, that is the slowest part of the track and the only thing hurt is the cars.

Most of my weekend was pretty dull. Had goofy brakes that kept locking up, and not releasing. I drove super slow in R3, just trying not to lock them up. ABS worked for most of R4, and let me have some fun. Pederson is extremely difficult to pass, and made for some real excitement. I pushed Marshall into the grass, while I was focused on getting around Richard, and got my first ever body contact (very minor).

About 4:45 you can see a cone fly up from underneath another car on and nail the front of my car while I was doing 110mph. The "melee" with Wade, John, Jay, and Sean (Brian dodged it) is at around 10:30 into the video. My GoPro battery died about 10 min into the race, but nothing really exciting happened after those incidents.

Will try to get R1&2 up tonight or at least piece together a quick highlight video from the weekend.

I put my videos on Facebook since I took them with my phone. Not sure how to upload them here without a handy dandy app....:-)

Marshall- I also have more pics of your car if you want them. I've got pics of the 98 as well....if you want them- let me know. I don't post carnage pics...but I'm happy to share them with you if you want them.

Interesting weekend, but I had a blast as always. hopefully all of the damage is fixable without breaking the bank.

R3 mostly the same picture for the whole race, I got to watch a good race for the top 2 cars of AI and SI

Ouch... You sure hate to see crunched up cars. I hope all aren't too bad to repair.

BTW.. There was some good runs for several folks over the weekend it looks like. The Jordans, Jander, ... Iron Man Gary and several others and good to see Ross finally hit the track.

Have a favor to ask. Could video posters let us know what kind of camera they are using? I want to get one soon-maybe one of Calders but my wife just sent me a pic of Gopro's at Target for $200. Jim-your video doesn't seem as good as what you have posted in the past? I want something that is easy to operate and post. I'm not going to edit anything.

Procter is right-there is a lot of good racing going on. The whole field has really stepped it up. Trophy girls don't waltz through the entire field in the first 4 turns-takes them more like 4 laps. Good job guys-I need to pick it up just to stay in the middle of the mid pack slackers. The 55 I think has distanced itself to being in between the trophy and slackers while Jander can really turn some hot laps and had fast lap in R3 I think. Watch out for Ben if he ever gets power steering on his car-I don't see how he drives his car with manual steering

You can't beat go pro for the price. The black edition is nice cause it has a remote and can also be controlled from your phone. The ones at target are the older models. They still work great but are not the latest editions.

Working on it...and more.
I will say that if you are actively looking for a camera don't wait on us. We are not 100% sure are even going to market.
I'm still willing to build a one-off but I can't commit to a date at this point beyond saying it will definately be after TWS.
That's a lot different from a currently marketed and supported camera, be it a Go pro, Stealth, etc. You might spend $100-150 more but you won't hurt my feelings by going with an obviously very good product. I've always liked the Steath vs the Go Pro but regardlless, you can always buy one of mine later ;)

Our March test is only going to be able to get us through about half of our base system test cases so not sure how much of the A/V stuff we will even get to.
The plan has been to focus on A/V at TWS including the computer vision stuff (e.g. "follow the action", and more). I really want to do some of the A/V testing at Cresson but with the board re-work I need to get that all sorted first. *Hopefully* I will at least have a couple of the pan/tilt cameras to show off.

I have been very happy with my Drift. It has an LCD, so you can actually see what you are videoing. It has zoom, so you can mount where you want, not where it has to be to get the correct shot. It has green, red, and blue lights for power, record, and charging. None of that ridiculous hard to decipher multiple button press issues that the early GoPros had. I hear GoPros have come a long way, but I also heard Sean having a ton of problems with his at the last race. I'd buy something else. My Drift also has a remote, but it only works to start and stop recording, it will not power up the camera. I normally get Wendi to power it on at the 5 min whistle, and then I start recording halfway through the warm up lap.

My iphone recording was definitely worse than usual. Not sure why.
I bought a wifi backpack for my gopro2, but it didn't work. I intend to link it to Harry's lap timer, and use my phone for a rear-view.
GoPro's are rather finicky. We have a rig that uses 6 of them at work, and every time I've used it, there was always one that was out of sync. When they work, the results are fantastic. Every comparison I've seen always lists the gopro at the top, though sometimes their reasons are odd.

I have the GoPro HD2 - worked perfectly this weekend. I did try to charge it and make sure I started each round with a full battery. Turn it on with 3min to go. Once it's on it's fine.

You have to resist the urge to "push the button again" though. Mine is set for one push to turn it on to video camera, then one push to start recording. Sometimes it's slower than others and you just have to trust the one push.

I got everything disassembled last week and took these photos. The car is scheduled to go on the frame machine early next week. This erratic (Texas) weather is messing up all of the body shop schedules. They can't paint when it is freezing, etc. Both frame rails are bent forward of the strut towers. The driver's side one is much worse, bent both inward and upward.

Early indication is that I will need two new inner fender aprons. I have two options:
http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/LRS-16054APR/86-93-Mustang-Front-Fender-Apron-Pair-With-Factory-Holes
http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/LRS-16054SPR/87-93-Mustang-Front-Fender-Apron-Pair-Completely-Smooth-No-Holes

Same price. Any chance the no-holes version is legal? They are otherwise identical. They would in theory be heavier (bad - on the nose), but also stronger (less swiss cheese - important to regain as much strength as possible)

Thoughts?

A quick question for those who have videos with the data overlay... Do you still have the unaltered raw video or does the overlay get put on when writing to the video file?

For the year end video, I'd really really really really prefer just the raw video.

Dulaney
03-13-2014, 09:17 AM
Gary, perhaps it's just a personal preference, but I really like the data overlay. For example, I find it really interesting to know I was going 60 mph while staring at a car's headlights. I also like knowing where on the track the splice of footage was taken. You're the one making the video, so you get ultimate say....but if it was up to a vote, I'd vote for data. As for your original question, I don't have data-less videos for Houston or Cresson. In the future, I can get them, but it's kindof a PITA, and I have to keep both files.

Data only works if you can read it properly. You were going 59 mph, not 60.

Come on Jim....... ;^)

Wade

I assume (having made the video two years ago) that the data, when shown in 2 to 4 second clips makes the video look inconsistent. Everyone who has data displays it differently, etc, etc, and it is hard to make the "movie" look uniform, and not so much like a bunch of clips strung together. Obviously the data is awesome for analysis, just not the overall. I assumed that you guys took video, and data, and then synched them together later. I guess Gary was asking if he could get pre-synched video. Assuming the video and data come from the same source, already overlaid, that may be more difficult. I used to put the date/time in the bottom corner and Gary asked me to take that out. :-p

Actually that happened during a 4 hour enduro in 2007. It failed about 45 minutes in. We drove for the next 3+ hours on 35-40 minute stints (all we could handle) until the event was over. Finished 5th.

Replaced the pump and rack after that event and haven't had any issues since. I do keep an extra pump and rack with me at the track as a spare.

The steering effort goes thru the roof and slip angles are just guesses on what you actually need to get thru the next corner.
